I think that the labelling of extracts might be a bit misleading.

I found on another website that a 30g of Red Thai leaf = 10g of Red extract.

This extract was labelled 30X ... now I would interpret that to mean it is concentrated 30 times with the X being a symbol for "times".

It appears however, that it means 30:10 with the X being symbolic for 10?

If this is the case then it is NO WONDER I could not get the extract to work...I was not taking enough!

Well at least I can be thankful I did not take enough to push my tolerance through the roof! However, this was the first time, on any vendor website, that I had seen these numbers explained.

With this new found knowledge, I guess I go back to the experiment!

I have both 30:1 and a 50:1 extracts in my stash.

My experience summary is this: extract has powerful analgesic properties. Close to zero mood lift (I tried each color). For SHORT TERM PAIN, extract is perfect. But. You must rely on extract AFTER THAT to continue to benefit from the analgesic properties in extracts. Powder alone has zero effect for approx 12 - 20 hours. Best to go with stem n vein while gently easing back onto powder.

Extracts are for GOOD PHYSICAL PAIN RELIEF. They serve a purpose like nothing else.

I prefer plain leaf or even an enhanced leaf for more rounded benefits. But the extract is in my purse for EMERGENCIES and it will be an emergency if I ever need it.

I appreciate all the powder does for me EVEN MORE after trying the extracts. I have NOT tried the liquid extracts or tinctures. I assume they are similar, but I’m wrong often! Please post why YOU like extracts. Great discussion!

My extracts are powdered resin.

I really do not notice ANY effect from Kratom anymore EXCEPT pain relief. Regular use of reds will sometimes result in sedation but not usually.

So lack of mood lift or energy etc from resins does not concern me at all...I just want pain relief.

I am also planning a trip next summer so I am hoping to have several alternatives for pain management as I cruise around the Mediterranean Sea (YEAH ME!). Otherwise I would have to take my entire Kratom cupboard with me as I will be gone over 2 weeks!

I hear you! I’m only 3 blocks from home while dog/house sitting for 7 weeks total. I had a full brown shopping bag PLUS some strains outside that bag. Even to stay overnight, I carry all of my kratom choices. Otherwise I’m a light traveler (except for the inevitable constipation that ANY CHANGE OF LOCATION brings. LOL)

EDIT: The above comment was humor. I am aware of the preventative measures discussed in prior threads regarding various ways to keep the pipes clean. LOL .

Bo- did you ever find out information on incarvillea sinensis from the Chinese medicine specialist?
We are similar at least in the fact that during the course of the day we have different types of pain we managed throughout the day with the goal of function.

I will use icarvillea sinensis in between Kratom doses. When the relief from Kratom wears off and I want to space my kratom doses apart I will take incarvillea sinensis. It helps me with function. I can get through a task like cooking dinner and lighter house work without complaint. It has about a 30 minute kick in time and almost 4 hours relief. I knew it worked because when it wears off ugh the pain hits again. Chuchuhuasi Extract is another botanical I use alternatively they are very similar.

Laurie;

When ever I go on a trip my bowels pack up and go to Florida! Even worse with Kratom! so yes I hear you too!

I prepare my daily supplements in a small plastic ziplock type bag, so for my trip, I am a little nervous about going through customs with all of my "tea" and supplement supply for 2 weeks in little baggies... but taking all the bottles would require more luggage!

Nan70:

NO I did not hear back from my TCM regarding the icarvillea sinensis, so I will be asking her about that on my next appointment coming up soon. Will fire off an email to her today to remind her. I do have some powdered Chuchuhuasi and I have tried making tea as per a youtube BUT nada.....haven't used it since.

The really good news is that things are improving with the osteopathy treatments but it is up and down. The previous manipulation lasted 5 days and the osteopath was out of town so I had to go for 10 days with increased pain until she got back. (These are the kinds of situations where I need something extra).

I am now on day 4 from the last treatment and things are holding, so I am waiting with bated breath to get through the next few days with my regular activities.

As I have said before, if I could just get to a place where things are STABLE I could manage pain much better, BUT they always seem to be changing and I rationalize by saying that at least I am not stuck!

AND when one set of problems (my back) starts to get better another set of problems appear.
I am absolutely convinced that the major surgery I had 45 years ago is at the root of this, and there is scar tissue inside me pulling things out of place. A naturopath convinced me to go to my doc for an ultrasound so doc's visit is on the calendar this week. Even though it is FREE, I HATE going to the doctor simply beause we do not speak the same language. I am all over natural therapies and he ....well not so much! At least I will get an untrasound out of it (don't have to pay for that either - GAWD I love my country!).

Thankfully my trip is not until May of 2019 so we have plenty of time to find out what is going on and get it straightened out (literally!).

I should be even stronger by then too!

Looks like I really needed to vent this morning....thanks for the opportunity!...BUT now I have to take my morning Kratom dose and get off to Sunday morning Yoga.

I should be feeling a lot better in about 40 minutes! - I do love my ILK family!

The “x” denotes the pairing measurement of how much Kratom was used to make the extract. In the case of 15x, it means that there were 15 grams of pure Kratom leaves utilized in the said process. The measurement can be as little 10 grams or high as 50 grams and so forth. However, the 15x is more generally accepted as a standard and has become the most used measurement when doing the extraction process.

Thank you..however, that information is only helpful if we also know how much extract is derived from that measurement.

I can select the amount of extract I want, anywhere from 5 gm up to a kilo at some vendors. So if I select 100 gms of a 50X extract how do I know how much plain leaf went into make that?

I think this is very important information that vendors are NOT supplying to us.

We all know that tolerance can and DOES happen and being able to control the amount you are taking is important in trying to control for tolerance.

My vendors are going to be hearing from me about this if they do not have this information on their websites.

So the reply from the vendor is :

It means that 50 kilos of high quality Maeng Da is used to make one kilo of extract.

This means it is a 50:1 ratio and 100 mgs of extract should be equal to 5 gms of powdered leaf (100 X 50 = 5000 mgs or 5 grams.)

And the mystery continues.....

I wrote back to the vendor:
Thank you... so it is a 50:1 ratio then?

1 gm of extract would be equal to 50 gms of powdered leaf?

100mgs would be equal to 5 gms of powdered leaf?

Reply:

It does not mean that 1g of extract equals 50g of powdered leaf in potency at all. It just means 50g was used to make 1g of extract.

The potency is different and not as strong as 50g.

So basically they are saying it is a 50:1 ratio BUT it is not EQUAL ie the 1 gm of extract will not have the same effects as 50 gms of plain leaf becasue it is not as potent.

it feels like I have come full circle because that is where I started!!
