Hello everyone
It was a tough pill for me to watch Congressman Polis being treated like a mosquito at a picnic! For us, this Rules Committee Hearing (when kratom was briefly raised ) totally disregarded the rights of people who wish to be free to choose their own health care treatment over big pharma poisons. Money talks!! But a true grassroots movement can turn the tide. Let's keep positive! I for one like Laurie am praying for favor in our battle. holycow#1

I agree with you. But a 6-4 vote is not too bad. At least almost half voted "yes"

Below is a wrap up of what went on and what is to come next from the KTA (Kratom Trade Association).
This hearing was sneaked in will little prior notice or warning so no one really had the chance to hear about it and call our congress people about supporting the Pocan Bill in time. There was zero regard or respect for public input.

This should get us even more motivated to make ourselves be heard! We are not defeated. Its not over. Now I am really encouraged to mobilize and act the next time we need our voices heard. I encourage everyone to get on the mailing list of the AKA and KTA (Kratom Trade Association) so we can be informed quickly of actions we need to take.

Here is the notice from the AKA they sent me yesterday:

A Wrap-up on the Pocan Amendment to SITSA Act
Today the House Rules Committee defeated the Pocan/Gosar/Polis kratom amendment to the SITSA Act or “Stop the Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues Act of 2017” that would have ensured kratom was protected from this bill. Our next battle to make sure kratom cannot be scheduled through this Act will be in the Senate Judiciary Committee when the issue is scheduled for a Hearing there.

This is disappointing news, but there is still hope. The KTA is following this closely along with the AKA and others and will provide direction on next steps as the bill makes its way through the Senate. The Senate will need to hear from you, as well, so please stay tuned! We will continue our advocacy before the House and Senate to make clear that Kratom is not an opioid analogue and is used safely by millions of Americans.
Through continued grassroots and professional lobbying efforts in the community, we can make sure we protect kratom together. For a last minute urgent alert, we were very impressed by the number of people that called and emailed. Stay tuned...

Just a quick note. I read a comment earlier today from a woman who actually works in the office of a representative. I'm sorry, I don't remember her name, but her job evidently is to respond to folks who are trying to tell their personal stories to her employer (the representative). She basically, in her statement, rated the effectiveness of various ways to get your message across. She explained that social media doesn't grab anyone's attention at all, and went on to say that phone calls and paper letters are the most effective ways to get your point heard. Seeing as how we are in a bit of a time crunch here, let me recommend that everyone pick up their phone, please.
