Hi,

I just tried my first Kratom, and the effects were a bit disappointing. I'm 6'5", and around 215 pounds. I took, roughly, 3.5 grams of green Daeng Ma from Sacred Kratom, and mixed it in a glass of orange juice. I noticed a mild sedative effect, although, oddly, I seemed more mentally alert, similar to what drinking a cup of coffee would produce. There was really no euphoria to speak of, and the pain relief was very minimal. It's now been about 4 1/2 hours, and all I feel is some mild drowsiness. Did I do something wrong? Should I try a larger dose? A different vendor/type of Kratom? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

What effects were you expecting? Kratom produces mild effects such as an increase in energy or relaxation/sedation depending on the strain, person, and or dosage, and some pain relief with red strains usually producing the most. The euphoria is more of a feeling of well being or overall relaxation.

I think you would get more pain relief from using a red strain.

Not quite sure what you were expecting but it seems as if the results were dead on.

Mitragyna Speciosa is in the same family as the coffee plant and has about the same strength. If you took a larger dose you would just get more of what you already experienced BUT when you keep escalating the dose then you develop tolerance. Best to keep it low.

Perhaps if we knew what your expectations were we could give a more informed response.

Thanks. I had been watching Youtube videos and reading product reviews, many of which gave over the top praise for the euphoric and pain killing benefits of Kratom. One, apparently, experienced Youtube poster, in particular, promoted the green strains over the red, which is why, in part, I went with the green Maeng Da. I guess I was just expecting more dramatic effects based upon some of the hype I was reading/viewing. I've been on opioids for years, as a result of two brain surgeries, and would welcome a safe, but effective, alternative. Thanks again.

Natural therapies will NOT give you the same effect as pharmaceutical chemicals. They act more naturally restoring a balance and helping you to feel more like the real you. Most pharmaceutical chemicals take away the feeling of the real you...that is why we use them...to escape!

Now that you have a more realistic expectation of what to expect, you should now be looking for the strains that help you the best. If you are looking for pain relief definitely the reds.

You will need to experiment with dosing to find the "sweet spot" that gives you enough pain relief without negative side effects like nausea.

I need at least 4.5 Gms of a red in order to get pain relief. BUT I think I could have kept that lower if I had a scale when I started and was measuring precisely. It is really easy to let the dose get away on you if you do not have a scale. 100mg ofkratom powder is smaller than your pinky fingernail.

AND just like opioids you can develeop a tolerance so you have to manage the dosing.

But you are off to a good start.

Thanks, that was very informative. I wish I had known that reds were better for pain relief. I have about 1/2 doz. different greens coming. Can you recommend a good red and vendor, or is that against the rules? Thanks again.

HELVIUS:

I live in Canada and do not order from American vendors so cannot help you there BUT at the top of this page click on VENDORS and you will find the vetted vendors for ILK. Best to stick with those that have gone through the vetting process here I think. All of the vetted vendors are committed to providing good quality product to the Kratom community and will help you in any way they can.

Start with small sample sizes so you can try them out. You do not want to have large amounts of strains that do nothing for you.

Red Bali, Red Borneo, Red Vein Thai, Red Maeng Da, Red Bentuangie are my favourites for pain relief. So start with 4 of those and see how it goes.

If you are currently taking opiates do NOT take Kratom and an opiate together but rather substitute one of your opiate doses with Kratom.

BTW...the greens you have will come in handy later, once you find your way, so that money has not been wasted.

I had a similar experience. The hype on YouTube is annoyingly wrong. As you've already been told, the effects are subtle....similar to a cup of coffee. Experiment more and more and you'll find some stuff you like that helps you.
