I find this interesting. I did a stint as a cosmetic formulator, and that included learning about the mechanisms of our skin and how it absorbs, or doesn't absorb things. I would want to know a lot more about the chemistry of Kratom to see what the exact mechanism would be that allows it to enter the body through the skin. (I am very geeky about this stuff).

There is evidence of the body's ability to absorb some essential oils. When I taught fledgling product makers I always warned them about this. In reality, your skin is designed to keep stuff out so you have to think long and hard about trying to overcome that barrier.

I have a diclofenic cream that is wonderful for back pain. But that was formulated to deliver through the skin. I used to make a pain rub that included MSM and also capsicum oleoresin. I think most of the action was from the ability of the capsicum to heat the surface of the skin.

But heck, it's always worth trying.

My friend that lives in Alabama, the one whose father in law just turned 95, has EDS. She has major issues in a plethora of her bodies system. She literally dislocates her hips and then they relocate with every step she takes. She sounds like a popcorn machine making popcorn, one kernel at a time. It hurts to listen to her walk. She started using my salve and now she can walk without whimpering with every step. Her hips still dislocate, but at least she can tolerate the pain now. The salve doesn't cure anything on her or anybody else, but it makes doing all the little things in life tolerable. I've had many people who have used this salve tell me what a god send it was for them, how it changed their lives. Those are the comments that make it all worthwhile, knowing that you're helping someone get a grip on their pain so they can funcion in life. NOBODY should have to live in pain, nobody!

This weekend I'll get out my formulating stuff and give it a go. I suspect there is an anti-inflamatory component in Kratom. It also depends on if the the magic stuff is oil or water soluable. It may be that in an oil base (as in a salve), there is a chemical component that disolves into an absorbable substance and it could be anti-inflamatory.

When I gave people my pain rub, they would swear it did things that I cannot account for chemically based on the formula. But there is a lot of proof that belief can be very powerful.

Oh there's no doubt about that! My friend in Alabama, the one with EDS was using the cannabis salve I make long before I tried making kratum salve. From her experience with both of them she's determined that the kratum does not have the anti-inflammatory actions that the cannabis does. I make a special blend for her of both combined. That way she gets the fast action and longer lasting effects of the kratum and the stronger anti-inflammatory actions of the kratum. She feels like she gets the best of both worlds. She's basically my go to sounding board for anything I make or alter in my existing salves and lotions. She's extremely tuned in to her body and pays attention to what it's telling her.
