I woke up last Saturday with my arms and legs covered in pretty large out sticking hives, at first I thought it was an allergic reaction to frozen springrolls I ate, but over the days and through consumption I realized that Kratom really made my hives go absolutely crazy, they went from fairly annoying to literally covering my whole body around 4-5 hours after ingesting Kratom. I wanted to make sure it really is the Kratom so I stuffed my stomach with bread toss and washed ground Kratom and force vomitted it out an hour later to see what happens, that was 2 days ago and it gave me the worst reaction yet, whole body covered, small hives on my face and large ones on my whole upper body, legs and arms and for the first time my neck became red. I'm off Kratom for 48 hours now and I still have hives, though significantly smaller and alot less than before, I've been drinking prune juice to flush out any toxins left in my gut and I stopped taking Kratom but the hives still remain, even though alot less significant than they were before. I still get new red spots that are itchy, but the hives usually don't sprout up, it's a flat rash, might be noteworthy to say that I also tried to ingest natural antihistamine things like lemon juice for the vitamin C aswell as green and black tea. I've gradually reduced the Kratom consumption during the test period of whether they cause/increase the hives and it seems like the reaction got worse every time, even though total ingestion of Kratom was less. I'll go to a dermatologist tomorrow and ask her what she thinks the cause of the hives is, I assume it's not Kratom because I've been off it for literally 48 hours and the hives still remained, even though in a significantly weaker form, which is why I think the Kratom only increased histamine release and made everything worse. My current plan is to wait until the hives vanish and then try a very small dose of Kratom prepared as tea instead of toss and wash with the preparation to be ready to go to an ER in case Kratom is actually the cause after all. Also just as some background info, I've been taking Kratom for months and never had any problem with allergic reactions, it just flaring up out of control overnight seems rather suspicious, let's just say I really hope Kratom isn't the cause and I can use it again in a week or two.

Hello welcome to the forum,
I can't answer the hive issue but I am going to link you to a recent conversation about hives. I am not sure how relevant it is to your situation but there are responses by Bomalley on this topic thread and she is a retired nurse.

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, Blachloch,

In my experience, kratom aggravates hives.

Allergies to any substance is possible, but if you’ve been using kratom prior to the hives, definitely see a dr, discontinue the kratom and use alternative medications to relieve your discomfort.

I go wayyyy back with this scare when I was newly clean off opiates and very scared of going without kratom. My fear was unfounded and eventually I recovered. But hives are ALWAYS traumatic and I sympathize!

The case I had was so alarming to the dr, he sent me to a hematologist because he thought I had leukemia! No joke!

Hives are very serious. Discontinue kratom and follow dr instructions. Kratom will be waiting for you, but recovery is slow and tedious.

You will enjoy kratom again. Bonus prize: low tolerance!

Best wishes and let us know you’re doing ok but please don’t delay seeing a physician or reporting to an ER or 24 hour health clinic.

EDIT:
I guess you didn’t go to the clinic and handled it differently than I would have, I’m glad to hear you’ll see someone on a professional health care level. They obviously were not life threatening. The anxiety it causes us kratom users ALSO seems to aggravate the hives.

They take ages to fade fully.

If you get hives again, please do not put kratom in a ball of food and toss n wash! Not a good first line of defense-haha

Stress and anxiety are often the culprits and having hives causes stress and anxiety (PLUS DISCOMFORT kratom is perfect for!).

My sincere sympathies.
Another member had them here just a week ago and is likely still recovering.
I started a new medication yesterday that HAS given me hives in the past...so far I’ve dodged them...phew

Hope you feel better and let us know how you are!

Acute stress can cause many health issues. I am not claiming that this is the reason your hives acted up. I just offer it as a possible factor in any health related issues.

Hope you feel better soon...

I just woke up with puffy eyes and red cheeks and a forehead aswell as covered in hives, going to the dermatologist in an hour. Still haven't consumed any Kratom so it's definitely not that, I'm having an allergic reaction to something else.

That’s not a good way to wake up my friend ...

might be food/ medication/ chemical .... reaction,

I’ve never experienced hives before , have hope that you can widdle it down as to what the culprit is...

Yes , stress can express itself physically, no doubt, every person I’ve talked to who has experienced hives have had them on a few occasions which makes me wonder about food allergies/ food combination/ medication environment factors ...

Testing for possible allergic tendencies is a box to check off,

Antihistamines are symptomatic relief options for moment , taking a oatmeal bath may help some ..

Think of the day/ food eaten and places you’ve been recently leading up to this reaction, your body is working overtime to rid itself of some thing ....

I wish you good and fast healing . Im sorry you are having to go through this

Please keep us informed

Take care Blachlock. Thinking good thoughts and sending good vibes for you

Keep yourself cool, hydrate to help flush out..

Looking at stuff in the web...

Infections
Virus

Probably a good idea to Get your liver checked out?

I’m not a doctor , and I don’t know if this has happened to you in the past or what your age is ..

Just saying since you are gonna go see a doc... request for some of these things to rule other possibilities out of the equation

Take care

I went to a doc friday and she gave me a 50mg cortison shot after I showed her a picture of my puffy eyes and asked me the typical things like if I changed my washing powder and blah blah, which I didn't and I also didn't eat for 8 hours before that breakout so I don't think it's related to food. She also prescribed me Loratadine which I was supposed to take in the evening, which I did and have 0 hives now, not even red spots or anything. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know when to stop taking the loratadine though because I basically can't check if the hives are gone without quitting using it for 48 hours. What should I do now, use up the box of pills (7) with 5 remaining and then leave it be and check if the hives return? She didn't say how long I should take it either sadly.

I guess use your best judgment. Loratedine does not come in “hives” sized doses. It’s a very mild antihistamine found in Claritin. Only generic.

What a relief to be past them. Whatever the forever-unknown cause.
