So I wouldn't say I'm new here, I've been here about 6-7 months or so. This is the place I came to when I first wanted to try kratom, I got lots of helpful advice, and I kind of went on my merry way for a while, checking in occasionally, switching vendors when I needed to.

However, I'm at the point where I really, really want to quit and I have very few people to talk to about it.
I have refractory restless legs syndrome. This may sound like a mild problem compared to some medical problems out there, but it ruined my quality of life for years. Every night I'd have to go to bed early. I couldn't sit through a movie with my spouse. I couldn't sit for more than 30 minutes at a time, during any part of the day. My life was full of pacing and walking. I tried EVERYTHING. Finally, I went to a sleep specialist who prescribed a low dose of Oxycodone. (7.5 mg at night). It worked. PERFECT.

However, I never told my sig other about it and I began to worry about the way it made me feel and if I were dependent on it. I should also mention I'm 5 years sober from alcohol. Not one drop. So I have an addictive nature, although drugs never bothered me (take it or leave it, always).

One month, I ran out of my script a couple days early because I'd had a popped ovarian cyst and used the Oxy for pain. Not a big deal, but I thought, hey, I'll try kratom to get me through the last week of the month. I bet it'll help and I bet I won't have RLS, either, since it works on the opioid receptors.

And I didn't. It was perfect! However, I soon began to notice that kratom took away my crushing social anxiety. I tried never to take kratom and oxy on the same day. I began to alternate them. Before long, I WAS taking them on the same day, and honestly? Digging the late-night euphoria.

I won't lie. My life is exceedingly hard. My spouse is bipolar and out of work. I'm in school full-time. I work from home full-time. I have a special needs autistic toddler. I'm depressed and anxious. ALWAYS. EVERY DAY. Kratom helped. It helped me in social situations, it helped me sleep, it helped me focus on work, it helped. And I felt good at the end of the day.

However, after several months went by and I realized I'd moved onto liquid extract AND caps AND my regular script that I had problem. Two weeks ago I spent $300 on kratom alone. My spouse does not know. I can't mess around with powders and measuring with my schedule AND hide it as well. He also would never understand. So that's a no.

So I decided to taper and now I. Am. More. Miserable. Than. Before. I went from 40g on Sunday to 10g by last night and I'm miserable.

To top it off, it was MY vendors that had the salmonella outbreak, so I'm thinking what I possibly could have done to my family if I had gotten sick. There's no one else to viably take care of my son.

And now I don't really know what to do. No friends to talk to about this. It's an absolute no talking to my doctor.

Do I continue taking low-dose kratom as well? Do I quit cold turkey? Do I give in this weekend and slow my taper down because I feel so awful? I'm at a loss. I'm definitely two seconds away from saying "screw it" on trying to quit.

I HEAR you. Instead of cutting back, I went to Extracts!

They help. But. The next day is DETOX DAY, too similar to an opiate lifestyle of hello.

I’ve been cutting back and then NOT for about 2 weeks. But I’m sick A LOT. Got a virus now that will not let go.

All of my other bothersome problems that kratom helps with ON TOP OF THIS VIRUS AND PERI MENOPAUSE is impossible. I’m determined to continue quitting. But I’m going SLOW AS MOLASSES because I’m not ANY MORE CAPABLE of functioning with my unresolved pain and depression now than I was before kratom!

I also added kanna to my routine AND IT HELPS calm things down versus HURRY AND GET CLEAN, HURRY AND QUIT, etc. Friends and family are encouraging the kanna be continued. As for kratom, take it a day at a time. Slow your taper down! Those big jumps set you up for failure. Smaller jumps, more patience with YOURSELF (I know you don’t have time. But you would do this more carefully if it were your autistic son needing to SLOWLY reduce a med). My point is to be as nice to yourself as you are to OTHERS and SLOW DOWN and maybe START OVER. You’re not a failure til you quit trying! You can do this. THEN HOW WILL YOU SLEEP?! How have your other issues been resolved?
You’ll get this!

The extracts will raise your tolerance and make it harder .

Thanks for your responses. After taking a deep breath I think I'm going to cut myself a little bit of a break, esp. over the weekend. I haven't had any extract since Monday, and that was only a little bit. At one point I was drinking 2 11g bottles of liquid extract at night, along with the caps, and yes, that is SOOO EXPENSIVE and that's also what got me into a terrible situation.

It's not horrible if I spend $30-40/week on kratom, especially since it is working, but the level I was at was absolutely crazy. I'm just worried if I don't make a clean break, I'll ramp back up. :(

Sounds like you’ve come a helluva long way. Definitely APPRECIATE your improvements so far, breathe, push forward as you can. Much more slowly with the dosing.

I was glad I’ve been addicted to substances before when I tried the Extracts recently. Like you, I’m recovering and have a healthy respect for that road looking shorter.

Just keep your eye on the goal. Lose focus and you’re in trouble. Your focus sounds absolute. That’s good!

Hello.
When I first started taking kratom Years ago I went overboard at first.
Like 2 oz a day or more for a bit.
A bit being 6 months.
Wow.
What I did I got a scoop that is about a tablespoon and took that instead 3 times day.
At first I didn't notice the effects .
First few days then I started feeling it again.
It takes awhile but don't give up.
We can abuse kratom like anything else.
Food,alcohol,or whatever .
It is (like cannabis) to be used responsibly and I promise it will always take care of you.
God bless

If I have a period of heavier Kratom use (like just recently) then I DO notice very mild withdrawal symptoms for a couple of days as I taper down to my normal dose and frequency.

Usually this is VERY mild and I just space out the intervals between doses until I am back to my regular frequency again. Honestly as long as I keep busy and well rested I do not notice it very much.

I do not use extracts at all...pretty sure they are not available in Canada at least I have not seen any on my vendor sites.

I didn't go berserk this weekend, ramping back up to where I was, but I didn't adhere to a pencil-and-paper taper like I was doing (i.e., you can only have 2 caps her hour every 2 hours, etc).

I'm not super thrilled with myself but I also feel like this might be more of a mental thing and perhaps I need to give it a little more time. I'm definitely down to ~10-12g a day from 35-40 and I think that's great progress. Ideally, I'd love to get to a point where I didn't feel the need to take ANY, at least for a day or so here and there.

I have made a promise to myself not to buy extracts anymore and only stick to caps. I have an extremely busy week ahead and sometimes that can help, and sometimes that can hurt.
