Hi everyone...I am a former extreme sports athlete and have 3 herniated/bulging disks in my lower back that are EXTREMELY painful that I have used Oxycontin 80mg for many years now and it's allowed me to lead a NORMAL life. Plus I have a pinched nerve between C4/C5 that was so painful the opiates didn't help at all. I recently had an epidural that worked thank god for that. Unfortunately after trying that 3 times on the lower back over the years - it didn't work. So I've been fine using the Oxy and would have been fine staying on the Oxy, but we all know that there are people who abused meds, or didn't need them at all, and have ruined pain meds for those that TRULY have severe pain. Now my Dr. is telling me I have to basically eliminate the Oxy 80mg and he will only be able to give me a max of 4 30mg Oxycodone a day. In 20 years, I never took more than prescribed , gave them to anyone, or used them when not necessary. I was prescribed 3 Oxy80mg pills a day (~90 a month)….there have been days where I needed only 1 and days where I needed it 3 times a day. I work long hours on my feet and sleep at most 5 hours a day. I would also get 30 30mg Oxycodone usually every 3 to 4 months. Sometimes I go a week or two and don't need one sometimes I have a weekend like this past weekend where I helped my girlfriend move. After 8 hours I had that kind of BURNING pain that a time released pill can't help. The 30mg helped immediately.

So I saw the film a LEAP of FAITH on NETFLIX and was hoping this could not just get me off of the opiates but help with the pain. What I need desperately is to make sure I don't go thru withdrawals. Can someone please give me a straight answer what will stop withdrawals - I keep reading different answers. If the pain gets bad I'll take a 30mg Oxycodone....but I would like to see if I can first keep the cravings away SAFELY and then if it can keep the regular pain away - I would rarely need to use the Oxycodone 30mg. PLEASE PLEASE Advise - SPECIFICALLY I NEED TO KNOW WHAT VERSION RED, GREEN, WHITE, YELLOW, HOW MUCH, HOW OFTEN, ETC....WE NEED A KRATOM USERS GUIDE !!!!
God Bless All of You - Jeremy.

Welcome jpython-
First I will send you links to read if you haven't read yet-
Blog
www.ilovekratom.com/kratom-news-blog/57-...addiction-to-opiates

kratom 101
www.ilovekratom.com/forum/kratom-discuss...-oldies#.XH8NiohKiUn

Don't worry about a Kratom 101 Kratom is not a really one size fits all but most will have success managing pain preventing withdrawals taking control of our lives.

I am sorry to hear you are now part of this pain medicine forced taper bullshit. This forum is here to help.
You will start to get more responses soon.

You will need to chose a vendor or two and order your kratom, don't worry too much about strain names
Red is typically for pain management but some are sedating
Green can manage pain, great for mood lift, energy, stress relief.
Whites are considered for focus and energy.

You will need to order enough Kratom. Decide on powder or capsules(you will need many and its expensive)
A scale is recommended for powder dosing accuracy
Learn how kratom is taken- tea,add to water, toss and wash.
Learn your dose. Prior opiate use will mean a higher starting dose.
Read the information and then you can ask the questions you need to get started.
We can recommend vendors for you also.

I take kratom to manage spinal arthritis, history two back surgeries.

I would start with two or three red strains, and sample some greens. Your dose will be higher, I hate to make recommendations but 4 grams up to 8 might be a starting dose for you. Dose as often as needed until you find relief, for withdrawals this might mean every 3 - 4 hours. Only you can find your right starting dose Kratom is very subjective. You will need enough kratom on hand to make this kratom journey buy accordingly.

There are a few member currently going through similar issues I will step aside and let them make recommendations. I just wanted to set you up with the basics.

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, jpython!

Unfortunately there is no “one size fits all” with plant material. It’s nothing like your pharmaceuticals.

I find it more helpful, personally.

Nan70 lined you up with reading material and you’re best off to choose a sample pack of the basic strains from one of the ILK approved vendors to experiment with as you read.

Most cannot accept credit cards but e-check is the same as using your debit card. Start small because you’ll get an idea of how it works and what works FOR YOU quicker than it seems.

