Hives have hit me like a freight train this week. I cannot say kratom CAUSED IT. I had been doing my usual experimenting for a good 3-4 wks, with only the effects listed prior. I took a week off to specifically work on this kratom and my chemistry - to find a good fit for opiate withdrawal, followed by need for depression, energy, anxiety, and fatigue syndrome. Then I got a med refilled at Rite AID with a different manuf, but correct blood pressure med. it was evening, and it causes drowsiness so I took a half a lisinopril made by Watson and 15 minutes later I was breaking out in hives.
I finally got a shot in the butt and some prednisone for the hives, but still needed depression relief to function, so I continued small doses of Kratom! And the hives began again.
The lisinopril was taken Wed evening. By Thursday, I was at urgent care. Not dying, just HIVES. Meaning something toxic needs out of me! I have taken strong prednisone for the hives as a follow up, BUT (I am admitting stupidity on MY PART) I tried going off kratom all day and my hives began to subside. But my depression returned QUICKLY and quite noticably, so I tried l tyrosine to use instead for a few days. THAT brought me back to square one. HIVES AT FULL FORCE. I think I need to quit EVERYTHING for a few days to clear this up. I just don't think, as a previous opiate addict, I can do it with work tomorrow. And I have never taken so much Benadryl. Just sharing a word of warning. It's not the Kratom, it is my addictive nature due to serious clinical depression with no cure other than kratom. Please just share this and remember, pills do not lead to happiness. Kratom is not Afda Regulated, so there are no studies to compare how prescription drugs mix with it. Use caution and better judgement :). HUGS!

Hives are fading! I had to stop all Keaton, finished all the prednisone, more Benadryl. Finally I stayed off Kratom and reintroduced tiny amounts of opiates for my fever. Then I added a probiotic, took prune juice to flush the toxins out (they flushed, lol), and tried alternative antihistamines. The remaining two, loratadine and centirizine. I also took 1 mg klonopin for anxiety. SOMETHING I DID (or didnt do) is helping!
I have new packages of kratom to begin carefully reintroducing it after my hives are gone. I must make sure not to DEVELOP an allergy to the one medicine that have my life hope!
Just an update for my fellow kratom lovers. I use kratom to alleviate depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. Kratom is wonderful medicine! What a miracle! Thanks to all who take the time to post reviews! It really helps to determine which strain by which vendor are the best for each individual. I do not take high enough doses to "get high". It is MEDICINE and it changed my life! The itching now is from my remaining hives fading. I can tell you, even my psychiatrist thought the tea did more for me than anything he can prescribe! He is a SMART psychiatrist. Has good credentials and was very interested in hearing of a medicine that can help patients with debilitating depression. I will post as I reintroduce Kratom

The hives you have been experiencing are from kratom. I've been taking two different strains from the same brand for about a year never really taking more than 1.5 grams a day. Last month I noticed a raised rash on my right arm and ever since then it's been hell. My heals and the portion of my palms right under my thumbs were so inflamed I could hardly use them. I've been off Kratom for two days now and the hives have disappeared.

Read up further into this thread. Kratom is not the direct CAUSE. Once hives occur, kratom must be discontinued (!!) because it’s naturally packed with HISTAMINES which aggravate hives. Histamines from kratom are not the CAUSE. But kratom will make them MUCH WORSE and it’s usually necessary to discontinue kratom during hives and delay restarting until the body fully clears of the allergic reaction (to whatever).

Laurie thank you for your reply. I'm not so sure. I've never had hives before so there was no pre-existing condition. I am going hold off taking Kratom for another week then try a different brand to see what happens.

I never stop learning about the wonders of the leaf.

I’ve read that kratom alkaloids have histamines.

Definitely discontinue kratom. Here’s a link about histamines while we wait (I’m also sick) www.webmd.com/allergies/what-are-histamines
