Hi
I must preface anything I say with a warning that I am so NOT techie! And probably doesn't help I am using my phone instead of a computer. All that to say I don't know if I'm introducing myself in the right way or place!
I started using Kratom last December and started slow. I had weaned myself off methadone a few months prior (which was the worst hell ever!!). I had been prescribed norcos, oxys and er morphine for a spinal cord nerve bundle tumor that grew followed a back fusion. The pain was unbearale and I spent the next 4 years in bed and completely snowed. And while I am sure methadone is a horrible drug and was no doubt killing me slowly, it DID provide enough sustained pain relief that I began to work my way out of bed. I knew when I decided to quit that the underlying reason for my pain would still be present but I wanted to see how much pain I could handle without the numbing that only worked for small increments of time.
I only share that info because I believe my drug history is significant to how my body responds to meds. I also have a genetic mutation which causes my body to not detox normally (it took 22 days post last methadone dose before I even began to withdraw!!) Also my tolerance increases much quicker than typical.
My Kratom use was a solitary experience but it didn't take but a month before I was using daily. I worked up to approx 3-4 grams 3-4 times a day before I realized last month that I wasn't responding the way I did initially. When I did some reading I dropped back down to a 2-2.5 gram dose 3 times a day, with an extra thrown in if the pain was too much.
For the past few days I can't even tell that I'm taking anything except that the pain does decrease enough for me to know I took something....
I thought I should wean down but frankly I have been acting like I'm back on narcotics, scared too death of withdrawals and paws. And obviously my body has built up it's tolerance again rather quickly I think, as it's not even been a year of daily usage.
I did see someone post about using only one strain a day and alternating as well as a washout? I have used mixes of green and red with whites early in day and yellow before bed.
Because of some rather serious health and emotional traumas I am a mess and struggling with the whole I'm an addict, which I am. But I am also someone with horrible pain and I'm ok with being a daily Kratom user (I won't ever go back to opoids for chronic pain!) But I think the brain fog from the other health issues means I am having a hard time figuring out what to do now. I am so grateful to have found a natural, healthier alternative for pain relief and I know there is a learning curve to figuring out your sweet spot but has anyone else struggled with MTHFR Gene's (heterozygous x2) and know much about how to help when your cells don't clear out/detox very effectively?? I can't seem to get down past 2 times a day (and then the pain will wake me up in the middle of the night and I'm back to an "extra" dose....)
I know our response to Kratom is unique based on body chemistry but I feel like I'm still a newbie and maybe I've missed something or someone may have suggestions or even relate??
I'm not trying to quit (even tho I know I have some issues with being an addict, I have more issues with the monster I am when in constant pain!!) I'm simply needing to know how to use Kratom the best way....
And if I posted wrong or missed some rule please forgive me!
Looking forward to making some new friends and learning from you folks willing to share and help!! Thanks!!

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, Thewhowithin69!

Great intro! Very thorough!

I sympathize on so many levels, being an addict in recovery. Also fighting chronic pain. Pulled a muscle today, same pain muscle (trying to stretch it). Now I’m super grumpy.

I’m at about the same use as you are and constantly wishing I didn’t need something for pain AT ALL. Tylenol and aleve only help so much, and aren’t particularly healthy.

You’ve come a longgggg way in the RIGHT DIRECTION. Try not to be hard on yourself and remember that!

I can’t help with your metabolism issues, but I’m betting it’s not that uncommon. I hope more people with that issue pitch in to support you!

Glad you found kratom! And us!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I take Kratom for my spinal arthritis after two spinal surgeries. I have very little history of prescription pain medications, probably why I am a low dosser, I have been experimenting with the less is more theory lately.

If pain prevents you from living life you need to treat it like any other condition. Kratom is a lot safer and for me its the only thing that works well.

Do you have a good vendor for quality kratom? I found it useful to source from two or three trusted vendors. I take turmeric with my Kratom. I do rotate strains. I also have a scale and weigh all my doses.A scale has helped with tolerance issues. One teaspoon of one powder might not be the same amount from another I noticed a whole grams weight difference when I started to weigh my kratom.

Please ask questions. Sharing and learning here has helped me a great deal.

Take care

Methadone is not a terrible drug it is a very useful drug (in the right hands) and it sounds like you used it in the exact correct way ie to treat pain so you could become more mobile!

This is my story too. I used oxycodone for several years in order to be able to engage in the exercise necessary to create strength and fexibility. IT WORKED and then I was able to come off the oxy with help from Kratom.

It is OK to take Kratom everyday. There are many on this forum who have used Kratom daily for years. I use 6 grams 4 times per day in order to treat and /prevent pain. This allows me to stay active.

Like you and all other regular users I have developed tolerance BUT that does not mean it does not work for me. If I do not take it then I really notice what it is doing for me!

I think it is advisable to use as much as you need, as often as you need to manage pain so that you can have a life.

There is NOTHING wrong with being chemically dependent...half the world's population is dependent on some chemical or another with caffeine, nicotine and alcohol leading the way.

Kratom is 100 times safer than any of those for long term use AS LONG AS you find a dose that works for you and then manage to keep it at that level.

BTW being immobile can kill you...Kratom use cannot! so use it to keep going.

I will repeat what Nan70 said...a scale is helpful in managing tolerance as you can keep your dose quite precise.

Hello Thewhowithin69, Welcome to the Forum. Happy to have you here. Well Written. Look into Incarvillea Sinensis. It is also good for Pain.:-?

Hello madmax,

What would you recommend a starting dose for 20:1 extract of incarvillea. I am guessing 500mg.? Its been hard to find recommendations online, there is not much talk and info on incarvillea.

thanks

Ohhhhh, that’s not necessarily incorrect. Many people do that ON PURPOSE and then switch strains. You merely forgot to switch strains and/or resource. I have to change entire resource AND STRAIN to keep tolerance in check. I have a lot of different red varieties from numerous sources. Plus greens n whites, of course.
What’s your next move? Switch strains, or “do a washout”?

Hi Laurie,
I was going to try a washout with akhuamma seeds but honestly I'm nervous. I tried to wean down some but the pain is pretty unbearble going without.
I am still trying to figure out vendors and strains, altho I have done best with reds and greens with some white thrown in for morning dosing. I am still trying to figure out strains/speeds and frankly it's all a bit confusing!!
I have a surgery scheduled for next month and they wanted me to give this and mmj a break because they were concerned with anesthesia not being easy to achieve with those who use these products daily. Not sure that's gonna happen though!! I can cut back on mmj as I'm not the biggest fan anyways but Kratom has definitely become a necessity for me and I've mostly accepted that now!! ( Seems the whole addict stereotyping did a number on my head for awhile!!)
Which is your favorite color vendors?? I just got some from COB due to there reviews on here and liked what I got except the red mahakam. Guess that one doesn't agree with my chemistry because I can't tell I have even had a dose with that strain!!
I'm working on a schedule so I can switch strains and keep track....but I am a creature of habit and like routines so this is stretching me a bit lol..
Thanks again for responding!!
Hope your enjoying your weekend....
