Hey everyone,

I hope all my friends here in our great Kratom Community had a great, fun and safe 2016 New Years! I tried doing some checks on the internet, and went to our AKA website, and I checked on my state, which is Washington State just to be sure and didn't see anything come up, but I still am always concerned for all our other Kratom patients that are being stopped by laws.

So I'm just trying to see who out here in the community might have updates for me on how legal fights are going? Are we still strong? Maybe Paul or some of the older members or anybody with info could let me know would be great. I would greatly appreciate it.

Enjoy the New Years everyone, & I'm happy we are all here & safe to open 2016 to still all be continue members of our great Kratom home.

Take it easy everyone!

Justin, we're in the lull before the storm. Legislative sessions won't begin until some time beginning in the next few months. Florida already has a house AND NOW a Senate bill to ban kratom. Lobbyists are working on it behind closed doors, so there's not much to do at this point.

Alabama is not responding to AKA's queries on the legal basis they claim for seizing kratom products from vendors in at least one county, maybe more. Lobbyists, who stay in touch with the AKA, are working on this. We'll let you know when we know something.

Ohio is another state where the Attorney General's interpretation of an old law has been called into question. This will be worked out, as the year develops.

New Jersey we definitely will have a fight on our hands. A bill has been submitted late last session. When it's time, we'll let AKA members from that state contact their assemblymen and women. This is a familiar case of a doctor who does a lot of pain management and drug rehab business has put the bug into Assemblyman Ron Dancer's ear that kratom is hurting his business and something must be done about it. The usual self-serving BS! Stay tuned.

Kentucky may see a bill submitted. We have a good team there to help us fight legislation, but no bill has been submitted, as of yet.

Georgia may see a bill connected with the suicide of a young man who blamed his addiction to drugs. We may see some action there, but nothing has been submitted yet.

As I recall, Iowa is considering a ban. Not sure where that's at.

The bottom line is, Susan Ash and your state AKA for Kratom FB group will let you know when it's time to write letters, call or -- even better -- make an appointment to visit your district's representative and tell your story, ask for their support based on the many people who are quietly using this botanical for medicinal purposes.

I will typically be writing a blog to alert those who are concerned about their state's proposed bills, so you have time to respond.

The American Kratom Association will be doing a big fundraiser in February with cool new T-shirts, Hoodies, and a few kilos to raffle off to supporters. This will be an opportunity for vendors to get their names before a committed group of activists who don't want to lose kratom. Get Involved to #keepkratomlegal!

Kind of off the original subject.. but back in like.. August.. or maybe it was October-- it doesnt mater.. anywaysy.. a few months ago Dr Phil did a whole thing on a kid who died under the influence of Kratom and Kava? and a wife who is obsessed with Kava tea? I dunno .. I watched it a while back and it made me really think badly about Kratom. Clearly I knew nothing about it at the time- but now I do. I love Dr Phil but that whole thing made me feel like having such awful national exposure really probably hurt the kratom cause a lot.

I'm sure having Dr. Phil talk badly may have hurt kratom, and yet the media is doing the same. They have had clips stating how it is worse than illegal narcotics out there, which couldn't be farther from the truth. We have to stay together and make it know what kratom can actually do for people. Kratom alone changed my life around 100% and helped me legally deal with my back pain.

Hey Paul,

Well once again, thank you very much for taking your own time to write out a nice long and informative post. I just wish they will leave us alone. It really scares me, I'm so serious when I say I don't know what I would do without this herb for my painful fibromyalgia & chronic colitis health issues.

But again thank you very much Paul! Take care!

If you learn the backstory behind those isolated incidents, it puts things in perspective. The young man who killed himself was on two antidepressants that had "black box" suicide warnings right on the package. He came out of the closet to his mother the night before he killed himself and she threw him out of the family home. None of that was mentioned. Kids that age are some of the most suicide-prone. He was using kratom to get over a pre-existing opioid abuse. His mother is a nurse and an alcoholic, so she was not inclined to blame Rx drugs. No, it was that kratom stuff.

The other incident was just Life. Some people tend to abuse anything, rather than deal with their situation directly. So, Dr. Phil found one woman who was abusing kratom rather than confront a browbeating husband. What does that prove about kratom?

