TOPIC: Magnesium

Ok i have a couple questions about Mag, and st johns wort. I am wanting to make sure i keep my tolerance low as i have read others experience a tolerance and it does not sound like something i want to do lol. So i purchased both of these. My question is how do i use the magnesium and st johns to keep my tolerance low? are they potentiators meaning i need to take less kratom for a dose? Or that taking them helps your current dose to continue working? I know to take breaks and intend to do so. But i still want to take precautions as i really enjoy what kratom does for me and would like to keep it that way. I would like to hear from someone who uses these or has in the past. :)

Hi, levonne90: I don't know what St. John's Wort has to do with potentiating kratom. It is a useful herb for fighting depression usually, but I've never heard that it makes kratom more potent.

The magnesium, too, is puzzling. I take the citrate form every night before bed, because it's good for your nerves and helps you sleep -- and most of all, it keeps us regular. It counteracts the tendency of kratom to slow bowel movements down some. I take about 1600 mg each day and it works great. But, again, I've never heard that it potentiates kratom.

The stuff that does help make the kratom work better is soaking it in lemon juice or any other citrus juice. I mash mine up in a glass of a vitamin drink that is citrus-based and it seems to help.

Another thing is black pepper, and cayenne pepper, TURMERIC is very good. Picralima nitida is another thing that strengthens and lengthens the kratom effects (plus it has its own pain relieving effects). Cat's Claw is another herb that helps at night and is a pain reliever/muscle relaxer.

Keeping your dose the same, not trying to keep having a euphoric experience by increasing your doses, you shouldn't need to develop a tolerance. Another key is to change strains frequently, so it keeps your body more sensitive to the effects. If you prefer green vein kratom, switch from Green Thai to Green Malay to Green Borneo when you feel your losing the noticeable effects.

The same goes for the red vein strains you might use at night. You'll get the hang of it.

Hope this helps.

Ty for the advice and information. I am going to try the mag in the evening as you are using it, might need a smaller amount though as i have not noticed kratom to slow my metabolism much at all. But i eat all day even when taking kratom. I recently changed my kratom schedule. i changed from three to four doses, i keep the dose the same and sometimes less than normal since i still get the effects they just dont last as long. And i still space them four to five hours apart. i did this so i could use red in the evening for sleep due to some symptoms from quitting the pain pills a couple weeks back when i started kratom. But i find this also makes me need a smaller amount for the same effects. Will that build my tolerance?

Also i have found the citrus juices to really help with kratom i stir my kratom into some orange juice and add some lemon juice to it, then drink it and chase it with more Orange juice :) some people have told me that vitamin c pills help the duration but honestly my method works good enough i dont feel the need to try and make it stronger. lengthening the experience would be great so i can cut back down to three doses but, i am happy wit the current effects i just wish the relief it gives me lasted longer. But it is still a life saver regardless. (the length of effects still last the same as always anywhere from 2-4 hrs.)

You're welcome. Smaller doses are, I believe, a good idea for reducing the possibility of developing a tolerance. We have a saying in the kratom community: "Less is more."

Switching strains from time to time is handy also for preventing tolerance, as I mentioned. I've found some strains affect me much more than others, so after a while, you will know which ones work best for you. Just keep rotating them.

Jumping into extracts and blends of extract and plain kratom powder is tempting, but can quickly develop tolerance, when you feel yourself getting "stale". Some people need extracts and "fusions" for extreme pain flares, but for most of us, I feel it's best to avoid these or use only rarely.

Magnesium is something most people are deficient in, and your gut will tell you what is too much, so it's hard to go wrong with it.

Turmeric, either plain spice or the neutraceutical "extract" is a good potentiator, but so is Picralima nitida, which the Pharmacy Dropout on this forum carries at a very reasonable price. If Jeffrey has it in caps that would be my preference. That stuff tastes rank!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Kratom is pretty simple, with a little knowledge about it and some common sense.

