:x:x CATS! There, I said it, Ohhh Boy! Who loves cats?!?! I do. Who can't help but love CATS? :x:x

I am seeing a great deal of Cat avatars and forum names being used here. So I hope that I can start this off right, and be responsible enough to be a part of the discussion.

That said, just know that I am currently without Cat (catless). Mostly because I am with wife. And as much as I do not really care too much for goofy, slobbering, back yard excavating, noise makers (a.k.a. dog), my wife loves those. So, we cancel each other out of happiness I guess. :-?

I have had 3 my adult life, and I always save them from the humane society. I am a lot like Cats, so I usually get along just great with that special someone that apparently somebody else didn't care for very much.

OREO: 12 years. Because he looked like a giant Oreo cookie. I used to say that he was my "dog" Oreo, because he was fine with most things that cats don't care for like water: if there was a drippy faucet or hose, he would stand there for long periods of time playing with water, getting himself soaked in no time. Our favorite game was in the back yard when I would practice casting hand made wooden plugs across the yard with my fishing pole. I would cast it in to trees or bushes, so I could get used to extracting them (without getting out of the boat). He loved chasing them down, and batting those wooden lures all around.

BISCUIT: 5 years. Because she was all black, with a perfect, little, white dog biscuit on her chin. She was the type that killed anything that moved. Birds, mice (I didn't even know mice were in the neighborhood, or even insects). When you pet her, she would drool uncontrollable. Her favorite toy was chasing a laser pointer around. That game never got old. I lost biscuit one month after moving to a new home. I had a refrigerator repair person over fixing a new fridge, and I had Biscuit out, and not in a room like I should have. Well, somehow the front door got left open, and she ran out at some point. I think she got lost, and didn't really know home, or where home was that well after only a month.

GUPPY: 3 months. Because she was 3 or 4 years old, and looked like the smallest full grown cat I have ever seen. She was a tri-color. Guppy was a normal cat during the day, and at night (or I would soon learn, as soon as I was not around) she would became very afraid and lost. She would begin crying every time I left the room. Followed me absolutely everywhere, and was totally dependent on human company. At night she would howl for sadness, when I would just be in the next room. If I left for work, I'd come home and she would be hiding in some remote recess (like on top of the kitchen cabinets), and in a place not making a sound. Just hiding. I'd have to locate her and tell her everything was going to be OK. After 3 months, I just couldn't change this behaviour. She needed a large family, full of kids. I had to find her another home, and had to let her go to live with a friend from work who had another cat already and a family of 5. That worked a little better for Guppy.

I am still trying to warm my wife up to at least one Cat. I am hopeful.

Yikes! :woohoo: Long stories. I didn't expect to write soo much. But I think that most people here who love Cats, can relate to my Cats, maybe.

Do you have a Cat?:x ! Or have any favorite Cat stories you would like to share?

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair ... must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer". More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time...

Those are some witty replies, for sure!

Well, this is the "off topic" forum, so I thought I would share. And I certainly didn't mean to call out or catch anyone off guard with regards to divulging anything too personal about their pets. I hope it wasn't taken wrong. If so, then I apologize.

I will try to stick to the Kratom related stuff in the future.

Maybe if you have a spare room you can be a foster cat parent and introduce the idea of being cat guardian to your wife that way.
My husband was against pets in general but a tiny kitten with attitude dumped in my back yard 7 years ago, 4 weeks old barely a pound,. two convincing daughters, and SPCA not in-taking because of a ring worm outbreak is why I have my kitty Cooper.
I used to be a dog person until my gray cat with tons of attitude won me over.
This is the general dialogue section and I love general cat talk. Unashamed cat person here.
I recall Catspaw said she has at least 12 cats.
My avatar is indeed my kitty's pink bean toes.

Seriously?! My life was CONSUMED by a transgender cat for 17 yrs (he thought he was a dog trapped in a cat body).

He was named Taboo because my husband at the time said, “Cats are taboo in this house - wait until after we move!”

So Taboo it was. We WERE planning a big retirement move. The cat loved car rides and walks on a leash (he ALSO had no homing device, would take off and go, “Now what?” without a peep coming out his mouth (hard to find with not one meow).

The last 3 yrs of his life, he still required 3 walks a day. But he got a form of Alzheimer’s called Sundowners Syndrome. Got lost in the kitchen at 0130 each night. Sudden HOWLING would alert me to go pick him up and put him back in bed. He’s been gone since 2013. I packed the car and headed out for a divorce as soon as those ashes were ready. I’ve got the ashes to be mixed with mine, along with some whiskers and toenails because I’m creepy that way about cats.

Um. Yeah, we like cats. Kratom is NOT SAFE for cats, BTW.

Hi Nan! I thought I remembered seeing a Cat's paw as an avatar. Now I know who owns that one. A "Foster Cat Parent" never occurred to me. I am going to have to look that up. Actually, now that I think about it, I am not even familiar with foster parent when it comes to people, and I know I've heard this term plenty over the years. So, the Websters definition goes as follows (with small edits):

"a person who acts as parent and guardian for a "Cat" in place of the "Cat"'s natural "human caregiver" but without legally adopting the "Cat""

So, maybe it would be the same as us having the Cat live with us, but with the former owners just having visitation ability to come over and see the Cat some times?

I probably got that all wrong. I'll look more in to it later today. Thank you for the suggestion! It might be something that really works out.

And yes, the Cats that I have known, all definitely have some "attitude". They are individuals and that is part of their charm. Some times that takes some adjusting to for sure.

Cats are also explorers. I was explaining to my wife the other day that we would have to Cat Proof the house, kind of like you do with a child. That brought up all kinds of animated discussion about Glass, Crystal decorations, and / or anything else that could be knocked over, etc. It kind of pushed the Cat plans back a step actually. But, better to know these things up front anyway.

Haha! I guess this is not as unusual as I might have thought. Taboo is a great name, and 17 years is a very long time! Maybe the longest I've ever heard of even.

Haha, 3 walks a day? Not that is the most un-Cat like thing I have definitely ever heard of. I wonder if they had Cat leash laws in your state? I hope not. I can't even imagine how that would go. The last thing most of my Cats ever wanted was anything to do with confinement, being cornered, any kind of leash, or being wrapped up in a bath towel so that taking the occasional medicine (pill, etc) would be manageable, and not some kind of life or death fight.

Wow, 1:30a for the howling at night? That must have been like having a newborn human baby for 3 years. I am not sure how I could handle that. Actually I do know that I can't handle that. I've been through that and it only lasted 3 months, not 3 years. OMG. You have the best husband for having to deal with that, and not have gone crazy, and "took the Cat hunting" some time.

Well it is nice that Taboo will have some company in the afterlife. At least there will be a chance of it anyway. Not many owners are willing to go to such lengths, but why not treat Taboo like another family member, really? That makes sense!

I will probably not share with my wife the fact that the new Cat family member could be a 17-20 year commitment, but at least I know this. The law of averages says I will still be around that long, so that leaves the door open to it still in my book.

Being a foster cat parent you work with a rescue group who either pulls cats from shelters or rescues strays off the streets that have been lost or dumped. They handle most of the medical expenses and usually provide everything you need. Your job is provide shelter for the cat, and take care of its needs until an adopter can be found. You would have to take the cat to the vet if it needed but they usually pay the bills. You might have to take the cat to the local petco or petsmart for adoption events. Basically you help the rescues and shelters with space problems, you take care of the kitty until they find a forever home for it.