How about all the people who abuse jelly donuts, or beer, or prescription drugs (and die, as a result). Kratom is one of the least abuse-prone substances I've encountered. It is an easy habit to kick. So, the person who created the addiction must accept the responsibility to use kratom for their benefit -- and not as a way to run away from their problems.

The real question is: how are we using kratom? Is it improving our life, or is it letting us shirk our responsibilities? Are we in control...or is it?

That show made a lot of people curious about kratom. The AKA used that interest to educate many who had never heard of it and were looking for a better, less dangerous pain-reliever. The daughter of Motley Crue's guitarist Mick Mars reached out to us and offered to tell her story of how kratom helped her break a long Oxycontin habit, started under doctors' care due to Ankylosing spondylitis. I wrote about it in NaturalNews and it reached many more people.

So, a lot of good came out of that news piece, even though it seemed negative. Most people know these "news stories" are hyped up to gain better Nielsen Ratings. People who are looking for better alternatives to Rx drugs for their pain, typically use kratom very constructively. They're tired of being an addict. They want pain relief and their normal, active life back. And, 9 times out of 10, they get it.

You're welcome, Justin. I'm glad I could help. I hear that so much: "I don't know what I would do without this herb...".
To me, it's a gift of God or Nature and nobody should be threatening us to take it away. It's your right to use whatever you need to ease your pain, so I am glad to help fight for this important human right.
Our system of medicine is just so money-driven and that offends me. Not that I want socialized medicine, but I want you to have access to the best, most effective care that is available -- not the one that is the most profitable to the doctor or the makers of pharmaceutical drugs.
So, I want to help change the dumb, corrupt system we've got. Keeping kratom legal makes the pharmaceutical alternative look really bad -- that an herb can do a better job, for free, if you live in South Florida or somewhere you can grow kratom. It makes an important point.
I believe we can win this fight. It won't be easy, but it is VERY important to you and millions more, who deserve a safe, natural herb to help them with pain, fatigue, depression, and anxiety. I'm glad to be involved in this important project. :)

I agree Paul, in what I have seen, and in my situations, and in how most of the friends and family I have that use Kratom for there ailments, as long as you use Kratom how it is suppose to be used, it will give you and your body and mind back a very big and great life giving surprise!

Take care! Great Post!

I'm glad you're seeing what I'm saying, Justin. There seems to need to be a give-and-take between the consumer and the herb. We must learn how to do our part in helping the kratom to help us feel better. It's a different way of healing than the MDs "Take 2 of these and call me in the morning." -- and I'm not sure that was ever a realistic approach, anyway.

The Tao of working with herbs to achieve better health and more energetic states of body and mind can be learned. It just takes a little sensitivity to what our body is telling us and some respect for the power of the botanical, so we know how much we need to take (and no more than that).

Happy New Year Everybody!

I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Kratom legal here in New Jersey, including testifying at any of the legislative committees or sessions on our behalf. Keeping Krarom legal is very important to me; It has helped my recovery from a hemorrhagic stroke I had in late September of 2014.

I happen to know the doctor who is involved in this fight, as Dr.Infantolino is currently the PCP for a couple of family members. I also took my Mom to appointments with him several times. She no longer goes to him, because quite frankly he is not a very good doctor. The 2 times I went in with her I left shaking my head!

One thing about this doctor: he is one of the few here locally that is certified to prescribe suboxone for recovering addicts. As a former addict myself, I don't have a problem with that at all. However, the main problem Dr. Infantolino has is he probably fears losing business to Kratom as it becomes more in vogue and known about. The public at large and drug addicts in particular, will see it as a means to aid in their quest to get off opiates, and get to do it with a natural botanical substance: Kratom .

I anticipate the Bill to ban Kratom will be a reality early in the legislative session this year. I will do anything I can to hopefully help convince the legislators that Kratom should remain legal, and do like a few states have and just make a requirement that you must be 18 to purchase and posses Kratom. Paul, if you need me in any way to help the AKA in this battle here in NJ, let me know! Y'all keep up the good work!
