I am on day three ct. Surgery next wed. I called the dr today to let them know about the kratom use. They didnt know what it was and said they didnt think it would be a problem. I have plans this weekend that require me to not feel like I'm feeling now, and with the dr saying it shouldn't be a problem, I'm thinking about using up until surgery. Has anyone else used up until suregery/general anesthesia?

Hey there Goe...

My girlfriend utilizes Kratom daily for energy and mood boost and a few months ago had surgery to repair a hernia, unfortunately the surgeon or for some other reason .. she needs to go back to the operating room!!

But that aside she used right up to the night before ...everything went well, I believe they needed to give her a slightly bigger dose of pain meds perhaps due to the Kratom, or because of her chemistry..idk... after 3 days on pain meds and no Kratom , 3d day she stopped the meds and resumed her Kratom regimen... which she felt was utterly more relieving than the meds were .

So ... everyone’s different but for my girlfriend taking it seemed to not pose any problems.

Good luck and hope you heal well

Take care

I needed extra pain meds during a colonoscopy, so I know it affects pain med tolerance, in my case.

I don’t know what to recommend, but thanks for the good question. Hopefully more members will weigh in on this.

It screwed up my kratom tolerance getting off the meds administered during the procedure. I’d try to utilize stem n vein during the switch. If you can find it, and it’s good for HER metabolism.

You’re sweet to inquire about her and I wish her a speedy, worry free recovery!

I've heard from people who had kratom up until the night before the surgery and had no problems.

Kratom is only a partial mu-agonist. The stuff they use at the hospital is much stronger and works in a different manner to put a patient OUT.

I don't think, from the conversations I've heard, that moderate kratom use the night before (or even a little the morning of the surgery) would have any significant effect on the anesthesia.

Kratom is fine to use up to the day before surgery. I had a double mastectomy on January 14 and used everyday leading up to the surgery, including the day before surgery and I had no problem. My surgery ended up being nearly 4 hours long so I was under anesthesia for a long time and had no problems.

I recently had oral surgery under conscious sedation (not general anesthesia) and used the day before like I usually do.

You may need higher doses of pain medication after surgery - I know I did - BUT Kratom use did not affect anything.

There is no contra-indication to the use of narcotics in advance of surgery, so I do not see why Kratom would be a problem.

Thank you for all the responses. I've already lost about 5 pounds and didnt sleep at all last night so I'm thinking it's better to go in there "normal" rather than malnutrition and possibly still in withdrawals

Being in withdrawals might pose problems also, as it affects EVERY part of the body. Should be fine for anesthesia, but your BP and stuff might cause a stink and they might insist on more “tests”.

I know. Sounds silly. But it happened to me. It took me a while to realize it was just withdrawal and those vital signs eventually calmed to normal.

When is the surgery?

This coming wed. Stopped ct on tues. And just dosed again for the first time since 15 min ago so I'll be doing this up until surgery. I havent been eating, and been lightheaded when I stand up, getting no sleep at all last night. Like I said I think it's better to go in "normal" rather going through a ct withdrawal right before. I've read alot of reports of people dosing up until the no eating/drinking phase and managed fine. Only bad reports where pain after and haven to bump up the pain meds during anesthesia.

I have a colonoscopy in about 6 weeks - assuming I don't find another reason to re-schedule it. lol

Do I even want to know how you discovered you needed more pain meds DURING your procedure?? The idea concerns me. Half joking, half serious. :)
