There is something called Triphala (Three Fruits) that can be found in Indian groceries and health food stores.
I purchase triphala from MAPI (Maharishi Ayurveda). It is called "Digest Tone". It can sometimes be found in the Clearance/Sale category. Super gentle. Effective.
It is best to purchase the freshest and purest form pf triphala, as many can have less than desirable additives.
A good Triphala can be consumed daily. At first, it works directly on the colon. Eventually, it has been shown to detox at the cellular level.
My home is never without it.
We do a seasonal detox with triphala and a liver detoxifier.
Highly recommend.

One more thing to share: Not to fun to talk or think about to me, but over the counter stool softeners (Docusate Sodium) were a game changer for me! lol (not joking though)

Kratomcritic:

Do a search on this forum for the term "digestive issues".

It is a great thread with lots of ideas for preventing constipation related to Kratom intake.

It was a game changer for me...and I thought I knew a LOT about that.

Personally I would never take Ducosate as it is basically just soap in a capsule.

Kratom SLOWs DOWN transit time by messing with those pesky mu receptors in the bowel.

ANYTHING that speeds colon transit time and moves things along will create softer stools.

I used to use reds exclusively. Greens did zip and whites upped anxiety.
These days, I whites in with the reds and I have found relief with some greens.
Best,

I have massive nerve damage and pain in the lower half of my body. I'm not elderly yet, but sometimes feel like it! Kratom is REALLY a Godsend. It would be an absolute crime to make it illegal. I refuse to take any fentanyl patches and turn into a opiate dependent. That is not a road I want to do down! The doctor "in charge" of my health thinks its ok though! What a twisted world we live in.Freedom is being tested with this kratom fight. A huge number of citizens are saying "yes" to it. Very few citizens I have heard about say "no" to it. The vast majority of people saying "no" to it belong to just some part of our government called the fda and dea. The U.S. government is supposed to work for the people. WE call the shots in the U.S. Its not even about kratom. Its about who's in charge of the U.S. right now. The People? or just *part* of the federal government that works for the People? Unless the U.S. Constitution changed and no one told me, there should not be any fight going on at all! Anyway, I got all worked up there. Better calm down.
Anyway, I have tested many varieties from many vendors in the last 2 years while trying to deal with my nerve pain. By far, my absolute favorite plain leaf strains are green Ketapang and red Ketapang that I got from dakinekratom.com. I like the green one the best. I recently found them and tried them. They blow away ALL the other plain leaf strains I have ever tried... and I have tried a lot in the last 2 years from several vendors.
Anyway, I wanted to share that strain just because I was feeling almost guilty keeping it to myself.
Also, I would really like to know other people's absolute favorite gems too. I was looking for a "absolute favorite kratom strains" list on this forum, or something like that, but I could not find one. I am only interested in plain leaf strains straight off the tree.

One more thing to share: Not to fun to talk or think about to me, but over the counter stool softeners (Docusate Sodium) were a game changer for me! lol (not joking though)

Greens would be a good transition for you catspaw

You can also mix reds and greens together... I like this blend for daytime, but full on reds for night time.

My 97 yr old mother is a Kratom enthusiast. Not only does it help with pain but also helps to control for PAWS from her long stnading dependency on codeine.

ASIDE**************************
Codeine is available over the counter in Canada (8mg) with tylenol and caffeine (T1's).
*******************************
My mother used T1's regularly (for decades)...then she stopped them suddenly thinking she could just substitute plain Tylenol and of course she ended up feeling like crap!

She was astounded when I suggested she was going through withdrawal.. The clincher was when she took her first dose of Kratom and then in 40 mins was feeling just fine.

NOW she wants to share it with everyone in the assisted living facility!

However, when kratom is used by the elderly there MUST be a plan in place to manage bowel function or they can get backed up pretty quick!

BTW...since using Kratom I think my mother's anxiety is much more under control and because she is not so anxious her blood pressure is down.

BOTH are unexpected but beneficial effects from Kratom use.

Mother sticks to red strains....a brief experiment with some greens last week did not turn out well. This week she is going to try some Indo Maeng Da...and the Kratom experiment in the elderly continues!

Another benefit of Kratom use in the elderly is that there is no potential for impairment as their might be with opiates OR cannabis...so they are not made more prone to falling or poor judgments when using Kratom. This raises the safety profile for Kratom significantly as falls are a HUGE concern in this population.

Pain in any area of the body can be a hindrance. Especially when the pain becomes chronic and lasts for months and months – impacting the quality of our life.

