Hi everyone - I am fairly new to this site and Kratom. I was taking 15 mg of hydrocodone for a few years due to severe back injury and just got fed up with it so I stopped it 3 months ago. Now I'm in pain and very depressed. I found Kratom and was so excited because I'm more of a natural type of person (normally don't like taking medicine). So I burned powder from one of the top vendors recommended here (so I know it isn't the product) - I tried green Bali and Red Horn - I followed all of the recommendations I've read on these sites (empty stomach, soaking in gf juice, turmeric..) and started with 3 g and then boosted up to 7 g over the course of 3 days and literally had no reaction - no pain relief...no mood boost

Hello and welcome!

I have a few questions to ask you if you do not mind? Did you stop taking the pills and jump right into taking kratom?

I ask this because I have read so many similar stories and the reason (we think, no evidence, kratom needs to be studied) may be that the build up of the pills are still in your system. It takes longer after years of use to get narcotic pain meds, this I know I have been there, for them to work out of your system. I have a point, I promise!

My point being that some people do not immediately react to kratom because it is not as strong as an opiate pain reliever that you were on. You can give it time and keep trying, just be careful to not take to much and get a stomach ache. The other point is it is not for everyone. I prefer the first point as it has worked pretty well in my case. I wish you luck. Many of us take kratom for chronic pain. This is more positive, other stories or posts I have read have had success with kratom when it did not work at first.

Do not expect the same buzzy head feeling that hydro's can give but for pain management it can and does work out well for many. Searching for some high (I am not accusing you) is pointless. Certain strains can lift your mood and provide some light euphoria but not all. I would suggest a red indo for pain or red borneo? It is a strange plant and I have had great effect with red horn from the right place also. Good luck and I hope I managed to make sense out of this.

Hi Rose!! Thank you so much for replying. So I went off of Norco in August and started trying Kratom this month (December) so I am really new to Kratom. I only took 15 mg of Norco and never increased - I totally understand about people searching for a high but to be honest I am looking only for pain relief and help with mood...my doctor kept pushing antidepressants on me and I just don't want to go that route! The whole reason I stopped taking Norco was to not feel that loopy feeling...I have a 4 and 5 yr old and my husband is an attorney so he works crazy hours so I just want to not feel drugged but have pain relief and improve my mood...I've heard Kratom helps with motivation and id love that too (I never felt depressed ever in my life until these last few months - my brother was just diagnosed with cancer, my father-in-law just went into hospice, and I'm in pain a lot so depression has hit me hard and it has left me with zero drive which is so frustrating so I'd love help with that too!). What strains help with mood and motivation from your experience? I just ordered a sampler from mmm speciosa so I'm hoping something will help from this batch.

I read another post from you about going through withdrawal from Kratom so I definitely want to be careful with that. So any pointers so that I don't experience that would be great. If I can find the right strain my plan is to never exceed 3 grams ever.

Thank you again so much for your response Rose! You've helped a lot. I am loving this forum! Thank you everyone for your experiences and knowledge!

Sarah

I'm So Sorry to hear about your Brother & your Father In Law. That's Horrible news. I can't Imagine what you are going through right now with your Family + you have Pain & Depression to deal with. :pinch:

I think the Reason Kratom is not Working for you is the Norco is not totally out of your system. You have built up a Tolerance to your Pain Medicine that effects the same Pain Receptors that Kratom does. So in effect you also have a Beginning Tolerance to Kratom. You would need to take some Enhanced or Extract Kratom to Feel Some Pain Relief but I know you don't want to do that. So I would Suggest to keep taking Kratom just buy some Samples of every Strain that you can & see which one Helps you the Best. Usually Green Malay is the All Around Strain for Everything.

I would suggest trying The Green Malay mixed with Sumatra White for Mood & Motivation. Mixed together these 2 Strains should life your mood quite a bit & give you some Energy with some Light Euphoria. For Pain I would suggest Bentuangie or Red Sumatra Strains. These two Strains seem to be the best overall for Pain Relief but find the Strains that work best for your Body Chemistry. Everybody reacts differently to different Kratom Strains. You can also use Bentuangie for Insomnia.

Good Luck with Kratom. I hope you Feel Better Soon. ;)

Sarah,

I'm truly sorry to hear about serious health troubles of your family, and your own pain to deal with.

I wish you a happier 2016, and please know that you have my support, even if it's from a stranger.

The people on the board here are a great source of help with Kratom information.

I can understand you needing a mood boost. Are you not getting that from the strains your taking at all? As I wrote before they all work so differently on different people and from day to day.

Congrats on getting off the Norco's you have had a long break from pills so for some it just takes time and practice with the different strains to find relief. For me it works at a dose 2 to 3x a day but others just take it as needed with days in between. I do not doubt the vendor and if you choose you can PM me about vendors, one in particular here is wonderful.

I do hope you manage through the Holidays and you do have support here, even if you decide kratom is not for you. There are wonderful articles and such. I have seen many come and go here but I think that is because compared to other places we do not have a lot of drama. It is good to see more and more people sticking around. This is a great place!

For mood lift I found a green maylay works for me and mixed with a good red borneo or sumatra it can really take the edge off of pain! Lots of luck and thank you for your kind words :)

There are so Many variable with Kratom like:

Where it is grown & what kind of soil it is Grown in .
How many Hours of Sunlight per day & How much Water do the Plants get.
When they pick the Leaves.
How they Dry, Process, Grind & Store the Kratom.
Also How long is has been since the Kratom Leaves has been Picked etc.

These all Can Determine What Kind Of Effects Kratom Will Have On You & It's Quality. (L)
