There was a thread with some good discussion about why kratom doesn't work as well some days... I just can't find it or I'd add to the discussion there.

I think that when I am exhausted and sleep deprived I find less pain relief (and to a lesser extent the other benefits) from kratom. I've noticed this a few times now. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

ETA: Ugh! I put this in the wrong place again! Sorry!

I have been wondering the same thing.

Sometimes when I do not get the pain relief I need, I am tempted to take more, but I have learned that taking more Kratom does not necessarily make it work any better. That makes it pretty clear that there is something going on that is preventing the Kratom from working well for me that day.

There have been discussions here about potentiators, but what about antagonists ie things that block the Kratom alkaloids from working.

Are there any identified antagonists we know about?

Good questions! I certainly got less benefit today. Too much THINKING! Haha! Seriously, I would love answers to this as well. Sometimes I think I did something wrong. But I've also tried MORE, and it rarely helps.

The times when my usual Kratom dose does not work is when I add a dose of Akuamma (2-3Gm) after about 60-90 mins. That usually helps a lot and means I do not have to up my Kratom dose in order to get pain relief.

This is something I learned on this forum and I am so thankful!

So I'm not the only one. ;) I really do plan on trying the akuamma some day. It also sounds good for people taking breaks from kratom. And if I were to do that, I would see how it works with rhodiola to keep the mood up. :)

I think living with chronic pains makes our signals get all loopy. Sometimes the analgesic effect of kratom doesn't work because our neurons have decided to mess around.

I have allodynia, so a hug or someone squeezing my arm as a gesture when they're talking to me can hurt. Allodynia is basically botched up pain signalling. Maybe not getting pain relief one day is similar to that.

And we've touched on it in other discussions, but stress (and not sleeping well is a stressor) can definitely amplify pain response.
