I figured I should start a new thread for this question....
I have a lot of variables ...

1 my doctors don't care a bit. they don't want to spend an extra minute
2 Kratom is illegal in Rhode Island here....
3 Being off pain meds means I mighty be able to try non-benzo hypnotic sleep aids that they won't give me no... now they just give me anti depression drugs...I could actually get benzo drug again because of not being on pain meds but now they only give you a month...not like when they kept me on them for 7 years... I would like to stay off them....and like I said there is a class of non benzo. ambian Lunesta sonata that they haven't let me try because of me being on the pain meds...

Obviously they can test me and see im not on the pain meds....but do you think they will actually believe I took one dose of Kratom and quit 3 years of pain meds...

I feel I am going to get a lecture about Kratom being addictive and untested yada yada yada.....
And it will give them a reason to lecture me from their high horse and dismiss my concerns...

I more than likely will just blurt out the truth and tell them because I cant Lie. Plus I am so dam proud of myself and the Kratom..

I figured maybe someone has a link to a similar discussion about what to how and what to tell doctors....

Thank You

if you are most comfortable being up front just do it. Im in CT and self medicated on and off with alcohol and marijuana well into my 30s. I was honest with my docs cause if they check blood/ urine theyre gonna find out anyways. I went to college in RI what a beautiful state. and were proud of you too! a lot of people go the other end from what ive seen. methadone, suboxone, and of course devils snow, heroin. anyone that doesn't see what you've done as a victory can go freak off

I do not disclose my kratom use fo those handling my electronic files. Sadly. This bothers me a lot. But that’s been my decision thus far :-(

I don’t recommend others do as I do AT ALL. I felt it important to share what I do.

I simply do not expect that information to be used to my benefit as yet.

This is absolutely difficult for me to do as a very welcoming and transparent person with a wonderful nurse practitioner who cares about me.

But, electronic files are forever....

It is up to you on weather or not you want to inform your doctor about Kratom but if hes not knowledgeable about all he will do is tell you that its dangerous and not good for you and he will tell you that education is not bad which is complete bull. A couple of years ago I was self medicating with alcohol, at first it worked wonders for my pain then it began to make me really sick to the point that I had to get of because my body was asking for it. I then used marijuana as it is legal here. MY doctor was ok with marijuana he said it was safer than pain killers but I had to get of that too because of work.

I do not tell my doctor. I have had my doctors switch five times in the last 6 years because they kept leaving the practice to move somewhere better I guess. Unless I have developed a good relationship and trust with a doctor I only want the blood work a check up and I'm out.
Kratom is under attack daily and I do not trust that some random idiot will put drug seeker on my records.
I brought up herbal supplements at my recent visit and the doctor was so uninterested.

RI. What a backward state. I should know. I was born and raised there. ;) I moved to Georgia 25 years ago.
All my family still lives there. (That's why the state is backward) I'm curious if RI is going to legalize marijuana.

I mentioned in another post that I recently told my neurologist about kratom and he never heard of it and basically said if it is working to get rid of my headaches the use it. If it stops working then come back and we will keep trying new prescriptions.

I definately would not mention it to my employer though. No idea what they would do.
My Grandkids say I’m a cuckoo head. ;)

yup RI is the most corrupt backwards place there is...I moved out1974 at 18 to Florida and the Caribbean islands then to Colorado in 1981 then to Switzerland for 7 years then came back to RI for 4 years then to Holland for 6 years.. then to Maine for a couple years then back to Florida keys for a couple years then to Costa Rica for 6 years.. Then came back here and got cancer 8 years ago and sort of am stuck because I got all my treatments done here and im disabled now... the marijuana or the CDB doesn't help me thats kinda of what I was thinking about the Kratom that it was just some like chamomile tea herb that wouldn't really do anything...I am 5 days now from my first dose of just trying Kratom I haven't touched a pain pill after being 3 years on them... I still don't believe it....I really am confident I have the pain meds licked. with the Kratom ...... now I have to concentrate on the insomnia...

I have no plans to tell my doctor or therapist. My Therapist asked me if I tried CBD, and I have. I did not notice any particular result. But the therapist is pretty open to alternatives. I may approach the subject by asking if he heard about Kratom, without admitting I am using it.

My medical doc is great, but I don't want to even broach the subject with him. He is a bit strait-laced, and has been great at helping me get off alcohol. I also started using alcohol as self medication and landed in detox. So, he was great about working with me for dealing with back pain without using opiates or benzos.

So, it is up to you as to how much to reveal. Once you start working with someone you like, you could ask them if they heard anything about CBD or Kratom. Just say you saw people posting about it online.

Considering that Kratom is under attack, I really do not want it on any official record that I use it.

