US District Judge Dan Polster presiding over nationwide opioid litigation dismissed an order that now allows the general public, for the first time ever, to examine opioid sales from the Drug Enforcement Administration's Automation of Reports and Consolidated Orders System (ARCOS) that details how the opioid epidemic exploded into almost every community across the US from 2006 through 2012.

"The public release of pre-2012 ARCOS data, which shows how prescription opioid pills flooded American communities, is a positive and transparent step forward," plaintiffs attorneys Paul Hanley, Paul Ferrell and Joe Rice said in a statement released Monday.

"The data provides statistical insights that help pinpoint the origins and spread of the opioid epidemic."

As per The Washington Post, the ACROS data showed big pharmaceutical companies pumped 76 billion oxycodone and hydrocodone pills from 2006 through 2012 into nearly every zip code across the country.

America’s largest drug companies saturated the country with 76 billion oxycodone and hydrocodone pain pills from 2006 through 2012 as the nation’s deadliest drug epidemic spun out of control, according to previously undisclosed company data released as part of the largest civil action in U.S. history.

The information comes from a database maintained by the Drug Enforcement Administration that tracks the path of every single pain pill sold in the United States — from manufacturers and distributors to pharmacies in every town and city. The data provides an unprecedented look at the surge of legal pain pills that fueled the prescription opioid epidemic, which has resulted in nearly 100,000 deaths from 2006 through 2012.

Just six companies distributed 75 percent of the pills during this period: McKesson Corp., Walgreens, Cardinal Health, AmerisourceBergen, CVS and Walmart, according to an analysis of the database by The Washington Post. Three companies manufactured 88 percent of the opioids: SpecGx, a subsidiary of Mallinckrodt; Actavis Pharma; and Par Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Endo Pharmaceuticals.

Who is NOW selling narcan (naloxone) , I wonder? Don’t confuse the issue by thinking they are “donating” that stuff because SOMEBODY is paying for them, too!

I’m betting some of the same people/companies are “saving lives” now.

A monopoly of pain, misery and death! How are you Laurie? I hope you are having a wonderful day! It's very rancid behavior what these companies get away with. I'm at a loss for words. THIS is why I'm upset with Bayar buying up Monsanto. This very example right here!

Be blessed Laurie.

yes, they care so much that not only is it not free anymore they have raised the price expediently for narcan. All while they still sell fentanyl..., WTF!

Amazing if someone sells you opiates and you die they can go to jail. Big pharma throws money around and settles lawsuits. Purdue and the Sackler family..,along with other.., should all be held responsible for the deaths they have knowingly caused.
And yeah lets not give them the narcan to save them..,just let them die if they cant afford it....

It’s NEVER free when it’s a tax break to “donate” and give the false impression of helping society with this dreadful phenomenon...

SOMEBODY makes money when EMT personnel get “free” Narcan. Quite a racket.
