Hello all,

I'm interested in starting an online shop that sells kratom products. I was wondering if any of you know of which licenses I would need to do this. I live in Washington state, and it is legal to sell here.

In addition to selling kratom products, I would also like to sell kratom resin that I would be making myself. I'm assuming that requires extra licenses, like having a certified home kitchen and all that.

If you know exactly which licenses I would need, or know of someone I should talk to about this, let me know! It would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I've searched through a good number of google results on this topic. The information is surprisingly hard to find :/

Hi Dr Khala,

Definitely get a vendor to teach you about the industry first. The cost of operating your own distribution (legally and professionally) is high and you need all CA$H to start.

I recommend you work as an affiliate for an existing vendor (bunches of vendors offer this) AND you’d be wise to get some experience with working LIVE IN THE TRENCHES. It’s a lot more elaborate than it appears.

Ask any vendor for suggestions. They’ll be happy to suggest where you would be able to learn the ropes and make a few bucks. I would definitely do THAT first. The industry is currently self-regulated and you can sneak around that for a good while IF you have a clientele established already. You cannot market your products in very many places due to discrimination and you’ll need ca$h up front for EVERYTHING for that same reason.

If you’re interested in this, just search “Affiliate” programs on vendor websites you find attractive to your taste/personality.

I’ll give you some names, but you need to do the legwork. It’s part of the journey. I highly recommend working with a US based vendor. Never dull!

So many vendors have affiliate programs. I cannot tell whose products YOU appreciate. Start with a favorite vendor and search under “affiliate” on their websites. Heck, you can google “kratom affiliate” and find a bunch.

The programs vary dramatically from vendor to vendor. I know people have been successful using Laughing Lion’s programs. But Matt is already stretched thin with all he DOES, I’m not sure you’d get the exposure to the vendor lifestyle by joining his. There are SEVERAL non approved ILK vendors offering programs and you really need to look at what affiliate MEANS to them AND seek someone who is able and willing to mentor you.

It’s not easy to do the research and decide who to invest time and money in that CAN BE HELPFUL.

Some people just DIVE IN and lay out gobs of cash to skip the learning curve. It’s a big gamble.

Start with deciding who you’ve enjoyed products and service with. They will be doing the investment into the clean room, sterilization, batch tracking, etc FOR YOU and eventually you gotta learn that part as well.

I hope this helps give you some pointers on what you really want to do. If you have the passion and the drive, you’ll do well.

These are only my personal suggestions on getting started. I do not have the stamina/energy needed to be in the kratom business AND there are a zillion other ways to go about it.

Check out the AKA website on the GMP compliance programs and see if you wanna do that stuff without the experience first.

Definitely there are a lot of VERY COOL options for serving the kratom consumer market and the people are a trip!

Most vendors I know personally and love have firsthand experience with being disabled at some point and the passion from having that experience snowballs! There is NO LIMIT to what you can accomplish so long as the constant legality stress doesn’t bother you too much. The leaf is almost always under imminent threat from some direction. Stressful.