The further away from opiate use, the better the results. You should consider the withdrawal process for best results from the leaf.

Kratom is not for everyone. It takes a bit of commitment to patience with pain management.
Especially those used to the opiate lifestyle of overextending your physical abilities if not for the meds. You don’t sound ready yet. But read up on it, you never know!

Withdrawal is completely possible but NOT IF YOU’RE IN A HURRY. lol

We assist people with relatively simple transition from opiates to the leaf. But the switch really affects the mind as your feelings and emotions will
return and preparing emotionally for that is really necessary, in most cases.

Your current opiate doses (even reduced - I sympathize) are stronger than kratom will be even felt. So don’t bother with anything but research for now (see post above).

Please read more on the commitment for change and reconsider helping people move. No offense but that’s going to inflame your injuries. I used to abuse my medications by doing tasks i was not physically ready for also. Thus the cycle with pain meds, regardless of following prescription. NO JUDGEMENT INTENDED. Just the straight up truth.

If you decide to withdraw, let us know and we will walk you through proper preparation to success.

When you are ready, swing back in. We’re here for you :)

Good news is Kratom can and will help keep the symtoms of WD away. I recommend you oreder several Red strains and several Green strains, as well as gold and yellow. The biggest piece of advice is order from several different vendors and get several different strains from each of them. Keep your orders between 100-250 grams per strain. Don't order a Kilo of one strain or type. You need to have a lot of different Kratom options in order to get the benefits of Kratom. I know it sounds like a pain to do this but, I assure you you will thank me later.

Vendors who have HIGH Quality potent Leaf can be found in Find a vendor/Rate a vendor.

My personal favorites are Pharmacy Drop Out:( Amber Bali, Red Hulu Kaupus,Green Bali, Creme of the Crop)
Re-Leaf LLC: (Nerv Blend, Sedativo Blend, Brother of Borneo Blend, Green #1088)
Gold Leaf/In Sense Botanicals: (Chocolate Borneo, Chocolate Malay,Red Beautangie,Red Borneo,Kx Blend)
PA botanicals: (Original Fibro Blend, Emerald Green, Enhanced Blends)

These are some APPROVED Vendors and some strains that are Strong and I have tried personally..

Don't panic, just spend time reading past topics and posts on this Forum. You will learn a lot.

Remeber 10 different strains of 100grams is better than 1 kilo of any strain or color. You will nead variety if you are going to keep your Kraton experiences Fresh and Effective. Don't just order 3 kinds order 13 different kinds.

Good Luck...

With all the focus on addiction, this is exactly what I feared for many pain patients. I work with elderly patients, and back pain is a constant. It troubles me so much that so many suffer needlessly.
Pain medications were created because they are needed. And your case illustrates that so often, our society reacts to a problem by causing the innocent to suffer.

I also have low back pain, actually it sounds like my condition is similar to yours.
I take Diclofenic that is an anti-inflamatory and it really helps me. The brand name is Voltaren, available by prescription in the US. I get a cream from New Zealand that also helps. It is over the counter there. I know when you have bad pain you get to the point where you are willing to try anything.

And I am not giving medical advice, but I can share my experience. The doctor also prescribed me gabapentin. I take it on occasion, and although it is popular and seems to be in fashion, I am leary about getting a boatload of meds on board. I find it effects my balance. So I take it occasionally, but only at night. Managing our pain is like having a second job.
And of course Kratom. I am still experimenting with it, and for the most part, It does help with pain. So far, I haven't really had a bad experience. It is still on my list of "occasional". I take low doses, and only once a day in the morning.

Wishing you luck and keep posting. I am new here and I really appreciate having others that share their knowledge.

