As Michele mentioned earlier I also like the taste. :-bd

I’m trying, as Rob has already been doing, to see if I can determine type by taste.

Most have an earthy vegetable taste to me. I like adding it to my black coffee. It makes it taste like an energy drink.
There have been some that have a aspirin like - chemical taste. Some also cause numbing of the tongue.

I smell each of the batches I receive. Most have a good smell but I noticed some that have a chemical or ink smell that I don’t understand.

I need to do a more scientific study and document it. :-?

I’m curious if you might agree that the “chemical” smell is from the sealing on the bags? I’m super sensitive to that smell on some vendors product and don’t notice it on others - yet everyone i purchase from provides a sturdy seal.

I had one vendor product I could not bring myself to taste the leaf more than once because it was so strong of a chemical smell. Other friends who had equally sealed bags were FINE with it and enjoyed the product?!

I thought my sense of smell is sensitive, but an entire group of locals spent a weekend online (NEXTDOOR) complaining about the smell of dryer sheets in the air! Talk about big problems!
Hahahaha

I practically had to be sedated to not suggest they GO OUTSIDE and take note: we live by the ocean!

Some people are seriously allergic/sensitive, too, so I’m very glad I’m just ABLE to smell onions someone else ate 8 hours ago! Haha. Fortunately I don’t become ill from it!

Hi Laurie,

Iced tea with some lemon and sugar sounds like it would be very good. I enjoy steeping the crushed leaves in a very gentle rolling boil. I get a nice copper hue after about 25-30 minutes. I then pour the liquid off into a wicker tea strainer and sip the tea hot. Again, the taste was very nice. I don't necessarily associate bitter with being undesirable. In certain things such as grapefruit, beer, dark chocolate and some black teas, its a critical taste component which is very enjoyable. I'm finding the same to be true with kratom crushed leaf tea. Anyway, just my experience and thought I'd share.
BTW Tiggermanscrat- I have also had that numbing of the tongue sensation with certain strains. Odd experience.

I also was thinking the smell might be the bags so I spoon some out and smell it on the spoon.

My wife and I are both sensitive to smells and we get migraines from heavy perfume on people or dryer sheets when we’re out walking. :woohoo:

In the past we have had to leave the movies, restaurants, and church because someone was wearing heavy perfume.

We were made for each other. Neither of us wear perfume or cologne and we only buy fragrance free products. :-bd

Userzero, I think I have read other members post they have had numb tongue during toss and wash with some batches.

Maybe it means a higher content of a certain alkaloid?

I have not ever noticed that effect on the tongue. Interesting. I do get that effect from another famous herb that also starts with “k”, kava.

Howdy Laurie and Tigger! Good evening everyone. I read Lauries' suggestion about the bags? I never thought about much but I just smelled one and it smells pretty strong to me. But I have Crohn's also. Whenever my immune system gets to killing on itself my smell gets hyper sensitive! The chemicals that are "proprietary" in soaps, perfumes' etc... should be required by federal standards to be listed. There are some very toxic chemicals in perfumes, and even our clothing.

Also, please forgive me but I forget the threads. Laurie? You mentioned plantation grown and wild grown? I've noticed the wild grown is much stronger on 3 red Kratoms I have tried. I'm trying to think how to word this. Reliable? Forgive me but words are failing me at the moment. Brain freeze.

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and a safe week. And blessings to you all.

That “reliability” is the reward for your test dummy experiments! You’re getting an idea what works for you and what may not - that’s awesome!

The interesting thing is - that can change over time! You’ll probably develop “tolerance” to those with repeated use. It’s unavoidable when used for daily pain management.

Keep those other bags to try again when you have a disappointing response to those WILD ones.

michele373 wrote: im glad you like it! I wish I did! I mix it with anything I can use and stomach that will mask the taste. then again I bought a small self cap so I can take em easier at work and not taste it as much or have powder flying...then again never had a beer I 'liked' and gravitate more towards sweeter than bitter. if they made ginger chews with a k center now were talking!!!
don (aka triggerman likes It too.. im sure theres others out there!

Hello Michele!!! How are you??? Apropos of nothing in particular. Just wanted to wave hello. I really love this group of folks!!! Ah!!! Now I remember! I had to perambulate down to yon market this morning and latched onto some "Newmans' Own" tumeric and ginger tea. My lungs are still congested and I can not take antibiotics. So some lemon and honey in that rascal t'were pert good!! Not bad for the Kratom either!!

Be blessed and have a wonderful week!!!

Hello Laurie. Sage advice. I'm hoping it's not so but I'm finding out 1 oz. and I'm starting to acclimate. How are you? Are you all over this stuff? I'm STILL fighting it. My lungs are infected. I'm holding on to see my friend and doctor Wednesday. I don't want to go into the hospital. (bugs check in, they don't check out)

Be blessed Laurie! Have a wonderful week!

Hi Robie!

Doing better today, thanks. You’re sounding better than you WERE. Progress will be slow with this transition taking place, too. I’m so glad to hear you’re taking good care and hopefully smelling the roses and resting often.

Thanks for asking and we’re here for you if you run into any snags (thorns on the rose bush, be careful!).

Big thunderstorms still going on where Somethingsacred and I live. Pretty exciting for our little community as tourist season approaches. Very exciting to watch as long as our storm drains continue to flow unobstructed!

Busy day ahead, so packing it in early tonight.
