I've been using Kratom for approximately 6 months to assist with dosing off the narcotics. I believe due to the dosage I'm taking, my hair is thinning. This sent me into a tailspin of emotions. Is anyone else experiencing hair loss or thinning hair? I was told to stop using Kratom.

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, makross.

No scientific research that HAS been done indicates it. But. The scientific research is being blocked by greed and ignorance (big pharma).

Most folks think kratom is causing (put your health issue here) first because it’s not an FDA approved medication.

Two people have asked about it in my memory (over years) and I suggest you discontinue use of kratom immediately and see if that helps.

There may be more items to eliminate from your diet, or ADD to your diet, but you gotta start somewhere. I would suggest you get blood work done ASAP by your general practitioner to see if you are lacking proper nutrients.

I’m only replying because so many folks are not online for this holiday and Nan70 and I are the only ones posting on the forum. Hate to leave you worrying out there. I’m not replying because I know anything. I do know hair loss is a good reason to see a general practitioner and they will tell you to eliminate the kratom immediately and see what happens. So try that AND see your dr.

Try a SEARCH under keyword hair loss? Maybe some previous discussions here will help you?
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you, Laurie! Yes, I have made an appointment with my M.D. to have blood workup done, and I was also told to see a Dermatologist. In my research this past weekend, I found that Kratom can affect your immune system which may relate to hair growth.

The strange thing is... that this is the only supplement that's new in my life.

As you may know, Doctors don't know too much about Kratom. I know we take it at our own risk and figure out the dosage as you go, however, the huge hair loss was extremely traumatic for me.
Thank you again for responding,

Karin

Hi Karin,

That’s why I responded to say, “I dunno!”

Keep us posted on your blood work and how you are!

Also, I’m curious about how kratom might affect the immune system. I haven’t read up on the leaf in depth recently. Was it something you read here? Or elsewhere?!

The good news from my end is my hair looks better! But. I take a vitamin powder supplement daily that actually slows the gray from taking over. Now I can go 6 weeks between coloring. That helps a lot! Before the vitamin powder, I barely made it 3 weeks!

I couldn't tell you specifically, only that it was through the internet. I was bouncing all over the place, and I couldn't honestly tell you if it was part of this website or somewhere else. If I find it again, I'll be sure to attach a copy.

Makross, there's one thing you did not mention or perhaps you didn't consider in regards to the hair loss.

GENES. I've seen guys with practically 1/2 their hair at age 25 and I've seen gal's in the same boat at 30. When you get em to look back, you'll find that someone lost all their hair. The gene is passed on through the mothers side of the family. I'm 100% crown bald. Started losing my hair when I was 30. While my father's side has no history of baldness (except for extremely thin hair in the senior years, my mother's side is loaded with baldies.

There are also tons of things that can cause hair loss out there. One may cause hair loss for one person, may not cause it for a thousand others. Plastics, GMO foods (just try to avoid em these days) shampoos, deodorant, make-up, laundry products. We're surrounded by chemicals, unnatural food additives and fillers, people with MLS and Oprah. The list goes on and on. But believe it or not, caffeine will cause hair loss. Some folks become overly sensitive to it quickly.

After 200 years of consuming kratom, you'd think that the people of SE Asia would know if kratom causes baldness, infertility, cancer or BSC Syndrome (BSC=Bat Sh*t Crazy). :P

I'd be more concerned to learn about the looooooong term affects of kratom use. I'm sure, but not positive that you'd have to burn an insane amount every day (like 30 grams) for years to get some serious issues, liver, brain, heart, kidney etc.

Personally I'm more frightened of ingesting saccharine in products like diet this, diet that. If it's sugar free or labeled diet.... Check the ingredients. It's likely to have saccharine. I'm still trying to figure out how something that has been proven to cause serious health issues like saccharine gets approved for use by the FDA and the DEA. Let's not mention that it tastes like crap (artificial). You know those alcohol free mouth washes. Artificially flavored with saccharine. Always leaves a lingering crap taste in my mouth. My dentist doesn't like the idea of em either.

See your doctor for sure. Maybe you'll want to stop burning kratom for awhile before doing drastic lifestyle changes and see if yer hair perks up first?

I don't have to burn kratom every day myself. I find that with my health issues, what causes most of the chronic pain is inflammation (which is caused by other issues). Kratom does a marvelous job as an anti-inflammatory whereas otcs like motrin and ibuprofen and motrin barely help. (in your face ibuprofen) plus you can't take them regular due to the long term health problems they cause (and yet the FDA doesn't try to outlaw them). I'm told kratom will stay in the body for 2-3 days. Sounds about right because after 4 days my pain returns. So 2 grams every 2-3 days does wonders for me. I have to be careful though because it's so dern effective on pain that I tend to forget that I have serious problems and I can easily cause more damage. So I'm going to play with 1 gram burns. My thinking is to experience a super low, very tolerable (barely discernable) level of pain to keep my stupidity in check .

It is my heart felt wishes that you find the hair thinning culpret soon and that it isn't kratom.
Happy Thanksgiving

Great post, Max! I only wish to add the dreaded progeria like little Edie on Grey Gardes. Sudden loss of all hair hit her in her mid 30’s out of nowhere. I don’t think there is a test for it, but ASK ASK ASK.

We need to advocate for ourselves out there. I find the leaf very helpful for advocating for myself when I would otherwise be hunched up in a corner saying, “I’m fine” if asked.

When we don’t feel well, who has energy to provide help to us?! I sympathize...

Hi! I'm not sure if you mentioned your age but i am a five-year, daily consumer of kratom (and in my late 5os). I started losing my hair like crazy about two years ago. That coincided directly with menopause/post menopause. I started taking Biotin daily for about 6 months now and my hair loss has decreased by 80%. And i haven't noticed any side effects from the Biotin.
