Greetings, All! I am no to this Forum and fairly new to Kratom use. I would appreciate any suggestions for use to alleviate migraines which I get about once every 10-days, which last anywhere from a few hours to longer with residual aftereffects that may last a day or two. On the suggestion of an associate, I am starting with Maeng Da Thai Kratom Capsules (OG Red Vein)--each capsule containing 750mg. Might anyone have any suggestions or experience in using it for diminishing migraines are migraine relief once such a headache starts? Many thanks!

2 Gms is considered a starting dose. Were you planning to take just one 750mg capsule or 3-4 caps?

AND

Are you planning to take the kratom ONLY when a headache appears, or daily?

Dear Bev:

Thank you ever so much for the kindness of your reply.

To answer...

Given that each capsule contains 750mg, how many capsules might you recommend taking if I was to use:

a) Daily (as a preventative)

b) Only at the onset of a migraine

Of course, I understand any information posted here is for suggestion only, and all responsibility is my own.

Thank you once again for your much-appreciated thoughts on this.

You should probably take at least 3 caps for a dose, however, I am not sure, and I have no knowledge of how Kratom is used preventatively for migraines. Hopefully someone else will weigh in on that.

A lot of this is just an experiment ie you start SOMEWHERE and then figure out where to go based on how that worked. It is highly unlikely you will find an effective starting dose the first time BUT at least you have somewhere to start.

There is nothing wrong with starting with 2 Gms at the beginning of a migraine and then after one hour if you need more take one more gram, and see how you respond.(I need 4 Gms for effective pain relief - but everyone is different and I was opiate tolerant when I started)

Just one caveat though. Beginners with Kratom often experience headaches...usually because of lack of water as it will be slightly dehydrating so keep up your fluid intake. Also, slow bowel function can cause headaches too so make sure your bowels are getting extra support in order to be regular as Kratom will definitely slow that down.

Many of the beginner type symptoms with Kratom go away with continued use...at least mine did, but starting at a lower dose and gradually increasing it would be prudent.

It might also be prudent to start by taking some when you are NOT having a headache just to see how you respond. You will never know until you try.

Welcome to the best kratom forum EVAH, Divine Love!

I'm following along to learn. Thankfully, migraines are the one thing I don't have. I hope to learn how you benefit from kratom. BoMalley will make sure you don't exasperate the symptoms. Water, electrolytes, water water! Hope to hear good news. Glad you have a kind associate who helped you find the leaf! Great suggestion!

Hellow & Welcome Divine Love to ILK. >:D

I have Migraines as well. I get one about as often as you do. I take 500 mg Magnesium & 500 mg Riboflavin every day prescribed my by Dr. Also take a Prescription called Topiramte 50 mg twice a day for Prevention of Migraines & it really works. I used to get Migraines about twice a week & now may maybe twice a month I will get them.

Staying Hydrated is very very important when taking Kratom. Be sure & drink a full glass of water with each dose of Kratom because Kratom will really Dehydrate you. I drink as much water as I can. Also Gatorade with Electrolytes to stay Hydrated.

bomalley has given you some great advice.

These Strains are great for Pain as well:
Bentuangie
Red Malay
Red Horn
Red Bali

Most of the reds I have tried have good pain relieving quality.
  • Red Bali
  • Red Vein Thai
  • Red Maeng Da
  • Red Borneo (the best but very sedating)
  • Red Horn
  • Red Plantation

For pain relief I have not had any help from Red Elephant, or Red Kapuas Hulu .. not sure why.

Yellow Sumatra and Bentuangie are also in my rotation as good pain relieving strains.
