I've been using Kratom for about two years now. My regular dose was around a level tbsp unpacked powder mixes with roughly 1/8tsp citric acid powder. Various strains. I know weighing it is better but I just tend to make a mess when I do that. My vendor has been mitragaia (Gaia ethnobotanicals) for this entire time. So about six months ago, I began to notice that my eyes hurt when I dose. I get migraines from time to time and it resembles when one of them starts to come on. Like my eyes are swollen and inflamed or something. It's very uncomfortable. Eye drops help to alleviate it some, but they are far from perfect. I then reduced my dose to half a tbsp and had the same problem. I went online and found some less than savory stuff about MitraGaia but little info on what I'm feeling. Some indicate that their quality has dropped in recent months. I thought it might be "wobbles" but the symptoms just don't seem to match up. Anybody know what this is or how to stop it? I'm considering trying another vendor to rule that out.

Welcome to the best kratom forum ever, Bean!

Sorry to hear you stopped in for a concerning health condition.

They are not an approved vendor on this site, so you may need to check around other forums where their customers are actively commenting.

Plus I would ASK THE VENDOR because it sort of sounds like you’re having an allergic reaction to the powder and there might be something added to it? <—-far fetched. I doubt it is the kratom, since you are not new to using kratom.

You very well could be you’re allergic to SOMETHING ELSE and the histamines in kratom are getting aggravated when you dose.

For example, when we get hives or other signs of allergies, it’s important to DISCONTINUE KRATOM because it has histamines that aggravate the rash or whatever symptoms you have. That’s why people take ANTI-histamines to treat allergy symptoms. Kratom is the LAST THING YOU NEED for allergies. We’ve learned this by trial and error.

Definitely DISCONTINUE that batch FOR NOW. Hopefully you have other choices lying around.

If it happens with another vendor/strain, you gotta discontinue kratom use until you determine what you’re allergic to. Then TRY AGAIN like every other day or so and hope for the best, REPEAT.

I’d ask other forums if they’ve gotten additives in their kratom from that vendor, but I bet it is not the kratom but a symptom of an allergy to SOMETHING ELSE.

Gee, I hope you find out what the deal is. Please report back any updates. Hopefully someone else will comment on their experience with your vendor. But you’ve never had problems with them before, right?

Sorry to hear about this discomfort you’re struggling with. Keep us posted?

Have you had an eye exam within a year or two to rule out glaucoma?

I'm taking the allergic reaction possibility seriously. Only problem is that my next kilo is already in the mail and that is supposed to last me for a while. :/ It's been a while since my last eye exam so that might be a possibility. However... I think I figured it out. In my reading, I discovered that kratom is a diuretic. I take hydrochlorothiazide (hctz) as part of my blood pressure treatment. It's also a diuretic. And I drink coffee which is again a diuretic. Finally, I take an antidepressant, which is known to interact with diuretics to produce hyponatremia (low blood salt) and dehydration. Low blood salt and dehydration can cause ocular hypotension (low eye pressure), which can make your eyes hurt deeply. Long story short, I started taking a small amount of salt (~1/16th tsp) and upped my water intake and like a miracle, the eye pain vanished within an hour. It would have started about 6 months ago because that's when it started getting hot out. I hate hot weather and my workplace is only semi-air-conditioned. So I tend to sweat a lot, exasperating an existing dehydration/low salt issue. I have overall been quite happy with mitragaia. They're fast and have good prices. They seem to have a good product, but I'm going to try another vendor for a proper frame of reference. All of this is 100% anecdotal so I don't recommend anyone go and eat salt or anything. Too much of it is obviously going to be a bad thing. I'm treading lightly but it's been almost a day now and I have had no problems whatsoever. Hey, I'll take it.. Maybe this will wind up helping someone having the same issues. I'll update as time goes on but I was excited and wanted to share my experience thus far.
