I wake up every day and am proud because kratom truely saved me. I have been addicted to many substances including oxy, alcohol, coke etc etc.. last july i totaled my car and luckily got away with 6 stiches and a life time of back pain. I had tried kratom years ago, and it helped a little, but was hard to get good kratom. Well 2 1\2 months ago i started using kratom and havent gone back to any old addictions. With kratom i can control my pain and my life. I think Kratom is a blessing and everyone should know about it. It changed my life. Just thought I would share my story to people that might be able to relate. If anyone here ever needs to just talk or anything I'm here :-)

That's a truly inspiring journey you have had. I'm always amazed at how many stories are out there. It really is sad the bad press kratom gets. Thanks for sharing

Of course, no problem! It is a shame the way news talks about kratom. What they compare it to is completely stupid.

I'm the same exact way.. Been sober since I discovered it... I love kratom and love being sober

Is anyone else in recovery and go to 12 step meetings? I've found kratom isn't looked at very positively in the recovery community

Kratom is looked at as a Addictive Drug in the Recovery Community. I wish they could see all it's benefits instead of seeing it as a Legal High.

My thought on this is that some of us have an innate desire desire to access more areas of our consciousness than others, whether this is a medical need due to something lacking in our diet or whatever reason. We should be free to find something that allows us to perform at more efficiency, until we find an even better way to optimize our function -- so we can find our way out of the hole we're in.
Kratom satisfies this need for a boost in our intelligence, without harming us. It doesn't necessarily become an addiction, unless we let it. It helps us think better and have the energy to put our new insights into practice, so I don't see the harm if it is used for constructive purposes.

There is an article that came out in the New York Times on Saturday, the 2nd of Jan. that dealt very badly with kratom. If you, or anyone else, would care to write a polite, factual to the Editor, it would be very helpful.

Please focus on how non-addictive kratom is, when used responsibly and with educated care.
Here is the article: www.nytimes.com/2016/01/03/us/kratom-an-...ddictive-itself.html

Here's the link and instructions for writing a letter to the editor (Please, don't be rude or they won't publish, be constructive and stay on topic.) This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Another, easier paper to write comments to is: www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/option...e/#comments#comments

Thanks for your help to keep kratom legal! BTW: People interested in learning about kratom are being sent to this forum, so help 'em out, please.

You know Paul, something I will mention when I write my letter is that kratom is self limiting. For most people if you take too much it quits working. More importantly, if kratom were used instead of narcotics (and alcohol) the death rate from overdose would drop to zero. That fact might give tham pause. Maybe.

That is a very good point, Laura. Kratom has a "ceiling effect" and it will tell you quite forcefully when you've gone beyond your limit. It makes me very cautious and eager to stay below that limit.
I was thinking about that NYT article this morning, as I wrote my blog. For drug addicts and alcoholics, what are the mainstream-approved alternatives to kratom for those who wish to undo their addiction? Suboxone? Methadone? Both are quite dangerous, even fatal, and more addictive than heroin. It's just a transfer of addiction from one poison to another. (At least that article has stirred up a lot of positive interest from people who are desperate to get off drugs, which leads me to believe they have the dedication to do it right, carefully, and succeed!)
