Hi, I am new to Kratom. I learned about it randomly on the internet and started researching it. Thankfully I do not have any pain or addiction issues.

My mom passed in June and I have been seriously depressed since then to the point of not wanting to get out of bed some days. I do not want to take any prescriptions. I have tried other herbs like St. John’s Wort and Kava Kava with minimal results. Can Kratom help with depression? Any advice on what kind and where to get started?

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, Peaches412!

I use it for depression, I also use kanna, a botanical SNRI. The two BARELY keep me going. You would probably benefit, but it’s quite subtle. My depression CAUSES pain, so it helps with THAT.

Your situation may best be handled by a kind medical professional of your choice (online if necessary) because you probably need something stronger in the short term, then come back here as you wean off the meds from a medical professional.

I’m considering quitting my botanicals for that same reason.

The good news: you CAN DO BOTH! Kratom does not interact with antidepressants. Kanna IS an antidepressant (very mild/subtle/also cannot be over dosed) which would preclude you from being able to take an antidepressant.

In summary, you really need to treat YOURSELF WELL by getting to a dr SOMEHOW about this.

THEN COME BACK HERE and we’ll get you going on kratom if you’d still like to try it.

That’s what I would tell a family member or do myself.

Kratom is a mild depression relief/pain relief plant related to the coffee plant. It does not CURE the causes of symptoms.

Hope this helps. Others may differ in opinion, so watch this thread for more ideas on how to proceed. I so sympathize with your HUGE LOSS

Thank you. I may have to if things don’t get better. I am against ssris for many reasons and want to do something natural -but may have to try it if things don’t get better. I have a job and small children so can’t lay around and grieve.

Welcome Peaches-
Read through the guide
www.ilovekratom.com/forum/kratom-discuss...-oldies#.W5vETej26Un

I use kratom for pain and reducing anxiety(results of pain management). I noticed Kratom helps prevent my cycle of bouts with mild depression.
I have read about others who use kratom to help get through depression but its not my personnel experience so my advice is limited.
I have read that White and Greens strains are the most useful. Read as much as you can to help you decide.

Seeing a medical professional doesn't mean they will prescribe medicine but you need to have all the options available to you.

I am very sorry for your loss and hope things turn around for the better soon.
