TOPIC: Question about Kratom Tea

Question about Kratom Tea 8 months 4 weeks ago #13482

I boiled some Kratom to make Kratom tea and strained it into a cup. Right after that I got a call and had to leave and ended up being gone for 14 hours. My question, is the drink still safe to drink after sitting out for 14 hours?

We covered this in a class one time. We covered "sun-tea", which is black tea that is left in the sun to heat up and make tea over the course of a fully day. It's the same concept. While I cannot comment on making Kratom into tea, I can comment on what I learned in college regarding black tea. Sun-tea is supposed to be bad, and we should never make it, but we all do. It's akin to left over Pizza, we should never eat it if it's over a an hour old and left out, and not refrigerated, but we do. We leave it out and eat it the next day...and the next day...and most people have done this.

Did you get sick?

Theoretically, you could get sick. Statistically speaking, if you're a super clean person, you're chances are higher, not lower, so it's important to take this into consideration also. This should help you determine any type of risk you have with tea, not Kratom tea, but tea in general. I have noticed that tea takes about two to three days to start to mold, but I think bacteria multiply in a logarithmic or exponential scale, this is the most important thing to note.

Considering the rapid rate of multiplication, I would be hesitant to consume black tea that has been left out that long. If I had to, I would add Ascorbic acid, much like they do in Mexico.

You should be fine, i'd say if it's more than 24 hours i wouldn't risk it though. I often work 14 or even 16 hour days, and i'll make a big 'ol jar of tea with unpasturized apple cider vinegar (probiotic) to last me all day. I don't know if the vinegar helps it last, but I haven't had any trouble even after drinking it after it's been in my pack all day.

Apple Cider Vinegar makes a great anti-fungal and anti-bacterial spray...so I'm pretty sure it would help keep a product longer :)
