Kratom, the new sensation in the medicinal world, known to have a pain relief effects is substantially replacing opiates as analgesics.

Containing the alkaloids 7-hydroxy mitragynine and mitragynine, this herb, generically called Mitragyna speciosa is a potent pain killer.

It has been used for ages to get rid of the acute and chronic pain, but only recently it has been considered by the scientific society as a replacement for opiate and related drugs that given to patients who suffer from severe debilitating pain.

How does Kratom act as an analgesic?
The alkaloids present in Kratom, mitragynine, and 7-hydroxy mitragynine are responsible for the analgesic effect.

These alkaloids act on the opiate receptors found in the central nervous system. Opioid receptors are of three types; delta, kappa, and mu.

These receptors respond to the alkaloids present in Kratom.

Through signal transduction, they send a message to the neuronal cell, and it acts by increasing the output of enkephalins and endorphins.

Enkephalins and Endorphins are part of the analgesia pathways of the human body. They work by suppressing pain signals at various points in the pain pathway.

These points located at the spinal cord level and the anterolateral spinothalamic pathways.

So basically, Kratom helps in the suppression of pain by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters present naturally within the human body.

For what types of pain is Kratom used?
Kratom used for various types of pain. The pain could be acute in nature or chronic.

However, people, most use it for chronic pain that cannot settle by any other medication like Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone, etc.

People also use Kratom for pain instead of morphine and other opiates because it has a lesser tendency to develop tolerance and dependence.

Usually, after surgery people take Kratom to get relief from the excruciating pain. Kratom commonly made by individuals who suffer from cancer and maladies that involve intense pain related to cancer.

Women usually use Kratom to get rid of the pain that associated with aging. This pain is due to osteoporosis, menopause, joint stiffening, arthritis or muscle aches due to loss of elasticity.

Kratom can also be used the relieving pain of torn muscles or tendons, after accidents and heavy exercises.

It is used commonly for back pain, fibromyalgia, kyphosis and scoliosis, joint inflammation, carpal tunnel syndrome, synaptic nerve pain, fractures, reconstruction surgeries, etc.

Is it a safer option as compared to other medications?
You should be a 110% confident while using Kratom as a natural treatment for pain. Unlike other drugs (Vicodin, Hydrocodone) it is safe and highly effective.

It considered safe because it is not addictive like opiates. The alkaloids present in Kratom do not interact with the cell machinery in a negative way.

The side effects of Kratom are fewer if used responsibly. Mild side effects include nausea, a mental fog which goes way if the dose is adjusted.

In all the documented cases of Kratom usage, there have been zero incidences of any serious injury or fatality.

Which is the best Kratom for pain relief?
All types of Kratom act as an analgesic, but certain strains are more potent as compared to other strains.

These strains have a higher content of mitragynine and 7-hydroxy mitragynine thus they act as better analgesics. Two strains that particularly used for the painkilling action of Kratom are Red Bali and Maeng Da Kratom.

Red Maeng Da and White Maeng Da both produce a considerable amount of analgesia. These two strains are responsible for creating numbness and bring about a soothing effect thus these are the favorite strains of many customers.

The analgesia lasts for hours, relieving pain like that of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, chronic backache, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
These strains produce sedation that helps in getting rid of discomfort caused by pain.

Red Bali Kratom has a prominent feature of analgesic action. The dose of this pressure should be carefully monitored to get proper analgesia.

A small dose of 2 grams is effective in producing analgesia. Those who are tolerant to the effects of this strain may increase the dose to 6 grams.

It cuts the pain allowing your mind and body to rest peacefully.

These strains of Kratom help you in carrying out the usual daily chores of life without causing any inhibition that chronic pain does.

They allow you to stay energetic and active throughout the day. Thus you can stay positive like you always used to after consumption of these incredible strains.

Dose of Various Kratom strains that can utilize as painkillers
Red Bali kratom: 2-6 grams
Maeng Da kratom: 1 gram to 5 grams (Red Maeng Da)
White Maeng Da kratom: 3-7 grams (Doses higher than 7 grams cause intense sedation)
Always remember that the treatment should start on the smallest amount. To find your sweet spot, gradually increase the dose.

