Hi. I'm new here and new to Kratom. It caught my attention when I researched methods to combat my alcohol habit. I'm not a very heavy alcoholic but it's bad enough. Every evening it's 2-3 beers, half a bottle of wine, and anywhere between 1 and 3 shots of hard liquor. I really want to stop or at least reduce this. Several references here and there found by Google mention Kratom for being useful with this.

Does anyone here have any experience with this? Any suggestions as to what strains or mixes may work best, and what method of ingestion? I'm currently trying with Red Vein Borneo, taken as tea. The effect is definitely there. The urge to drink is practically canceled for the first 2 hours after taking the tea. Incidentally, hunger/appetite are also reduced.

Thanks for any advice.

Hmm... i personally dont have a problem with drinking but i have in the past. I use Kratom to help with opiate addiction. But if you are just needing a strain to help relax and unwind in the evening, there are several. Some of the ones i suggest for relaxing are, Green Malay, Green Borneo, Green Elephant, Green or White Papua. :-bd Most whites are energizing so they are not always the best for relaxing for me. but greens and reds seem to relax me.

Note that green malay is one of the longer lasting ones for me, but is a little more subtle in effects than the others for me. :) I hope this helps a little. Good luck with the quiting drinking, if you look through the approved vendor list you can find some sample packs for cheap to try multiple strains for pretty cheap. I think GA Botnicals is having a sale right now, 4 ounces for $20, but there are more as well.

And if you can find some reviews in the forum section some people have reviewed several strains, and mentioned which ones they found more relaxing. But im not sure how to tell you to find them lol. Good luck again, hope Kratom can help you :-bd

Hi! I also have always been a heavy drinker. Recently, I have almost quit drinking with the help of kratom. I just wanted "something" and for me kratom is that "something" but i will caution you to not mix the two, because i did for a while...it was so tempting...BUT with negative result for sure and I knew I had to give something up and between the two...kratom won. Best wishes to you.

Many people have found kratom seems to naturally make them lose excessive interest in alcohol. Some have quit entirely. I wrote an article about it for NaturalNews.com, with many comments from the kratom community: tinyurl.com/zlevsh2

You might find it interesting. I hope so.

Hi LilyRosemary, I also test boundaries. I almost keeled over from 2 sips of a beer after ingesting Kratom. Last time I'll do that! LOL

Kava has been known to aid with alcohol addictions. Something to look into and consider, however, extended periods of kava use can be hard on your liver.

Great Read! Thank for sharing. I have felt the same way about Kratom, and it was refreshing to hear other stories.
