This is worth a read because you mentioned tolerance. Many use turmeric as one of the many potentiators of kratom.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4352596/ (this not a study with kratom but still interesting)

I am extremely sleep deprived and nod off on occasion and I get a zap right before I awake from the unwanted nap. I get them always when I take akuamma extract, Never when I am trying to sleep in my bed but only when I fall asleep at my desk or on the sofa. My mind knows it has to wake me up to get me to move from where I am.

I noticed zaps from days of sleep deprivation when I am getting under 4 hours a day or if I take a sleep inducing herb. I tend to stay away from kratom strains that are overly sedative. Since kratom is subjective to the individual that means my "no fly" pile (kratom I do not like) is full of tried kratom that was mostly sedative and nothing else.

I have been taking Kratom successfully for over a year and half for spinal arthritis, I haven't changed my dose, I actually lowered it a bit. I would buy 500g only if you know you like the kratom and its the same batch. I rotate between greens and reds from different vendors, most I ever bought was 200 grams of one strain.

Welcome to the forum hope you find the information you are looking for or at least bounce around ideas.

Wow. I'm overwhelmed with your replies, thanks all. For the sake of economy of time, I'll just reply to the last post if that's ok. Good to know the phenomena is not unique to me, I didn't think so but since I hadn't seen it discussed anywhere I thought I'd bring it up. Yeah, those moments between waking and sleep have always fascinated me. It's an interesting time/space and anything can happen. Often I'll imagine I've slipped on a banana peel (or something) and lurch to recover my balance only to realize I'm already horizontal (surprise!). That's usually followed by a good laugh and I'll go from there. The "zaps" used to happen frequently when I was on "Lyrica" which I stopped a few years ago. It's a fact that in the larger context I am a newbie, that is to say, months of experience and not years as many here. As far as "variables" are concerned, they are vast, innumerable and dizzying and I hesitate to go down that rabbit hole. A cursory skip through this forum confirms for me that trying to distill a single "truth" from eavesdropping is like trying to grab onto a single blade of a rotating fan. It all reduces down to the immutable fact of the "individuality" of the kratom experience and that the very best that I can do is to digest as much as I can by reading about others' experience, let some underlying universal principles emerge as they will and apply them to my own situation. Now that I've offered the best reply I could come up with at this time, I will go back and review your replies to my original post and see where I have fallen short here and now. Thanks again all.

As USERNAMETAKEN stated, 500 grams are a great savings for multiple users (couples, families sharing product).

We can help you with deciding if that is something you need. More information on your use would be helpful for more suitable replies for you.

Hi, welcome to our forum.

Unfortunately Or better Yet Fortunately for Me I can’t say I’ve experienced this. If your new to kratom I don’t recommend buying 500 grams/half a kilo if you haven’t tried it before. When beginning kratom it’s best to buy samplers or a variety of 1 oz packages of various strains and different colors to see what works best for you.

As for tolerance if you take the same strain every day and/or dose multiple times a day with that one strain most people find it stops working completely or you have to take a lot more for same effect. It’s best to not only rotate strains but also colors and even vendors. I’ve been using kratom for over 2 1/2 years and I dose every day 3-4xs and I have yet to buy 500grams of one strain. That’s just me. I’m sure others have. So that we can assist you better plz provide more info. Edit: Sorry I read your post again and you say you’re not new to kratom. Plz elaborate further. Take Care!!

Those “zaps” are normal when many people fall asleep. Most don’t notice them. I had a boyfriend who had it rather constantly as his body was shutting down for the night, so it made me pay attention and sure enough, I have them also. The boyfriend has never consumed kratom.

Google brain zaps/spasms for all kinds of drugs being pointed at.

It’s bothersome to me (my problem) that every single illness or anything unusual is blamed on kratom FIRST. People blame kratom for high blood pressure, low blood pressure, losing weight, gaining weight, hives, headaches, hair falling out, loose stool, constipation (that one is earned!), acne, depression, anxiety, nausea, vertigo, etc.

Any of these can have other causes. But kratom users always immediately think, “kratom is ‘causing’...”. Please at least look at other aspects of life OR if you’re that concerned about side effects, don’t use kratom.

Definitely discontinue use as soon as you suspect a problem. You can ALWAYS restart it!

EDIT: this post is expanded for a larger audience. Nothing personal. Those sleeping spasms/zaps are natural for quite a few of us.

Sweet dreams ;-)

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, T4TWO!
Based on absolutely zero information, lol, sounds like you’re also a victim of taking too much! We have all been noticing that our brains want more powder consumed, but our brains WORK BETTER on smaller doses. I mean SMALLER. No matter if you’re a “husky” guy with a “killer workout routine” or whatever.

That just HAPPENS to be what we are all discussing and your symptoms are spot-on description of over sized dosing.

Remember. This is based on ZERO information you provided and taking big doses is EASY TO DO. No worries about defending yourself - this is not an attack or presumption but a wild guess based on what we have been grappling with and what you’re describing.

Definitely share more because whatever you’re going through sounds quite miserable and not likely what you were shooting for with the leaf. Better days ahead! Cheers!

Hey T4two!!

Well I’ve experienced that msybeb3-4!x over the two years of my kratom regimen... what strains are you taking? How many x a day and what amountbso you take ? Ive dosing 3-5 x a day 3 tsp a dose for over a year , just yesterday went down to two tsp and have that less is more effect... great energy and pain relief and moodboost isn't lacking at all either !!!

Just curious if it could be strain, dose size or frequency of doses in the day..=D> Or just chemistry or the source of the kratom... how do you take your kratom? Tea , caps , or powder ... down the hatch ?

So, I only experienced that in the first few months of beginning kratom and only a few times ... like electric zap that jolts you and gives your body a little jerk..??! I would be inclined to think it’s the source as it hasn’t happend to me in about 2!years and I have vendors I stick with pretty much exclusively for the most part... gotta branch out a little bit from time to time though hahaha!!

Interesting for sure, others will share their ideas and maybe help shine some light on this !!

Welcome again and happy you found our lovely community =D>

Take care

Another thought is how long have you been utilizing the leaf and how long before bed was your last dose ?? Any other prescription drug or rec drugs ??

Hope we can help narrow it down (L)

Not all that "new" to kratom - but once in a while I either have some in my system when I go down for a "nap" or just get sleepy all of a sudden and just upon transitioning into sleep mode I get "brain zaps" like one after the other in precise intervals. I know all I have to do is open my eyes or move a little but it seems like too much of an effort at the time and I think to myself, maybe it'll just stop. Eventually, if it is too intense or annoying enough I'll rouse myself and shake it off. I try to avoid going to bed on kratom for this reason. One more thing (different topic) why buy quantity if tolerance is an issue? I ask this because I am contemplating 500gms.
