Hello ILK! So the other day i was researching about gastric emptying, out of pure curiosity, that is how much time food stays in the stomach and how it is absorbed by the digestive tract. And so i had an insight about kratoms absorbtion: as soon as we put something in our mouth the taste is recognized, saliva is produced and a cascade of biological events starts which include the release of stomach acid and gastric juices to break this down. This doesn't happen if we just drink water. So by tasting kratom maybe we are helping our body knowing what it ingests and be ready to accept it. Maybe thats part of why toss and wash works better than capsules and that attempting to mask the taste can result in reduced efficacy.

Also there are only a few substances that are well absorbed in the stomach, alcohol is one of them. Im wondering if kratom is, not sure.

Feel free to add to the reflection...

Kratom is mostly insoluble fiber

According to this(below- difference between soluble/insoluble fiber) insoluble fiber helps food pass quickly through the stomach.

Soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. It is also found in psyllium, a common fiber supplement. Some types of soluble fiber may help lower risk of heart disease.

Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables, and whole grains. It adds bulk to the stool and appears to help food pass more quickly through the stomach and intestines.

This has nothing to do with constipation issues its not the fiber content its the Kratom alkaloids that slow the intestines. But I feel Kratom passes through the stomach quickly with toss and wash. I can see when taking capsules Kratom could be less effective.
I can also see some people that have tolerance issues might have digestive issues they need to deal with that prevent good absorption and its not the kratom itself. Which is why we always suggest keep hydrated and eat healthier.

Well those are my reflections I guess :-?

I have insomnia so i end up reading a lot, i came across this: www.mdpi.com/1420-3049/20/3/4915/pdf

It is compatible with your thoughts Nan. They were using pure mitragynine so its different from T&W but it suggests mitragynine is absorbed in the small intestine after a short passage in the stomach where it can be degraded by acid. A mix with lipids prior to ingestion would protect the alkaloid and increase its solubility.

That reminds me of how omega 3s are encapsulated with enteric coating so to have them released in the small intestines for the same reasons of degradation in low PH and the absorption actually happening in the small intestines.

Im curious and will try letting sit my dose in warm MTC oil for a couple hours prior to taking it

Medium Chain Triglyceride? That sounds like a misspelled acronym.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-chain_trigl...de#Dietary_relevance

Dietary relevance

Molecular weight analysis[3] of milk from different species showed that while milk fats from all studied species were primarily composed of long-chain fatty acid (16 and 18 carbons long), approximately 10–20% of the fatty acids in milk from horses, cows, sheep, and goats were medium-chain fatty acids.

Some studies have shown that MCTs can help in the process of excess calorie burning, thus weight loss.[4][5][6] MCTs are also seen as promoting fat oxidation and reduced food intake.[7] MCTs have been recommended by some endurance athletes and the bodybuilding community.[8] While health benefits from MCTs seem to occur, a link to improved exercise performance is inconclusive.[7] A number of studies back the use of MCT oil as a weight loss supplement, but these claims are not without conflict, as about an equal number found inconclusive results.[9]
Medical relevance

MCTs passively diffuse from the GI tract to the portal system (longer fatty acids are absorbed into the lymphatic system) without requirement for modification like long-chain fatty acids or very-long-chain fatty acids. In addition, MCTs do not require bile salts for digestion. Patients who have malnutrition, malabsorption or particular fatty-acid metabolism disorders are treated with MCTs because MCTs do not require energy for absorption, use, or storage.

Medium-chain triglycerides are generally considered a good biologically inert source of energy that the human body finds reasonably easy to metabolize. They have potentially beneficial attributes in protein metabolism, but may be contraindicated in some situations due to a reported tendency to induce ketogenesis and metabolic acidosis.[10] However, there is other evidence demonstrating no risk of ketoacidosis or ketonemia with MCTs at levels associated with normal consumption,[5] and that the moderately elevated blood ketones can be an effective treatment for epilepsy.[11]

Due to their ability to be absorbed rapidly by the body, medium-chain triglycerides have found use in the treatment of a variety of malabsorption ailments. MCT supplementation with a low-fat diet has been described as the cornerstone of treatment for Waldmann disease.[12] MCTs are an ingredient in some specialised parenteral nutritional emulsions in some countries.[13][14] Studies have also shown promising results for epilepsy through the use of ketogenic dieting.[11][15][16]

I have been taking my Kratom dose with a teaspoon of Coconut oil for months now. For me it noticeably potentiates the Kratom, at first the results were undesirable because I got slight nausea, it helps make my normal dose more potent. More kratom for me does not mean better my body's own ceiling effect does not allow me to increase my dose, I just feel sick not relieved. I have adjusted and feel it helps with tolerance- still same dose after more than 2 years taking kratom.

Turmeric(also helps with tolerance) absorption is better when taken with a high saturated fat and pepper.

If you try a high saturated fat, MCT. Start small, it does increase the metabolism, you might initially get a headache. Work your way up to a table spoon. I still cannot do a tablespoon.
I tried a teaspoon of coconut oil on empty stomach before my morning workout, try this you will notice a difference. I now put it my tea and coffee.

Don & Richard- this is my easier to understand go to www.healthline.com/nutrition/mct-oil-benefits for us peeps who need a little hand holding. speaking of hand holding, Don- I hope your sweetheart is doing better, sending love.
