Hi - I'm new to the Forum, and haven't yet tried Kratom. I have "treatment resistent depression" and advanced Restless Leg Syndrome. For those who don't know... the only western medical treatment for advanced RLS if the Parkinson's medication, Pramepexole, which leaves me crying and in a fog the next day. Neurologists aren't invested in learning more about it, and there is no research being done. I'm now building a tolerance to this horrible medeication, and need to both get off of it and replace it - I pray - with Kratom. Does anyone have any advice on how to get off the RLS medication while replacing with Kratom? And, does anyone know of a great doctor or center for RLS in or near Philadelphia? Many thanks!

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, KALB.

I don’t know about doctor referrals. But many of us use kratom to treat RLS! Kratom is a wonderful tool.

Once you read up on it, you’ll need to be willing to try it without stopping your medication. None of us can instruct on treating disease, but kratom relieves symptoms and chances are, you’ll be able to stop using that medication with your dr’s assistance.

There is lots of reading material here for you! Many people with that condition will comment, and try using the SEARCH field above for keywords like RLS, RESTLESS LEGS etc.

EDIT: Read discussions on how to communicate with your doctors regarding the stigma of misinformation being spread through propaganda due to special interests with regard to MAKING MONEY SELLING DRUGS, not utilizing plant material. I’m sure you’ve seen the misinformation in the media.

Hope you find that helpful for now.

Thanks Laurie! Not only doesn’t my neurologist ( U of Penn!) know nothing about Kratom, but he hardly knows anything about RLS! Very disconcerting.

Unfortunately, if you mention kratom, you can expect to possibly be treated like a “drug seeker” (misinformation stigma) and our electronic files are FOREVER.

Truth be told, we are guilty until proven innocent, so that’s why I regretfully recommend using caution with anyone in health care, in particular anyone with a computer, phone or prescription pad.

hi KALB! im sorry I do not know anything about the drugs used to help 'treat' RLS. but I do have some experience on vein issues, and kratom. I do have vein disease ( I am going to vein clinics of America ) and I know they ask about rls symptoms. compression hose do help a bit but im still getting mine treated at the end of the year.

they do an ultrasound on your legs to see if they are veins that can be treated/ have vein disease and after the treatment you have to wear the hose every day for a week. my insurance lets me treat 2 a week so no way im going to do this in the summer. you do need to get insurance approval and it is an elective surgical procedure so it is big $$$. but your deductible is none of my business lol.

now as far as kratom it has helped me positively in many ways. stress, pain and mood enhancement. is my new normal over traditional OTC meds, which right now I cant take anyways. either way im rambling if you have questions we are here!

hi kalb
I have RLS also. I find vitamin d3, and magnesium help. If you try the magnesium I recommend you try magnesium citrate. Magnesium oxide is cheapest but has the lowest bio availability of all the forms.

I also recommend the citrate version. The oxide one is useless without the citrate.

Stress and worry can really do damage - to our symptoms and aggravated anxiety can make things worse.

I definitely recommend you START trying kratom in a rotation fashion with your current medication. Rotate one or the other. Taking turns. Especially while it’s a weekend and you can rest and SEE HOW YOU FEEL by paying attention to your health, KALB.

Rotating is often step one to eventually removing medication altogether.

Browse through our FIND A VENDOR / RATE A VENDOR section for some reviews from our members.

So many of us have suffered with RLS. It should not be a lifelong issue unless you are battling Parkinson’s or another progressive disorder. But that’s why it’s important to listen to your dr in case you are battling a progressive disease/illness.

Being it’s a symptom of something, you do not want to lose focus on a cure. But symptom RELIEF will do wonders for your sleep cycles and you can better battle an illness or disease with proper rest.

So good to hear from you and you are just likely suffering from trepidation about trying something so new and foreign.

Take a look at AKACHAT on the website for battling lawmakers to keep our herb legal through only DONATIONS at www.americankratom.org for a great resource for your research.

Many of us are also branching out into other botanicals and you might want to consider some of the less intimidating ones that only offer sedative/calming effects and/or relaxation. RLS is a bit more than a nuisance. You have our support.
