NaN 70 responded to my oxycontin post "If you are tapering off Tramadol. Please continue the taper and do not mix Kratom and Tramadol. I am trying to get off all pain meds to establish abase to see if my daily headaches are rebound headaches.
I was really disappointed to read nan 70 line. My first dose of kratom really did affect my headache like nothing ever before.

Nan70 or others why should I not take them together. Yesterday I took 50 mg of tramadol when I woke up 3gm of green kratom at noon(yuck) and 25mg tramadol at supper time. I am hoping there is a way to taper off tramadol AND take kratom.

Every death from kratom, and I mean every, has been the result of mixing kratom with other medications. It is not harmful alone and there are things it can be taken with but tramadol is one of those things.

We just want you to be safe :)

Did you miss the word "not" from ‘tramadol is one of them’.

Hold on a bit until hopefully any members with experience taking Tramadol will comment. If you spaced your doses between the two, I think its called half life, the amount of time the medicine is in your system. I cannot recommend any type of alternating schedule because I cannot answer this question.
I did find this for you since you have already been alternating

Jerry,
Your profile image looks just like a friend of mine in Celebrate Recovery. He is 78 years young and has grip like a vise.
Y'all could be twins. They say everybody has one.

I took 100mg tramadol 3x/day for a few months spine and leg pain about 15 years ago and all it did was back up the plumbing. It didn't touch the pain. :(

I think the issue of concern is primarily because kratom is an opioid AGONIST and the science so far is that kratom is an opioid AGONIST also. Basically they are molecularly the same and they should NOT be used at the same time.

I’ll see if I can find you more information but am glad Nan70 pointed out a potential problematic mix.

PS: Jerry, I put in a request for more information from a knowledgeable resource.

I meant to say how thrilled I am to hear that you found kratom helpful!

Please also keep in mind that some people do find it addicting and continue to take more more more and kratom will not actually work any better by taking more more more. Just a cautionary reminder.

Great news from you so far!

Jyd, If you felt some benefit from a moderate dose of kratom, then you are one of the lucky ones. Usually, if you have opioids in your system, they stop you from getting much effect from the kratom. They compete for the same opioid receptors -- and tramadol got there first.

I will go out on a limb and say that, with a tapered dose of Tramadol, a moderate dose of kratom as needed shouldn't hurt you.

One issue w/ Tramadol is that it's an antidepressant PLUS an opioid, so coming off the antidepressant can be dangerous. I would go slowly -- listen to your body. There is a risk of seizures from quitting Trams too quickly, so don't be in a hurry.

Keep us informed of your progress.

I am tapering off tramadol at 300 mg daily pulse 4-6 Tylenol 1 when it got bad. I am down to only 75 mg per day of tramadol. My goal is to see if my headaches go away if I wean myself of tramadol. It can cause rebound headaches. If I add kratom am I also going to cause rebound headaches from kratom? Or will kratom help me taper tramadol to zero and then I can taper off kratom more easily to see for certain if my headaches are MOH . My pain specialist says he can’t treat my 24 hour headaches until he can rule out MOH.
