Hi all!

I’m sure there are threads about this topic (alcohol), but I just wanted to :-bd say I am very happy because I’m three months alcohol free after 7 years of 24-7 drinking. It’s hard to talk about this topic on ‘sober living’ forums, because the general view is that I’m just substituting K for the drinking, therefore you’re ‘not really’ truly sober.
And pretty much, I am! But Kratom did not harm my body and helped alleviate my anxiety and depression, which the alcohol was making way worse. Better is better! Moderate (4-6 gram) daily Kratom use drastically reduces any alcohol cravings, and also gives me an appetite(because my nutrition was so screwed up while drinking, malnourished but fat and bloated, etc); that the kratom helps me eat more and heal. It doesn’t completely erase all cravings, but it makes them quiet and easily dismissible. So, although opiate WDs are commonly talked about, for a person looking to help cravings, it helped enormously. (I’m NOT advocating using Kratom as an alcohol detox or giving medical advice. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks with borderline cirrhosis and detoxed there. When I got home and stabilized, I used Kratom for cravings. I’m grateful to the reputable and quality vendors who allowed access to this helpful plant

Same here. I drank for 10 years, went to rehab and stopped for 3 years then started back last year. 4 months now and I've haven't drank yet again and don't even want to because it'll interfere with taking kratom.

Good for you, Cori!

Don't let those sober living forums take away from your success. If they had any experience with Kratom they'd know you ARE sober in spite of using it. Why? Because Kratom doesn't make you drunk or high - not even close. What it DOES do is exactly what you've stated - it helps with anxiety, depression, and cravings. It makes you feel NORMAL. How can something that helps make you feel normal at the same time cause you to NOT be sober?

I used to drink off and on to help alleviate my own anxiety issues - you know - drink away the problems, depression, etc. And like you said, all it did was make me feel worse after....self-loathing, etc.

I never had a major drinking problem, but I can say that the desire to drink is gone.....and that, alone, gives me a much healthier lifestyle. And as you alluded to, drinking and Kratom don't mix well, anyway.....

I could ramble on forever. Good luck and keep us posted!

I was drinking too but it was to self medicate for pain.

Once I changed my diet to anti-inflammatory diet (I used the blood type diet) and improved my nutrition, and got the pain under control, all alcohol cravings went away. I seldom drink any alcohol anymore.

I enjoy a glass of wine now and then with dinner if I am out, but honestly I never think about alcohol.

I too just about completely stopped drinking. I did tend to overindulge on alcoholic beverages two to three times per month. For the past year or so, I have had no desire to drink. In the past year or so, I may have had two or three drinks total.

Same. It's just not fun anymore. You know you're going to feel like crap. You know you're going to drink to much, if you smoke you'll defiantly smoke to much and in the mornings your scared to drive because you can still get a dui.

Thank you. Also, I’ve heard of the blood type diet. What physical issues other than cravings were you having that you needed help with?

For me it's really nothing physical - anxiety, depression, mood, motivation.....wanting to kill people. :P

All of those issues contributed to my desire to drink. And as I said earlier, it's not like I was drinking constantly or even every day. But the desire to temporarily suppress/fix my internal issues was ALWAYS there. Kratom has helped me keep things under control much better.

As we all know - you drink to help you feel better for a very minimal period....and then you feel FAR worse after. It's just moronic and yet.........and now I understand why people drink every day.......to stay ahead of the loathing..........

I was producing a lot of mucus...sneezing all the time, itchy nose was normal for me (all probably histamine induced). Also diarrhea could sometimes flare and be problematic. I had developed exercise induced wheezing and coughing and that would go on for about 15 minutes after a cardio type exercise.

All that went away within 3 weeks of following the proper blood type diet. I hardly EVER sneeze now...the only itchy nose I had was when I was on oxycodone, mucus production is nil and no more wheezing. Following the diet meant going off my favourite alcoholic beverages and I was a bit concerned about that but honestly...all cravings went away.

Lately I have fallen off the wagon...eating more wheat, black tea and a few other things. I have probably gained about 10 pounds...going back to stricter blood type diet for sure!
