In case anyone does not yet get news from the American Kratom Association delivered to your email, their website is www.americankratom.org and this is updated news on OHIO:

Kratom Warriors:

The American Kratom Association lobbyist attended the Ohio Board of Pharmacy meeting this morning in Columbus, Ohio where a discussion of the proposed scheduling of kratom in Ohio took place. The Board of Pharmacy staff presented the materials and research that had been submitted by Dr. Jack Henningfield and AKA's Senior Fellow on Public Policy, C. McClain Haddow, during a face-to-face meeting earlier this month where we defended the safety of kratom. The Board staff also submitted the public comments received in response to the Board of Pharmacy's proposed scheduling of kratom.

The Board of Pharmacy decided not to take any action on kratom in today's meeting. Instead, they have authorized the staff to enter into discussions with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, who themselves had engaged in enforcement actions against kratom dealers in Ohio, and then provide a recommendation on which agency should appropriately take the lead to address the concerns about kratom.

The Board also indicated that they would readdress this issue at a Board of Pharmacy meeting in January 2019.

There has been some considerable confusion among Ohio kratom supporters based on a false report provided by a person affiliated with another advocacy organization claiming they had a lobbyist also working on this issue in Ohio. It is unexplainable why anyone working with that other advocacy organization would have made such a false claim and injected this confusion in the middle of this important deliberation that has potentially significant negative implications for our efforts to protect the legality of kratom in the state of Ohio.

We would ask everyone in the kratom community to rely upon credible information that is provided by properly registered lobbyists who are working in the State of Ohio to do all we can to protect the legality and access by consumers to kratom in that state. In short, consider the source of such false reports.

The AKA will remain vigilant in monitoring every step of this regulatory process in the State of Ohio, and we are reaching out to Ohio state legislators to recruit a sponsor for the Kratom Consumer Protection Act that will properly address the adulterated kratom products that do cause some of the health problems that the FDA is falsely claiming are associated only with the natural botanical kratom, and that are part of the concerns of the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

United, we can win these policy battles, and we pledge to do all we can to accomplish that goal.
