It is important to remember that Kratom is subtle. What is the definition of "getting much". For me, pain relief and a slight mood lift is all I want.
If he wants euphoria, that will be a different story. Some use Kratom for that, but they tend to need higher doses. And with higher doses comes potential for addiction. Just calling it like it is.
I keep doses low and treat it like a medication. Just keeping me on track to functioning normally, not getting high. When people like me skip a day or two of Kratom, we don't tend to experience hellish withdrawal.

But when you chase the dragon and start taking high doses, that is always a possibility. Trading one hell for another by a different name.

We all need to be realistic about what we want from the leaf and dose accordingly.

hey kowl im glad you found us. all these people have given you great sound advise. my husband got off suboxone thanks to the leaf. green strains worked the best for him in the beginning but now gravitates more to a red. but the red strains don't make him sleepy like they do me so I would recommend blending your own as well. let us know if you have any other isues

Please make sure he also reads up on kratom, does some research, and knows how to make doses for himself.

I agree that a Red Strain is better to start. Not all are sedating. I would buy both Reds and Greens to sample and order from a trusted vendor check out the reviews here. Yes he wants the energy, but first is first kicking the pills and managing withdrawals, kratom will not be as simple as white is good for energy so that's what he should try.

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, kowl86!

Patience with the process is essential. White may aggravate anxiety that comes with stopping opiates. Reds, as stated would be a better choice. You got excellent advice already. Keep checking back to let us know how y’all are.

Hey kowl86,

Gmantheman has some great suggestions ,

Have your boyfriend start tapering his subtec and alternate doses with Kratom , the times he’s due for subtec, take Kratom ... when time to dose again with subtec take a lower dose of subtec, next dose time .. just Kratom and so on...

Many many people have utilized Kratom to get off of opiates, he can do this !!! Like Gmantheman said, reds are historically used for stopping opiates but adding white vein to the dose can help with energy...

The best he will experience at first may be the lack of or lowered WD symptoms, once he’s stopped taking the medication more of Kratom’s attributes will start to be felt.. moodboost, energy and pain relief, he may feel mostly normal , given that he’s stopping his meds that’s a great thing to feel... normal

I personally didn’t use Kratom to come off opiates but what I suggest is based on many who have that I’ve read in this community.... I enlisted the help of Kratom to get off antidepressants and anxiety meds that came from chronic pain ... and since using kratom I haven’t desired pain meds either because it’s helped so much with my spinal arthritis...

This beautiful leaf can be a great tool , and experimenting to find what works is the work needed to be done .

Source from trusted quality vendors, this site has many vendors that are vetted and vouched for ... here’s a link

Others with more suggestions will add to this . Thanks for reaching out to help your boyfreind, life off of opiates is a good thing , addiction is hard but Kratom and support from this community can help get him through it !!

Take care

More than likely he will need to up the dosage. 1 teaspoon is about 2.2 to 2.8 grams. People going trying to get off opiates may need up to 6 to 8 grams. Also people seem to have more luck with red veins for getting off opiates. Green veins may work as well or he could blend vein colors such as 3 grams of white and 3 grams of red.

My boyfriend has been addicted to pills (something called tec, subtec?). It’s an opiate. He said he wants to stop, but is afraid of withdrawal. He says he is looking for energy similar to what adderall would give and also doesn’t want to get sick from not taking the pills. I researched quite a bit on Kratom and ordered the white maeng da. He took 1 teaspoon this morning and 1 teaspoon this afternoon but isn’t seeming like he’s getting much out of it. What should be our next step??