Hi liitlebear welcome to the forum,

Diclofenac barely prescribed any more very old school. Back in the day the best results from a NSAID med was Betrax which was taken off the market a long time ago. I switched to spinal cortisone injections for over a decade my rationale was to do the best to keep my pain medicine intake low. I realized for the future I cannot continue this course of treatment its not meant as a tool to manage chronic pain for a lifetime.(first surgery I was in my early twenties) Percs and Tramadol never helped me function, I was prescribed these medicines they ended up tossed in a drawer. Function first then pain control.
If I can manage my inflammation first I can manage my pain, this has become a 24/7 routine. Like you said its a job. Along with anti inflammatory diet, botanical herbs, PT,and kratom I have function back. Kratom has been one of the best anti inflammatory plants I have tried.
My episodes of burning shooting nerve pain have decreased to almost nothing. But I switched up my diet and added MSM enriched foods. Actually eating eggs daily has helped but this is another discussion for the health and wellness topic.
My little ramble- I just wanted to say doctors not treating pain should be a case of malpractice and I have barely seen any real advocacy that is making any changes. Government regulations probably protect them for any lawsuits, this is messed up and I haven't seen any progress.

Hi Littlebear3,

Great comments/advice. I also work with elderly people and the suffering is heartbreaking. But. Usually they are unwilling to consider any change besides taking ANOTHER pill.

I’ve seen opiate induced dementia twice. So taking a pill takes the joy of memories with long term use. I am not a researcher. But seeing it in otherwise very sharp minded people is jarring.

You were so right about the issue being a time consuming job. And hard work at that job, no less.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us and hopefully you’ll continue to.

Nan70 - I can't say thank you enough - I'm scared of tomorrow - Friday when my Dr. will no longer write the level I have been on for 20 years. I will get a smaller dose - but tonight I am ordering enough KRATOM to get me through the first month.

Without KRATOM - I was going to have to charge 9000 and take time I don't have off work - again my MAIN CONCERN is to be able to NOT HAVE WITHDRAWAL....I had it once before when I was in EUROPE and lost my bag - one week of hell I went through - so I just want to be able to function and mitigate the pain secondly.

Thanks and GOD Bless for your kindness....Jeremy

(SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS - I JUST WROTE THIS AND REALIZED AFTER I TYPE IT ALL)
TO ALL OF YOU - THE REAL CRIME HAS BEEN THE PEOPLE THAT GOT THE PAIN PILLS THAT HAD NO PROOF - NO HERNIATED DISCS - NO TRUE INJURY. UNFORTUNATELY I LIVE IN THE STATE AND THE COUNTY - BROWARD COUNTY FLORIDA - WHERE MANY OF THESE PILL MILLS WERE CREATED. THESE PEOPLE RUINED THE ABILITY FOR TEU PAIN SUFFERERS. FOR EXAMPLE. I SEE A DR. WHO MAKES YOU FILL OUT A 9 PAGE INTAKE FORM EVERY 3 VISITS YOU MUST URINE TEST, IF YOU HAVE NO PROOF OF BACK PAIN OR HE CONSIDERED IT MILD HE WILL NOT WRITE. A SECOND PAIN MANAGEMENT DR. HAD TO EXAMINE YOU AND AGREE.BOTH DR.'S HAD TO CONCLUDE THAT THESE PILLS WERE THE ONLY WAY. IT PAINED THEM TO CUT PEOPLE - BUT SEEING THE FAMOUS MEDICARE LETTER WITH THE "GUIDLINES" TO THEM MEANT COMPLY OR POSSIBLY BE INVESTIGATED. SO IT IS A SAD THING.
IN ONE WAY I AM GLAD TO FIND KRATOM AS AN OPTION - I JUST WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE - BELIEVE ME I WAS SPENDING A $1000 A MONTH ON MY MEDS - SO KRATOM MAY IN THE END SAVE MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT - I AM GOING TO TAKE ALL OF YOUR GREAT ADVISE - IA AM GOING TO POST MY FINDINGS AS I GO - MY HOPE BEING THAT I AM A HIGH DOSING OPIATE USER THAT I CAN FIND THE RIGHT BLEND/DOSE. I WILL KEEP A JOURNAL AND POST AS NECESSARY...I AM GOING TO ASK THOSE THAT PRAY - TO PRAY I CAN GET THRU THIS SUCCESSFULLY (YOU DON'T NEED TO POST THEM) - JUST KNOW A FELLOW NEW KRATOM USER IS FIGHTING THE BATTLE !!

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU GOOD PEOPLE!!