Note: This data has been taken from drug user forums and based on experimental values. They are not standard drug doses.

Cost effectiveness: Kratom vs. other medication
While getting treatment for pain, it should note what the duration of the treatment is. For chronic pain, you require a continuous supply of painkillers for years.

In a scenario like this, you need to get a medicine that is helping you with the pain and not crippling you financially.

Kratom, unlike other medicine, is very cheap and it can be found readily from online vendors and wholesalers.
You do not require a prescription for Kratom, neither do you need to see government agencies, or need to register for a pain management card.

If Kratom is used instead of other medication, you save up to 80% of your finances.

Summing up, Kratom is the best analgesic that one can go for. It’s readily available. It’s cheap, and it has almost zero side effects.

Hi Madmax.

You seem to be very knowledgeable about kratom so I'm posting my question to you.
I invite anyone to respond.

After taking kratom daily for almost a year, I find myself in a fearful place regarding what the kratom might be doing to my brain's perception of pain mechanism.

I've had severe fibromyalgia for 32 years. It's always tended to be localized to 1 or 2 locations.
Over the past couple months whenever the kratom is wearing off, I experience really extreme burning pain from head to foot that feels more systemic than coming from specific muscles being really tight.
The level of pain is so much higher than it ever used to be and no amount of resting diminishes it.

My fear is wondering if the kratom has lowered my pain threshold and effected how my brain produces pain signals.
Suddenly this week the kratom stopped working for 5-6 hours and now only works for 2-3 which has meant increasing the doses.

I'm really concerned that something not good is happening in my body and the kratom is playing a role in that.

Has anyone else experienced much greater pain when the kratom wears off than before they had ever tried kratom?
I had been on tramadol 50-100mg per day for 4 years but never experienced such severe pain like I do now when it would wear off, and never head to foot.

PS. The strains I find most helpful for pain are Red Bali and Red Hulu Kapua -I get both from Socal.

This sounds more like tolerance has developed which makes it even more important that you keep your doses the same. this has also happened to me.

I don't think Kratom can change your body's perception of pain any more than tramadol did. Stopping pain medication usually increases pain at first .. this is called rebound pain and the same can happen for Kratom - your body usually adjusts over time.

You description of the pain sounds more like what is characteristic of myofascial pain.

So then the question becomes what else are you doing to manage pain beside taking medication/herbs?

Have you done any research on how to manage myofascial pain?

Late edit*************

OK just re-read your post and you have had this for over 30 years so you probably know more about myofascial pain than I do.

Resting will not make it better, quite the contrary.

I concur with bomalley. I wouldn't think that Kratom could ever change your perception of pain. Just sounds like your Tolerance is going up.

Sounds like a Question for your Doctor. I would guess that Some kind of Pain Management like Physical Therapy & some Special Diet with your Kratom & Tramadol would help. Just a thought. I really don't know much about that. bomalley would know about this more than I would.

Thank you both.
I'm going to relax about this.
I know both of you have been active in this forum for a long time and I trust you
would be aware of people complaining that the kratom has caused them to experience more pain when it wears off than before ever using it, if people were reporting that.

For now I'm sticking to 3x/day even if it wears off sooner and I have to be in pain for an hour or so. So grateful that the kratom still works!! and much more effectively than tramadol ever did.

As for diet- what haven't I tried! I'm in the 8th week of super low lectin diet.
It promised the world but made no impact for me in terms of inflammation and pain.
I'm currently learning the adrenal reset diet. The problem is food shortages where I live in Venezuela. No chicken available for months. No free range eggs. no beef. occasional fish. No nuts. not good.
Doing protein from beans, hemp seeds, spirulina.
luckily vegetables available.

We all live in interesting times!

Hi.

You mentioned that white maeng da is super sedating.
I thought white strains were more energizing than red.
not true?

Do you think it might help me sleep?
I've tried a number of red strains at night and while they are relaxing and always pain relieing, they all give me too much energy and make it hard to fall asleep.

What would you suggest for bedtime and from what vendor?

many thanks for your support.

dove108 White MD always makes me sedated for some reason. It usually is energetic for most but for me it's really relaxing. It will be different for each individual. I would lean towards Red & Yellow strains for Sleep. I would suggest Yellow Sumatra, Red Borneo, Red Malay, Red Indo & Red Sumatra for sleeping but for the Best Results you will have to just Experiment with different Strains. Certain Green Strains can bring Sedation as well. You just have to find the right ones for you as well as the right dosage.

