Q: What year did you begin?
A: I started Hawksbill Botanicals in 2014.
Q: What was your motivation for starting your company?
A: My original motivation to start Hawksbill was two-fold. Firstly, I wanted to help the veterans I knew who were coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan with a natural, safer way to deal with their painful injuries, PTSD, depression and insomnia. My family is made up of many generations of combat veterans. My brother, husband, father, grandfather, and numerous friends have all fought and sacrificed so much for our country while deployed to the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and WWII. The second reason, and no less dear to my heart, was that a few years before starting Hawksbill I lost my best friend to prescription painkillers after he had been prescribed them following a broken neck injury falling from a horse. He had never taken a drug before in his life, and opiates killed him within 3 years of that first prescription. I felt if I could help even one person dealing with pain discover a natural alternative and avoid death by pharmaceuticals, well, it was just something I had to do. I am fortunate to have personally spent time traveling in SouthEast Asia, where I was able to see how the people there use and rely on Kratom and how it is grown and processed, and so I feel very confident in the trustworthiness and consistency of the products we carry.
Q: What are your future plans for the company?
A: My future plans for Hawksbill are to keep providing clean, pure, reliable Kratom strains at the best possible prices in order to make it available to those who seek an alternative to prescription pills and other dangerous drugs. Also, we will continue to raise awareness on the myriad benefits of Kratom, fighting to keep Kratom legal for all those who depend on it and for so many I know personally whose lives it has saved.
Q: What separates your company from others like yours?
A: What separates our company from others is our heart, our relationship with our customers, and our unwavering ethics to quality and customer service over profits and sensationalism. Our loyal customers have been with us for years, they trust us, know our names and know they can call us any time and will actually get a response. We know time is of the essence for many people, so we go above and beyond to get their orders to them as quickly as physically possible. We would rather stay small and trustworthy, only providing strains we know are unadulterated and of the highest quality, rather than grow exponentially like many of the really big vendors have by using gimmicks, additives, and misleading representations.
Q: What are your top 5 products and why?
A: Our top 5 products are Green Maeng Da, White Maeng Da, Elephant Jongkong, Red Maeng Da and Borneo White. I believe these remain our most popular products because they offer a wide range of effects. It’s a wonderful thing that the different strains can help so many people with a variety of different issues.
Q: What specials do you offer?
A: We offer a permanent standing 10% discount to all military, both active duty and veterans, all first responders, and teachers. This discount can always be added on top of any other discount or coupon we offer at any time. We frequently give an extra 15-20% off coupon codes for all of our strains as well. We send free samples with every order placed with us. We only ship Priority or Priority Express.
Q: Tell us more about your customer service?
A: I believe our customer service is second to none. First of all, we are highly accessible. People reach out to us every day by phone, text, email and can depend on getting a response from us very quickly, in the unlikely case we couldn't answer immediately. We even respond on nights and weekends whenever possible. We wholeheartedly stand behind our products. I never want anyone unhappy with an order they made from us, so our standing policy is if someone isn't happy with a strain they ordered, for any reason at all, we always replace it with a different strain or fully refund it with no questions asked, whichever the customer chooses. If the mail service loses a package en route to a customer, we immediately ship a replacement out and absorb the cost of that ourselves so the customer doesn't have to bear that loss. I believe our customer service (and of course the quality of our strains) is the reason our customers stay with us for years and years.
Q: Are your cGMP certified?
A: We are not currently GMP certified but are in the process of becoming so.
Q: Tell us about any awards or certifications your company has received?
A: We do not currently have any awards or certifications, other than the valued loyalty of our customers who have stayed with us since the moment they first discovered Hawksbill Botanicals. We regularly test our strains (both before shipping out of Asia and once arrived in the US) for contaminants, bacteria, molds, heavy metals, and for overall alkaloid content so we are always confident in the product we are providing to our trusting customers.
