Ok. I'm 62 years old. 35+ years in the construction trades. Retired drawing disability. Mid to lower back pain is becoming intolerable. Degenerative disc disease, arthritis, etc. Most nights cannot sleep due to severe unrelenting back pain. So far, the only medication that gives me relief is oxycodone. I have like 5 5mg tablets left and not really sure I can get any more. Was referred to spine & pain management doctor. He said his only recommendation is radio frequency nerve ablation. But it doesn't last very long and has to be repeated. I don't want needles stuck in my back - period. Looking to try Kratom. Any thoughts on when, where, how, and dosage would be most helpful. Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Many here are from similar situations. Hold tight more answers will follow.
First find a good source of Kratom. Smoke shops are known to have poor quality Kratom so check out the approved vendor list on this forum.

Christopher's Organic Botanicals comes highly recommend by members of this forum. He also posts here too.
There are many other recommended vendors sometimse it will also come down to kratom selection and price.

Decide how you want to consume Kratom. You can purchase capsules but they are pricey and might need to take 4 or more to get the needed dose.I use powder. I measure my Kratom in a leveled teaspoon(about 2 grams) and also weight with a scale. Consider also buying a scale this helps with accurate dosing and help prevent tolerence. I put my Kratom powder in a cup and mix it with water. To me it taste like dirty green tea.

Recommended starting dose is 2 grams. Wait 1/2 hour to see and then you can try increasing dose. 1/2to 1 gram until you notice pain relief. Someone can explaining this dosing better. or check recent post here in the "new to Kratom"section. I take Kratom on an empty stomach or one hour after eating. Please drink plenty of water with Kratom use.
Note-Most who have been using oxycodone might have a higher starting dose.

Choose Kratom strains. Recommended for pain are Reds. You can order samples to start. Its also good to learn how to rotate a few different strains to prevent tolerance.

Pain Relief-
Red Bali
Red Borneo
Red Maeng Da
Red Bentuangie- most sedating strain

Greens- have more energy and moderate pain relief. I used these to start.
Green Borneo
Green Malay.

Try not to start with using any extracts or enhanced strain.

Please ask any questions you need you will get more feedback soon.

I was able to avoid the radio frequency nerve ablation procedure because I had good success with a homeopathic remedy.

Search on homeopathic remedies for this forum and read the thread.

Recent data on radio frequency nerve ablation shows that it is not much more helpful in the long run for back problems than exercise, so I am glad I avoided it.

I have been doing yoga for 5 years and it has made an ENORMOUS difference in the health of my spine. I still have back pain but I use Kratom before exercise and it is managed well (usually - nothing is perfect!).

I also use manual therapies such as chiropractic and massage and physiotherapy.

Oxy will not cure your back pain, neither will Kratom. You have to get at the root cause which is usually muscle imbalances or arthritis (inflammation)

I used oxycodone for three years in order to be able to get through yoga practice and increase my exercise until I was healthy enough to taper off it.

I am in a bit of a hurry right now so will sign off ...others can chime in about what strains etc to use for pain.

Anything else you want to know specifically about healing back pain and using Kratom in that process just let me know.

Right now I am off to Pilates session- another form of exericse helpful for back health!

Was referred to spine & pain management doctor. He said his only recommendation is radio frequency nerve ablation.

If that is all the doc has to offer you he is not a good doc.
Chronic pain management requires a holistic approach and ANY doctor specializing in back pain should be reommending physical activitiy of some sort to strengthen and stretch the spine.

Let us know how you make out with your first few doses of kratom...we can guide you through the starting process.

Welcome, Hvac,
I have had similar issues.
My advice and what worked for me - a good osteopath who does osteopathic manipulation therapy (can be found at DOCSWHODO.com); Red Bentuangie Kratom dosed every few hours at 2 grams each time or as needed; stress relief (meditation for me); and a program on PBS called Basic Stretch (there are also free videos on their website; specialty is pain relief); movement - I can now swim.
Best of luck,
T

Reds tend to be more effective with some of the symptoms you describe, yet greens and whites might be better for days periodically
Red elephant, either regular red md or dark red md, red ketapang, red bali
Any of these or a combination thereof
These and many more might help
It would be smart to discover a proper way of determining your amount
I weigh mine.... many dont, individual preference
Its nice to know exactly how much is needed and used
Many reds have pain relieving properties
The mind usually tells us more is better....
Not the case with Kratom.
Hope this helps

Welcome to the best kratom Forum ever, Hvacgraham.

You’re among peers here. Definitely get a sample/starter pack from an approved vendor and report back. Rob at In Sense is not YET on the approved list, but I recommend his products personally.

I recommend ALL of the APPROVED VENDORS as well! I have posted comments on all that I have tried so far.

You might give Rob a try. You might say he “specializes” in construction industry related pain and started a business selling kratom as a result. His reds and everything else are at kratominsense.com and he is only an email away if you have questions.

Good to have you here.
