Life IS definitely better with kratom oh my gosh it practically saved my life! And I don’t have to “burn” as much as I used to. It is a luxury for me, so I gotta partake on occasion. It is great for so many health benefits. All around best beginner strain, in my opinion, is Green Malay.

hey SomethingSacred
You are very welcome. I've been dealing with this pain for 30+ years, way before the internet, and I can remember asking, no begging doctors for advice and most of them just shrugged their shoulders or wrote a script for oxy -- if I was lucky. More doctors shrugged their shoulders than wrote scripts for pain meds. But, I have been very fortunate to find some compassionate doctors and physician's assistants along the way who wrote scripts AND told me of non-drug approaches to living with pain. And I also read everything I could find about pain relief.

Even when surrounded by people who love you, no one can ever really know just how bad you feel. But at that point of extreme lonely agony, if you can keep telling yourself that it's not so bad; that today I feel better, whether that's true or not, will be far more productive than crying and complaining. I have done plenty of both. Our brains can be very powerful healers if we tell them what we want, ie, "I want to feel better!"

Every day I get up and try to smile when I look in the mirror. I put on decent looking clothes instead of walking around in my underwear, and I think positive thoughts instead of cursing my fate. Then I drink my first cup of kratom... And I do feel better. Then I drink another dose and I feel even better.

"What you can do, or can dream you can, begin it; boldness has genius, power and magic in it." Goethe

best wishes!
Randy

That’s some wonderful advice / suggestions Randy , appreciate you sharing this great info with the community :-bd (L)

I like the positive affirmations when talking your kratom dose , I can def work on doing that , as of now my thought when dosing goes like this “ I hope this one works better than not “ ...
Which isn’t negative ... but I do believe in the power of positive thinking / manifesting good things ...

Thx again my friend !!

Hi Debbie,
I use a simular muscle relaxer, tizanidine (sp) because Baclofen didn't work as well for me. For relaxation I like Red Bali, Red Agatha, and yellow maeng da. I use Yellow MD during the day and Red Bali at night to sleep. I have tapered off huge doses of oxycodone (300 mgs daily at one point) and I used kratom along with a lower dose oxy, ie, instead of an 80 mg oxy I would cut it in half and take it along with 1 tspn of oxycodone. You may need more or less of kratom, so experiment. It took me several months to taper off, so give yourself plenty of time.

While I did get off the oxy completely, I have only been able to lower my dose of tizanidine, not stop it completely. I would love to stop tizanidine completely but that may not be realistic for me, and it may not be realistic for you to stop baclofen completely either.

But certainly give it a try. Kratom affects everyone a little differently, so try different strains until you find what's right for you. For pain I've found white maeng da, red maeng da, yellow maeng day, and green riau to work best for me during the day. At night Red bali and red agatha work best. So far. I do keep trying new strains as I can afford them.

Good luck with whatever you do. One other thing, whenever I take kratom I always say out loud "this is going to work" and during the 15 to 30 minutes kratom takes to start working I also say positive things while I'm waiting. This may sound silly to some, but our brains can be very powerful pain relievers too. You just have to use it.
good luck,
Randy

Nice to meet you Debbie , welcome to the ILK community :)

It’s hard to give advice on when the best time to introduce kratom would be ... but I’d say start as soon as your ready . Your primarily looking for night time aid for sleep ? Usually reds tend to be more relaxing ( but for some, they are energetic) , as well as bentuangie(fermented kratom).

I’m not very familiar with your ailments , but kratom can def be of help with a wide range of pain conditions . I was taking prescription for depression and anxiety after I stopped pain meds for chronic pain...kratom had helped so much that I now only take kratom , and a few other herbs on occasion. Incarvilea sinensis, Chuchuhuasi, corydalis and Akuamma are all very helpful in reducing pain, corydalis and Incarvilea (for some folks ) gets you relaxed and ready for bed along with pain reduction.

It’s always a bummer when the docs throw meds at you that aren’t cutting it , and then the need to slowly taper off of them can take some time ... but very good to taper , dropping a med cold turkey can be dangerous, especially ones in the diazepam family .... good job on beginning this process , please let your doc know if there’s something of concern your experiencing.

I’m very happy you found this friendly and supportive group, if you have any questions about vendors to purchase from ,one of us here will most likely have some experience with them and can offer up suggestions.

Stoked to have you and I’m hoping you can get some solid benefit from all the info shared here!

Take care

Brandon

Hello, my name is Debbie and I've had ALS for 4 years. When my pain with the disease started I was gullible with the Dr.'s and agreed to meds which do not agree with me, all I want to do is sleep. I'm on 20 mg. of Baclofen 3x a day, and .05 clonizipan 1x a day. I have had Kratom before when I used to work out, but to use it with a taper is new to me. If anyone has thoughts, I would truly appreciate to get my plan formulated. I'm already cutting the midday dose of Baclofen. Suggestions on when to introduce the Kratom? Thank you for any suggestions you can give me.
