For thousands of years, Pacific islanders have made a calming drink out of kava, a root that's been called "Nature's Xanax" and "The Pacific Elixir."

Now, MIT researchers are using cutting-edge science to synthesize the feel-good molecules in Kava.

It's work they say could help lead to new treatments for anxiety, pain and insomnia — and to new insights into other medicinal plants.

"What we do in our lab is to actually start from plants that have thousands of years of use in traditional medicine," says Jing-Ke Weng, a biology professor and member of MIT's Whitehead Institute. "So we already know there's something in that plant that works to treat some illness, and we just need to find it."

Thank you Babel!!!

Your my kinda dude,, herbal medicines , power plants to some ... do you have any experience with magnolia bark? I’ve recently read about it and the anti anxiety qualities .. I really want to try this ... folks have made positive comments on how it’s the herbal equivalent to Xanax.. but without the gnarly baggage that goes with it ..!!

As far as kava goes, what a lovely herb , def Love kava !!
Hope your KFF ( Kratom free Friday) treated you well my friend (L)

Thx again B-)

No experience with Magnolia. I'll be sure to check into it.

Edit: Wikipidea was interesting. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honokiol

KFF was nice, but I just now had to hold myself back from ordering Hirsuta and other stuff from Tea Time Botanicals. They're having a sale until Sunday, but it's hard to excuse buying more stuff while my cupboard is full. Though I can sort of justify the Hirsuta, and once that's in my cart, and shipping is paid for, it's tempting to add in some reds, lol. You ever use any of their reds, or can recommend some reds in general? They have a long list of them. I'm looking for stuff that will have a different alkaloid profile than my Green and White Maeng Da, and my Green Hulu.

I just ordered from Amazon, and I got a 4 oz. jar of it coming on Sunday (supposedly). Samsara makes it. It's nearly as refined as LiftMode's, but at a much lower price, even when using their website instead of Amazon.

It looks like Magnolia Bark Extract also works on the cannabinoid system, and has other benefits (anti-cortisol and stress), which would explain its place in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

If it boosts acetocholine that's cool, but that would be another reason for me to take my lecithin powder, with its choline, and inositol.

It came today. :)

Here's a photo of the bag (263.92 KB, so that might be too much for a mobile device): i.postimg.cc/L6M0XGLg/samsara-magnolia-bark.jpg

The powder itself is unremarkable in color, a "dirty white" maybe, with a hint of beige. It's powdered pretty fine, and it dissolved in my mouth like it melted. I was expecting bitter, and it was, slightly, but the taste is actually nice (bear in mind I also take Cayenne pepper at times, and let that melt a bit in my mouth, so others mileage may vary), and it got better as I savored it. The flavor lingered as it feels like there might have been some oil, or an alkaloid that acts like one, as part of the extract's profile. That too is nice, sort of buttery. I'm definitely reminded of Kava, and I got some mouth numbness, or tingling. More subtle than Kava's effect on the mouth though.

Easier to let dissolve in my mouth than Kava extract, and the near talc like powder basically just melted.

So top grades for the grinding, and while I have zero to go on to grade the quality by comparison, I am thinking that this is top notch stuff.

I go by the premise that it might help when taking anything herbal to get the taste of it in your mouth. The "woo" of that being that the taste prepares the body. And of course if the extract can melt in your mouth, you absorb it faster.

It's hard to be unbiased about something that you want to be good, so take the above with a healthy grain of salt. As too my impression that it starts acting very quickly.

If what I read about Kava providing reverse tolerance for some of the GABAA receptors doesn't turn out to be false, I'll definitely still keep that as part of my arsenal. But it's no longer the mainstay it once was for me, now that I have other supplements that work in a similar fashion. Though Kava is at least a bit unique in the way it works. It's nice to be able to give it more of a rest, and thus keep its effect more fresh.

P.S. The measuring spoon they enclosed is quality but unless the powder being measured has been fluffed up, a lot, like it was before it settled, and kept to no more than a level scoop, it would be very easy to take way more than the suggested dose of 300 milligrams. Though in one spot on their page they seem to refer to 500 milligram doses.

But the bag, while somehow not being specific, does mention how many servings it has, and that breaks down to 300 milligrams per dose.

Eyeballing the doses would eventually be doable, but only once one became able to judge how compacted the powder was. I used a scale. ;)

Oh that’s great man!!
I went ahead and placed a order yesterday purchased the same brand and quantity as you !!! So... taste isn’t gnarly?? Grind is good ..? And the quality of product you feel is top notch?..? Well hell, im looking forward to my package getting here .... while I’ll def be using the magnolia extract im also going to giving this to my special lady friend ..AKA wife !! Anxiety has been a struggle for her , and me for that matter .. but Kratom has helped me more with anxiety than it has for her ... turns out magnolia extract also has anti inflammatory and antioxidant quality’s ( if I remember correctly) .. so that’s a plus !!

Any effects that you’ve noticed that are note worthy?
Calmness, or lowering anxiety ??

Thx for sharing Babel (L)