I took your advice on the mag, i am taking 1000mg, at night i am not noticing any effects yet. But my normal dose is still working so maybe i am and dont know it lol. I also ordered some tumeric extract from Socal Herbal Remedies. Does anyone know how to use this? do i just take it with kratom and take a smaller amount of kratom? Also i ordered some Picralima nitida seeds. And Vit. C capsules. I am going to experiment with these trying to potentiate stem and vein during kratom breaks. And also taking breaks and seeing how fast i can reset my tolerance. Hopefully I can report back with good news or advice. I am not really noticing much of a tolerance, I just figured trying to reset my tolerance every two weeks couldnt hurt anything lol. The only tolerance i am noticing at all is that sometimes the whites do not give quite as much of an energy boost as when i started and sometimes do not last as long, But other times they do so i think that is just how much i ate prior and factors like that.

I was wrong lol, Thank you Kemppaul for your advice on the mag. I took 1000mg, last night before bed and this morning noticed my morning dose was much better than the last couple mornings. It just took longer than normal to kick in and lasted much longer, And i actually only took a small dose compared to most mornings, my morning dose is always more than the rest of the time to get me moving in the morning. So apparently i have built a slight tolerance that i hadn't noticed. I also took 3000mg of vit C this morning with my dose this well for the first time. So one or both of your suggestions worked great One or the other has made both doses today much nicer than i remember the last couple days being. I will continue this through the week until my S&V gets here then i will take a little break.

I have read about Picralima nitida here on the forums, could you give me more specific explanation as to how to use it correctly and what to expect? And the tumeric as well? i ordered both. TY in advance :)

I'm glad to hear the magnesium seems to be helping with potentiating the kratom. I had never connected that with magnesium, but you may be right. I really don't find tolerance much of an issue, as long as one doesn't get in the habit of "chasing the euphoria" by increasing the dose. That doesn't work for a number of reasons, but I sense that you won't fall into that trap, anyway.

Vitamin C is one of the key ingredients in citrus juices, so it makes sense that it helps potentiate the kratom. Another factor that may be responsible for your better kratom effects may be that you are sleeping more soundly as a result of taking the magnesium. When I sleep a good 8 hrs, I rarely want a nap during the day and I also have a better response to the kratom I take.

I have only tried a sample of Picralima nitida, so my knowledge is limited, but it did seem to strengthen and lengthen the duration of the kratom buzz. I plan to get some more. I would just experiment with the dose, staying on the conservative side. For the turmeric, one or two 500mg caps or a heaping teaspoon of the spice should be sufficient. It is not toxic and extremely beneficial, from all that I've read, so I wouldn't worry about the dose.

Be sure & take the Magnesium at least 30 minutes before your Dose of Kratom. The Magnesium seems to both Potentiate & helps reduce your Tolerance. St. John's Wart is mainly for Tolerance. You shouldn't have to take as much Kratom when you take St. John's Wart. Be sure & to take it at half an hour before each dose. Vitamin C & White Grapefruit Juice are great for Prolonging the effects of Kratom.

RN here. As already stated, many people are deficient in magnesium. I blame the western diet (sodas, sweets, junk food, coffee ect). Magnesium works by helping metabolize carbs and proteins and is required for the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. So magnesium helps to metabolize kratom more efficiently. If you want to take it with your kratom, I suggest ingesting your magnesium 45-60mins before taking kratom. I can't stress enough how much magnesium NEEDS to already be in your system before taking kratom. I take mines with my cimetidine and turmeric at the same time. Works wonders. That being said, magnesium isn't something to mess with. It's very important in helping the balance between calcium and potassium (which cancels each other out) so taking magnesium supplements can mess up your calcium and/or potassium levels (both being REALLY bad!) I heavily suggest taking a multivitamin. However, when it comes to magnesium supplements, your stomach will tell you when you had enough. With all that said l, DO NOT take more than it says so on the bottle. Those instructions are there for a reason! I hope that helps. B)

Not sure if I'm too late to comment but...I have taken magnesium at a potentiator. It truly does work. I take magnesium (maybe a couple times a week) right before i goto bed, wake up in the morning and only have to take about 2/3 of my regular dose to feel the same effects and it lasts longer than usual. That's just what I've experienced though! a spoon of peanut butter also makes kratom amazing. :) cheers