These aches and pains become more unbearable for the elderly population as it not only affects their ability to perform physical tasks but also impacts their emotional well-being.

Pain – is a common problem in older persons and according to stats, more than 50% of elderlies living in community settings complain of chronic pain?

Additionally, the pain experienced by the elderlies of our community tends to be more constant and range from moderate to severe intensity.

Unfortunately, most medical experts suggest patients take opiates apart from analgesic to relieve the pain.

In fact, a study comprising of 300 US veterans showed that 44% received both – opiates and analgesia for pain management.

However, the increased usage of opiate may not be tolerated by many individuals as opiates – however effective they might be can cause side effects.

Furthermore, there is a dependency issue with opiates and most consumers are unable to stop the usage even after their problem is resolved.

Of course, young adults can experiment with several treatment methods such as massages, acupuncture, and even mind-relaxation techniques such as yoga to free themselves from the recurring pain.

However, the elderlies are reluctant to try such methods for the fear of poor health, lack of mobility, and sometimes – lack of resources.

This is where Kratom comes in
Kratom, as we are all aware, is known as the best natural pain reliever that does the trick of reducing pain without any side effects.

A recent online survey conducted by the American Kratom Association asked 6,150 Kratom users on the effectiveness of the herb.

90% of the participants claimed Kratom to be very effective for pain as well as depression, anxiety, and insomnia.

Around 0.03% said the herb did not help them at all.

In short, Kratom strains are very effective in treating the most chronic pains. However, some are wary about its usage on elders.

Does Kratom cause Side Effects?
Side effects of Kratom as we all know is safe to use and there is no risk of any side effects of Kratom when used as directed.

Those who are planning to give the herb to an elderly individual should make sure:

The herb does not counteract with any other medicine they are taking
The user takes small amounts initially
To look out for any undesirable side effects of kratom
To find out as much about the specific Kratom before using

Kratom for pain
Now that we have gotten this clear, let’s find out which strains are ideal for pain management and well tolerated by elders.

No two herbs are same and due to the different growing conditions and variations – no two Kratom will provide the same effects of Kratom. While some are good for depression, others are helpful in pain.

Here are some of the top Kratom strains for pain management:

Kratom for pain

Bali Kratom
The high content of 7-hydroxy mitragynine in Bali strains is very effective for pain relief and helps in producing the analgesic effects of Kratom.

It can be safely used by individuals who are suffering from chronic pain from joint diseases and even cancer.

Bali Kratom

Malaysian Kratom strains
These strains are also effective in relieving pain and are less sedating than the above mentioned Bali strains.

Because of this, these strains are ideal for use by those elderlies who don’t want anything interfering with their energy levels.

The Malay strains are especially helpful in relieving joint stiffness and pain from arthritis – a common problem faced by older adults.

Malaysian Kratom strains

Maeng Da
The strain, just like others has pain relieving properties and is especially beneficial for a chronic backache, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and even pain from cancer.
However, it is effective when taken in higher dosage. It also has to sedate properties which are why it is recommended to take the strain when no physical task requires the user’s attention.

Maeng Da

Red Vein Borneo
Known to be the strongest of all Kratom, the red vein Borneo provides the best relief from pain.

However, since it has a high-intensity level, it is recommended to be used only by those who are more accustomed to the effects of Kratom.

Additionally, the red vein Borneo provides the users with a mood lifting effect and works wonder to uplift the user’s mood and energy levels.

Red Vein Borneo

Red Vein Thai
Also known as the “Red Thai”, the strain is one of the most popular in the market today. Well, why wouldn’t it?

The red vein Thai provides the best alternate for pain relieving medication and when used as directed, users can benefit greatly.

Additionally, the red vein Thai Kratom strains work as a mood up lifter and relieve users from depression, anxiety, and lethargic feelings.
The final words
We all know Kratom as the most wonderful herb for pain relief as well as an anti-depressant that helps us ward off anxious and depressive feelings.

However, sometimes the effects of Kratom work Contrarily on different people. This is why special care is needed by those who are providing elderly individuals with Kratom.

Apart from assessing the symptoms of the users, it is also essential for Kratom consumers to take advice from the respective doctors.

Since Kratom is legal in most parts of United States, there will be no reason for the doctor to prohibit its use until and unless it interferes with their medical condition.

And even if the doctor allows you completely, make sure you read up on the effects of Kratom fully and even educate the person you are giving it to in order to prevent any complications.

And of course, make sure that in case of any symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea – the use of Kratom should be stopped immediately.

With that in mind, good luck and hope you find the perfect Kratom strains for your elderly loved one!