Thanks little bear that's a great way to bring it up asking them if they have heard about it...Thats perfect....The Benzo's are my big concern now...Like I said its day 5 and io haven't had a thought about taking a pain med....
But they had me on Ativan benzo for 7 years and nothing else helps in the tiniest bit and all the anti depressants they are giving me make stuff worse... I need sleep Benzo's are bad but no sleep for 11 months is worse...There is a class of sleep meds just below Benzo's called Z drugs hypnotics .....Ambein Lunesta sonata that they won't let me try that are supposedly not as bad as benzos....ive done a lot of reading on the Benzo's... The. Ashton Manual is the Bible of benzo research and information I read the horror on the BenzoBuddies forum..
.But the Cognitive behavior Therapy AKA talking about it...doesnt help... I got 2 3 day no sleep. but I cant do anything as soon as I try to do something a million thoughts of a million other things I have to get done overpower me.. I don't want to share my personal/business life problems because you wouldn't believe them.....
.I look at problems mathematically....... so number one was addicted to pain meds. and I have that beat now... number two is sleep I gotta try the ambient Lunesta sonata not as bad as benzo sleep stufff. I think ..

to. tell the truth. I had stage 4b inoperable cancer 8 years ago I had a grapefruit coming out of my n neck they didn't want to treat me.. they got me in trials and had to do treatment in reverse. so they had to do induction chemo first. one year of 3 different chemos Taxol carbo platinum and Erbitux and it worked it got smaller. so then the could do radiation... I got 72 grays. I had double radian treatments everyday ... normal i36 grays once a day for 3 months plus they brought back Cisplatin Chemo and gave me that all thru radiation.. they had stopped using cisplatin on people because of the massive side effects but it was the most effective if you could live thru it... and I did.... then they did a radical neck disection /cut of half my neck. on the skin that had just been irradiated..I as on a feeding tube for 3 years and pain meds and they put me on Ativan...
I ran a business and drove to every appointment and functioned great all thru it.. After 3 years they pulled the pain meds and I didn't have a problem but they left me on the Ativan ..And I continued to function great... for 3 more years ...then 3 years ago I had disc problems in my neck they wanted tom operate and fuse them but they decided my neck would be able to handle it and they put me back on pain meds. and I was still on the Ativan and running businesses and doing more than most humans....
Then a year ago they just pulled me of the Ativan and left me on pain meds and its been hell....Yes the benzos are bad but they worked for me for 7 years and I didn't have a problem. yes they may cause me some dementia later in life but I am 63 and need to fuction now... if I get dementia in a few years I don't care ..ive been in hell for 11 months now.....Plus I see stories on BenzoBuddies of people being on them for 20 years and being taken off them and functioning....

My next big problem to solve4 is I need sleep...And yes everything has bad side effects but so does not sleeping....
I can sort out the benzo problem next year after ive gotten some sleep and straight back......

I am jut typing this all out so the words go thru my head so I can be prepared for the doctors....
When I tell them I am off the pain meds.... Which they can test and easily see is true.....
Then like everyone sees to be suggestioning I won't bring up the Kratom....I can say I tapered down and I have an old prescription bottle for Ativan the last one they gave me and i have a 4 pills left in it and I could say I took some off those while tapering down... And now I need them to stay of the pain meds or let me try some ambian Lunesta sonata stuff......
And like you said if I feel the need to bring up Kratom ..I will just ask if they have heard about it....
I know they are just going to think I want and am trying to get benzos an d will try to keep me off them...Which they are right it would be ideal.... But I am not a functioning human at the moment.....And getting of the pain meds is a huge step...
I need to level off for a bit and live to fight another battle another day........thank you...

unless a dr. has proper knowledge on a substance they cant write a script for i dont tell them about it. they go off what pharma reps and the media informs them.
my previous dr. i tried to tell him about a Peptide..,which is just a chain of amino acids..,that heals injuries safely and fast. Being that i power lift and train with heavy weights in the gym i've used it several times and did a lot of research on it.
the dr. was misinformed regarding the peptide and his solution was a cortisone shot which did nothing and take 6 wks off from training legs in the gym. Which would atrophy the muscle in my legs, not address the issue with my knee, and no assurance that it would heal my knee. so that would have been counter-productive and a waste of time and pain.
Even though my current dr is great i would not inform about my kratom use.

in regards to sedative-hypnotics such as ambien, Lunesta and sonata they are meant to be used for short term use of about 2 wks. but drs keep pts on them.
i have used them, benzos, anti-depressants for sleep as i have had chronic insomnia since i was in my teens.
Ambien, lunesta, and the like do have srs side effects and did not work for me. Not saying they wouldnt work for you. But make sure you do some research on them so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
Insomnia would dictated my life. If i didnt get sleep my next day was ruined. it is truly a miserable exp. and can cause srs medical and mental condensations.

Since ive been using kratom i am sleeping again. But i am still taking trazodone..,an anti-depressant..,which i was prescribed for sleep. that by itself did not work.

once i took kratom i figured i wouldnt need the trazodone anymore. my primary dr said i would be able to wean off them quickly.., yeah right if it was only that simple.
after being on anti-depressants for the past 15 yrs straight that didnt work. so i will eventually come up with a plan to slowly wean off them.
i decided to get off of gabapetin that i started taking back in 2006 to deal with the restless leg syndrome that was a side effect from seroquel.
the past wk as been difficult and i couldnt figure out what was wrong. then i googled gabapetin withdrawal and boom there where all the symptoms i was having.

again another thing kratom is actually helping me with that is another blessing. if not for the kratom i would prob. just be laying in bed miserable for a wk.
