I've been an almost daily user for about 2.5 years for my anxiety. I used to be a big drinker but with kratom I was able to stop and feel SO much better. It has been an absolute godsend- had a lot of tragedy in my life this year and it kept me from going under.

The ONLY issue I have with it is that I think it has COMPLETELY killed my sex drive (I'm a female). The thought of sex does nothing for me and I can rarely get turned on. I feel so bad for my poor boyfriend. I used to have a healthy sex drive before kratom. I really do not want to stop kratom because it helps me so much... is there anything I can take to boost the libido? Does anyone know why kratom can put a damper on libido? I've seen some people on forums say it does the opposite...im so frustrated and don't know what to do.

I saw a suggestion on here to try Damiana. I want to get some other opinions before I try something. Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

You may want to have your hormone levels checked. Testosterone in men and women is what affects sex drive. Your testosterone levels may have dipped.

Gmantheman is right.

Low testosterone is likely the culprit.

Testosterone supplementation in microdoses made a huge difference for me!

I noticed the same issue. Try Mucuna pruriens powder with your kratom. It “fixes” that problem for me (also female) while complementing kratom quite nicely.

I was just thinking mucuna. Also, Maca may help as well.

Wait you guys, some of you have been saying testosterone when you should have been saying estrogen.

Kratom cannot affect your hormone levels. If you're unaware of how kratom works based off of what we know about it so far here is how it works without complicating it:

Kratom has one major component that gives it its OOMF! 7-Hydroxy-Mitrogynine, or 7HM. 7HM is an opioid agonist, which means that it binds and suppresses certain opioid receptors. Now there are hundreds of different kinds of opioid receptors. Caffeine, Opiates like morphine, oxies, hydros, dilaudid, heroin, fentanyl, etc all bind to the receptors that manage breathing regulation, pain response, the gaba receptors, which are responsible for stuff like how alert you are to your surroundings, which has been shown to be partly the cause of anxiety disorders if there is a disruption in the regulation of your gaba receptors. However, caffeine and chocolate bind to other parts of the opioid system which manage cognitive abilities deep in your forebrain. This is what gives caffeine its famous effects. Chocolate has some very undertone effects where it does effect hormone regulation and actually stimulates the hormone regulation, though I know nothing about how the chemicals in chocolate actually affect the opioid system.

Now this is where 7HM comes in. 7HM actually affects some of the same receptors as caffeine as well as opiates, excluding the breathing regulation. This is why 7HM is so powerful with its pain killing effects without causing you to have some kind of breathing complication. It also stimulates the part of the opioid system that is also effected by caffeine. So the higher the doses, the more these parts of your brain are gonna be suppressed, which is why the higher doses cause sleepiness opposed to the lower doses.

Nothing of 7HM that I know of affects the same receptors as the chemicals in chocolate. In fact, I know that considering I'm almost 20 years old, my sex drive is quite in its prime right now, I still have never really heard of kratom killing the sex drive. Usually when I hear this, it's coming from women at least in their mid 30's. I don't know how old you are, but I am going to make a presumption that you are at least in your 30's. Otherwise, then just keep reading.

If you are at least in your 30's, then the thing at play might be early signs of menopause. That is actually the most likely that I can think of.

If you are younger like me, then all I can think of is some sort of late signs of some kind of hormonal regulation disorder which only starts during the prime of the sex drive. I don't know of any but I would highly recommend seeing your doctor about this. It could also be a latent PCOS, but that would have other symptoms as well that do not correlate to what you are saying.

Now here's the thing: I am a computer science major. I am not studying medicine at all whatsoever, nor neurology. I just did a bunch of research beforehand that makes me feel comfortable with taking kratom so that's how I use kratom, I gotta know what it does. So I had to look into the opioid system. I'm not expert but this is just what I get from the time when I was actively researching medicine, psychology, and neurology. Just google around for more info on how kratom works. I can't guarantee that my information is completely accurate, but it's worth a shot.

Actually it is progesterone, testosterone and estrogen that could be low. Interesting tidbit, men produce large amounts of testosterone in there saliva when excited and actually give women a boost when kissing.

Have you tired getting a batman suit for your boyfirend and have him whisper in a low bruce wane voice, "to the bat mobile", in you ear?

Jokes aside If I was in your shoes I would go to the doctor and take a couple tests. That way you can at least narrow down the possibilities. ;)

Men and women BOTH have progesterone, estrogen and testosterone. Obviously the amounts and ratios of these hormones are different in each gender. But my guess would be testosterone as the culprit for a low sex drive. AND it does not even have to be low...if the other hormones are high in relation to the testosterone then symptoms of low testosterone may be present. In other words it is possible to have symptoms of low testosterone even when all the hormones are present in the right amounts.

This is why it is important to have all the sex hormones tested so that the levels of each (and ratios) can be determined. It is not just a matter of taking more of one or the other...it is important that the hormones be balanced out.

Unfortunately, it takes a practitioner well educated in hormone rebalancing to get this right. MOST general practitioners will not have the expertise or even the basic understanding of how to do this. Often it is the physicians who specialize in "anti-aging" medicine that do this kind of work.

It is also important to make sure that your body has all the basic building blocks to make all the hormones. Obviously it is the food we eat that supplies those building blocks but DHEA is often supplemented for this as well.

PS...thyroid function should be assessed as well.

BTW...it is normal for estrogen levels to go down as women age and approach menopause. This is NOT a pathological state, it is NORMAL and does not need to be corrected. The reason distressing symptoms occur for some women at this time is because the hormones are out of balance AND the reason sex drive MAY decrease with the onset of menopause is because testosterone levels also go down. In fact BOTH men and women experience a decrease in testosterone with age....so we are back to testosterone again!

Im a male, however I have to say it does the opposite for me. After years of opiates slowly diminishing my sex drive, then opiate depression once I quit. Once I moved to kratom especially when I take daytime doses and strains I not only have amped up my sex life which makes the gf much happier, its also caused way more blood flow. Im blessed anyways but towards the end of my 8 years on prescription lortab/oxy I could barely manage 7 or so, and since kratom Im back into double digits. (in fact while doing research Ive heard people say people rather give their daughters away to kratom users vs pot users. which to that I say Im not sure if I had a daughter Id want to let her near anyone who enjoys this specific benefit lol)

So I would say what everyone else has and get checked out. Also sorry if this sounded like bragging, but I am keeping notes on my recovery and what good and bad effects kratom has on me. Yes there are some negative, some strains like red maeng da from Gaia etc cause me anxiety and SVT avg around 105 bpm pulse, but its also the strain that boosts my sex drive a lot! Wish I could find a strain to mix it with that curves my anxiety but still allows me the viagra like benefits.

I do find a beer helps the anxiety without killing my sex drive but as someone with liver disease due to 8 years of pills and alcohol I try to avoid alcohol and xanax etc.
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day, put the pieces back together my way.