Have you tried other Herbs for your Pain. You could take a Break from Kratom & take other Herbs while you are not taking Kratom to get your Tolerance Down. Akuamma Seeds, White Willow Bark, Ginseng, Incarvillea sinensis, Kava are all good herbs to take for pain relief. Just some thoughts. :-?

Here is some info:

Everyone who has used kratom for a sustained period of time knows about its vast range of beneficial effects. While its use in pain relief and fighting opiate addiction are the most common, using kratom for sleep can be just as beneficial.

Those who suffer from insomnia, myself included, know how irritating it can often be. However, insomnia can cause effects which are much more detrimental than simple irritation, such as: poor mental function and motor control, poor mood, inability to handle stress, and, when sustained, it can even have a fairly negative impact on your physical health overall. For this reason, it’s important to find a good treatment before the negative impacts on health emerge.

Luckily, kratom has been a huge asset and improved the quality of life of many who suffer from insomnia or difficulty sleeping.

How it Works
Before getting into how it works, it is important to know what causes insomnia. By far the most common reason for insomnia is stress and anxiety, which often tend to emerge at night when unoccupied. There are other reasons for insomnia, such as a side effect of menopause, however, kratom seems to be fairly effective across the board for insomnia regardless of the cause.

Anxiety and Stress Relief
Because kratom is so effective at killing anxiety and stress, it is able to treat most individual’s insomnia by targeting the root causes. Without anxiety and stress, sleep tends to come much more naturally for most, and some even without insomnia or difficulty sleeping have reported that even the quality of their sleep has improved. In addition to improved sleep, who doesn’t want less stress and anxiety in their life?

Sedation
Kratom causes sedation, this in synergy with anxiety and stress relief often prove to be the 1-2 punch that knocks you out for the night. However, if you want sedation from kratom, it is essential you choose the right strain. If you choose strains incorrectly, you may find yourself having a harder time falling asleep. For this reason, we suggest you always try a strain first during the day to gauge its effects, and then use it for sleep. We will go in depth on how to effectively find the right strain of kratom later on in this article in order to ensure you make the ideal choice for your needs.

Physical Comfort
Because of the opiod family alkaloid 7-hydroxymitragynine, kratom can cause a general sense of physical comfort. Some users have described the feeling as being “wrapped in a warm blanket”. This alone can help contribute to helping you fall asleep, but combined with the above factors, it can have quite a positive impact.

How to Use Kratom for Sleep
In order to get good results from kratom for sleep, knowing a bit about kratom is essential. There are a few factors that can mean the difference between restful sleep and a difficult night. The factors are: Strains/Types, and dosage.

Strains and Veins
The most important factor when looking to use kratom for insomnia is choosing the correct type of kratom. For new users, this can be fairly tricky, as there is such a big variety of strains. For this reason, when sta rting we suggest you stay within these guidelines until you gain experience.

The best types of kratom for sleep are: Borneo strains, Indo strains, including Sumatra strains, Bali strain and red vein varieties of kratom. Both Borneo, Indo and Bali strains are among the most sedating types of kratom, and also have the most potential for anxiety and stress relief. Overall red veins are a very good choice, however, we urge you to avoid Thai and Maeng Da strains, even if they are red veins. The reason for this is that they are often quite stimulating and can have a counterproductive effect. White veins as well can be quite stimulating, and should often be avoided.

Dosage
Dosage is one of the trickier aspects of using kratom for sleep. Every individual is quite different in this regard, and may need a different dosage in order to achieve the best results. Typically, the required dosage for sleep is a little bit higher than usual, though some respond exceptionally to lower dosages. For this, we have compiled a small table of suggested dosages for sleep.

Light – 2 to 3 grams
Moderate – 3 to 5 grams
High – 6 to 7 grams
When first using kratom for sleep, as with many other uses of this plant, we suggest that you begin low and work upward to find the right dosage. It should be noted that each strain or batch may have a different ideal dose, so testing is highly suggested.
