Yesterday my husband and I started with green malay. We started very low at 1.5g. Neither of us felt anything after a couple of hours. He didn't want to take anymore that day but I took another .5 g. An hour and 15 minutes later I felt little light headed but that was it. No real pain relief of good mood.

Later that evening I took 2 g of yellow bali which is supposed to be like a red strain. Nothing. No relaxation or pain relief or anything.

Today I took 2.5 g and my husband took 2.0 g of the malay again. We still didn't really feel any different. I did get a little nauseated though. And that's a low dose even for me since 2.0g did nothing.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else when starting? I'm a little nervous about increasing the dose as I don't want to get nauseated again even though it was only slight nausea taken care of with some gingerale.

We are taking it mostly for pain and energy. We are not withdrawing off of narcotics.

Thanks for your help.

you are not likely going to get pain relief AND energy in the same strain.

Best to pick one ie of the two desired objectives so ask yourself which is MOST important?

If you pick pain then use reds only, trying different strains and doses until you get the desired result. You know you can tolerate 2 gms so start there. It will take at least one hour for the alkaloids to hit your system and bring on the full effects of pain relief. It is absorbed faster if your stomach is empty.

IF energy is more important, then try some greens or even whites, repeating the dose and increasing the amount until you get what you want. Be careful though with whites...some can be quite energizing.

In the beginning, is not unusual for people to say that "nothing happened", but this is usually just a simple dose issue or perhaps tolerance. With your husband using opiates he no doubt has already developed some tolerance so his sweet spot might be different than yours. Because of the possible gastrointestinal effects for too large a dose, it is best to start low as you have done, and increase the dose from there.

There are some reds that are a bit uplifting....Red Vein Thai and Red Bali can create a bit of an uplift in energy as the alkaloids hit your system, but then afterwards when the sedating ones take over, there is a nice calming down. I find these two varieties great for morning doses when pain relief is most important.

Keep going on the big Kratom experiment and remember....Kratom is about a strong as coffee. If the alkaloids go to work you should notice something, but don't expect anything dramatic (unless you take too much - that is unpleasant but not harmful).

Kratom effects are subtle so often it is the absence of withdrawal (not your case) or the management of pain that are the most noticeable effects for a large majority of users.

The more experience you have with Kratom, the easier it is to notice the effects as well, simply because you know what you are looking for!

Thanks, Bev.

I thought the reds were mostly for night so I was avoiding it during the day. Don't want to get too sleepy or lazy. What about mixing a red with a white or green for pain control and energy? You may have mentioned that before. I don't have any white and I really don't have any red. I got the yellow bali because I was told by EC-Bonnicals that it would be similar to a red strain.

I appreciate your responses to all of us on the forum.

He is very reluctant to tell me what does what because of the FDA, so I never know what to order if it's something not named the same thing somewhere else.

Also, white, green and red are the main strains and I know basically the difference. Why do some mention yellow and gold? What should I expect from them or where can I look for these answers.

I may try again tonight with my yellow bali and go up by .5 g. I do worry about the nausea I felt with the malay at such a low dose. I will continue to experiment. I guess it's normal to be disappointed when one can't get what they need right away without trying all kinds of doses and strains.

Oh, one more thing. If I can tolerate 2.0 g of malay or red, that means I can use that as a guide with all strains?

Thanks again.

Red Borneo has the highest concentration of the pain relieving alkaloids if you can find any available that should form the foundation of your Kratom cupboard.

I have some yellows that work like reds however, I have never had much success with Gold Bali - A big nothing for me.

A lot of this is really about experimenting to find out what works for you.

I cannot remember if I posted my little handout of the different effects for the various strains...Did you get that?

YES...just drop it down a bit for the first time you try a white...just to be safe.

Ok, thanks. That was my thought, especially with whites.

Today I ate breakfast first (to prevent the nausea I got yesterday) and I took 3 g of super green kali at 9 a.m. Just now at 10:13 I started feeling a little light headed. To be honest I don't like the feeling. I hope it will pass. So far it seems I either get light headed or feel nothing. I know I need to experiment but I really hate this feeling I have right now. I hope it's temporary before it kicks in with energy, etc. I know green malay is supposed to be energizing and take away pain. So far none of that either, but I was only at 2.5g yesterday. I also get hot and sweaty for no reason. I'm feeling warm and sweaty now and it's not hot here. Darn it. I hope I'm to one of those who just gets unwanted side effects. :(

I read about red borneo yesterday and may get some. I need to try a white maeng da too to see what the big deal is. I didn't get the handout but would love to have it. I feel kind of icky right now. It's been six minutes since the super green kali kicked in (3g) and it's not pleasant. I feel lightheaded and almost dizzy.

I have been on Percocet for 4 years. 2 knee replacements on same knee and a back fusion. All this in 3 years. I decided to try Kratom after trying pot (I had medical card), it was useless. Came across Kratom and it has been life saving. I use Red Bali powder, 4 grams. I mix it with vanilla almond milk to mask flavor. Pain totally gone for about 6 hours. I’m on week 4 and never took another Percocet since first try with Kratom. No withdrawal no side affects. Hope you find your sweet spot.

Usually a SUPER strain though not "enhanced" is so labelled because it tests higher for mitragynine content. So you have probably have just taken too much of that strain.

All Kratom strains have pain relieving alkaloids but the reds have the highest concentration, so you should be able to get pain relief with lower doses.

I will post my handout here for you, plantsower, but I do not have it on this computer (Still learning how to use the cloud - not quite there yet.) so check back later.

Will post later.
