I'm a little scared to be honest. I haven't been on my bike since early January, and I don't in any way wish to demean anyone's experience with PTSD, but It feels like that in some ways.

My bicycle was my greatest source of enjoyment for so many years. I see it now collecting dust, and I remember the relationship we used to have, I just think another accident would be the end of me.

It needs repairs before I can ride it again, so I'm thinking I can initiate the repairs and see how I feel after. That will give me another week or so anyway, but I'm uncomfortable and think this is a bad idea. Then again it would help me feel normal again to some extent.

I don't know.

Can you make it stationary and ride indoors as a starting point? Not the same but at least you would be "back in the saddle" so to speak.

Yes, I can do that and it's probably a good idea, to keep the muscles working the way they used to. I just miss being that road warrior and seeing everything from the outside, that bicycle perspective. I'm not going to whine about it anymore though. There are a lot of people here going through much more than I am and again, I don't want to diminish that

This is not a competition.

We all have issues and they are all important too...well to each of us at least!

Getting ON the bike would seem to be a good first (baby) step BEFORE going outside.

AND every journey starts with a single step

If you're concerned you can try defensive driving classes. I don't understand bikes. There seems no point other than feeling the breeze, or going to a bar lol. I just think most accident aren't really fatal, but someone that rides on a motorcycle can possible give someone a vehicular manslaughter charge.

I was assuming pedal bicycle not motor bike as Seven100 did refer to keeping the muscles working.

Seven100,
Avid commuter cyclists in my home.
I used to ride a lot, but bouts of foot/ankle/leg injury have prevented cycling lately.
I bought a pedestal for my road bike so I can bike inside. I even rode with a cast on.
Take it one revolution at a time. Slow. Steady. Consistency will beat speed now.
From being inactive for a very long time, I understand the fear/anxiety.
However (and I speak from experience), the consequences of NOT moving are far worse in the long run.
Best of luck and keep us posted!
Just do it.
Best!

Yeah, definitely a bicycle and not a motorized bike. I think I will try the stationary thing for a little while just to boost my confidence and give me a bit longer to heal.

One thing that I try to be very aware of is that Kratom has relieved my pain, but it hasn't 'healed' me, so whatever was wrong with my body before Kratom is still wrong with my body. Maybe it's something that can never be healed, but one can hope, and I think moving around and exercising in whatever capacity I'm comfortable with can't be a bad thing.

Yeah, that's it. I rode my bike for anywhere from 5 to 15 miles a day for the better part of 15 years. My legs and hips and what not are OK, I'm more worried about leaning over the handle bars at this point because of my shoulder. Then again, I was thinking I could get a beach cruiser and ride on the beach. Then I'd be more upright (saving the shoulder) and if I did fall, the sand would be a little more forgiving, lol.
