Hello, I am going to try to keep this as short as I can, but here is my story. Diagnosed with Atypical Odontalgia (aka phantom tooth pain) around 2011 (took 5 years to figure out what it was). Basically, I feel as if I have a toothache in every back molar (top and bottom) in the right side of my mouth. Before diagnosis, had root canals and even a tooth pulled, but pain just got worse. Neurologist tried me on anticonvulsants, but they did not work. I asked to be put on a low dose of a tricyclic antidepressant (imipramine; low doses have an analgesic effect) and I became pain free (with only occasional breakthrough pain) for 6 years. Around 6 months ago, the med stopped working: tried increasing dose (no help), tried other tricyclics (no help) and then tried med in other class (Cymbalta/SNRI) and no help (even added clonazepam and no help). My neurologist gave up and now I am on no meds and in pain every day. Sister suggested I try kratom (helped her with fibromyalgia) and I have been experimenting with strains and dosages for the past two weeks. So far tried Red Maeng Da, Red Bali, Red Bentuangie, Red Borneo, and Green MD (from 3 different trusted suppliers). Has not helped with the pain (tried up to 5g; please note that opiates do not help with this pain at all and I haven't been on any, so no tolerance). I am small (5'6", 116 lbs), so I wouldn't think I would need much higher of a dosage. Actually, the Red Bentuangie seemed to increase my pain at ~2g. I am not sure if I should keep trying other strains or even higher dosages(???) Anyone out there suffer from this type of pain who has had success with kratom? I also tried 60mg CBD gummies and a "high potency" CDB oil, but no help either. thanks!

Hi, krit138: I haven't experienced the pain you're describing, but I have been observing and reporting the experiences of many users of kratom for more than 5 years. I have written many articles about the many uses people have found for kratom. Through all this researching and talking to kratom consumers, I have gleaned some insights that may be helpful (or they may not).

I see that you have only tried Red Vein strains so far. I have noticed that a small number of people react differently to the strains than most. That is, some few obtain pain relief from White Vein strains and conversely, they are stimulated by Red Vein strains. I would suggest trying several White Vein and Green Vein strains. You may also need to try larger doses.

Some people find relief immediately. Others take several tries before they feel the relief. Very few that I've seen have never been able to find any relief after earnestly trying many ways.

I hope you find the pain relief you're seeking. I would just suggest you be persistent and try ALL the 3 basic vein colors several times before giving up.

Hi kemppaulh!
thanks for your reply!
Actually I have tried Green MD (mentioned in above post), but I forgot to mention that I already tried White Maeng Da (tried the white the first day). Both of those seemed to aggravate the pain. The white aggravated the pain AND gave me heart palpitations which was not good at all (only took 1g). I tried the Green MD a second time this afternoon and lo and behold, the pain got worse once again. This morning I tried increasing my dosage of Red and did a total of 6g gram (3g Bali and 3g Borneo) and the pain increased, so I added 1g more of Bali about an hour later and pain stayed the same. From these experiences, I don't think I want to try any more white or green, but I still have Elephant kratom (Green) at home that I have not tried yet. I am afraid to try all the rest that I have since pain seems to increase after taking some of them. I know kratom has helped SO MANY people, so I am not sure why I am having such a difficult time with it. I would understand if I didn't get relief OR just got a little relief, but I cannot understand why it seems to be making the pain worse.

I am going to jump RIGHT OUTSIDE THE KRATOM BOX.

Have you tried chiropractic? I am just thinking it could be referred pain.

If you decide to try search for a chiropractor that practises NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic) method. VERY gentle....I would not do anything else.

I think the key to the answer to your question is the word ATYPICAL...hence my suggestion for something else besides just taking something for pain.

Hello and welcome to forum. You have been given great advice I do not want to confuse things too much. There are other alternative to Kratom. If your kratom quest become exhausted you can research these.
www.kratomnews.org/best-kratom-alternatives/

About bo's suggestion - trying chiropathic alternative. I would look into this. My niece was experiencing symptoms(too long to list) that took her out of the 2 semester of college she could no longer function and she went un-diagnosed after exhaustive tests. She suffered a concussion a year and half ago prior to all this and they linked this to her problems, her treatment ended up chiropathic. I was surprised that type treatment worked but it was the only thing that helped. I always thought it only helped a stiff neck or bad back but it treats unexpected conditions.

Hi bomalley & Nan70, I thought about chiropractic, but haven't gotten to that yet. I have tried some sort of Japanese mouth exercises (specific to this disorder), but that did nothing. I had an MRI and there were no compressed nerves (just a large Mucosal retention cyst in maxillary sinus (right side). 3cm diameter). Neurologist said it wouldn't cause this pain though. I have an appointment this Monday with my endocrinologist to perhaps see if I may have a metabolism or malabsorption issue. I am hoping that is my problem because that would explain why all medications didn't work (and why the one that used to work stopped working). Just my own theory though, so I may be completely wrong. Maybe I am grasping at straws at this point, but I never get a break from this pain except for when I sleep, so I am desperate. Thank you both for your suggestions!

a large Mucosal retention cyst in maxillary sinus

I just googled this and it can cause adverse symptoms- "this cyst can become large and cause symptoms as paresthesia, sensitivity to palpation, chronic headache, nasal blockage, and dizziness."
Does your doctor feel your pain symptoms do not fit the typical reactions that might be associated with this condition?? I know google is no substitute for a doctors advice but maybe seek a second opinion.

I wondering about the sinuses when I read your description of symptoms. I used to suffer from chronic infections, every morning lately(allergy season) I wake up and all 4 molar quadrants are aching and throbbing.I know this to be a sinus issue but the pain alleviates fairly quickly after I get up and move around.
Just to note I am an alarmist of dismissive doctors who do not exhaust the smallest of possibilities, personal experiences.

I hope you find your solution.

I saw two neurologists about that cyst and neither thought it had anything to do with my teeth pain. I don't have too many sinus problems (just an occasional sinus headache), but no blocked nasal issues and no sinus infections. My cyst is quite large and it grew 0.5cm in 6 years. The MRI was also reviewed by an anesthesiologist and he didn't seem to think anything of it either. I did forget to mention that I also had a nerve block performed (RT V2/V3 block at the lateral pterygoid plate) and even when the anesthetic was still in effect (numbing the entire right bottom half of my face) I still had a lot of pain. Frustrating to say the least. I will keep on trying....it is all I can do. Thank you!

Hi krit138,

There is another thread here that might be of interest to you. The girls are talking about homeopathic stuff - they know what they’re talking about - it seems to be VERY DIFFERENT from kratom, pain pills, etc.

Look for the thread about Nerve Pain here:

www.ilovekratom.com/forum/frequently-ask...-relief#.WvkMdhZlDYU

Those girls are as good as having a nurse online 24/7.

It’s just a thought, IF you haven’t already tried it (as well as all three strain colors and a couple of different vendors).

Hi Laurie, I will check out that other thread. Thanks!
Yes, I have tried all 3 kratom vein colors, mixed and blended as well as taking only single strains and tried kratom from 3 different reputable vendors to no avail. Have endocrinology appointment today, so I will see what they say. Thanks again!
