Now I'm still trying to get the difference between the kava kava root and if it's different from kava root extract. I'm not quite sure which one is more beneficial when taking in addition to kratom in order to potentiate it. (plus I have been looking for natural anti-anxiety medicines so that aspect is desirable as well.)
So I did try some kava root extract from Amazon, says it's 30% kavalactones, they were recommending 600mg as a serving size also. I havent noticed it do much but placebo and it did get terrible ratings the last month before they actually took it off Amazon. I believe I was duped. :/

So I feel I can definitely get a better deal. I also do not even want to try it as a drink, or as anything else besides a capsule. I have enough weird powders I have to mix.

So my point is, where can I get great but budget friendly kava extract? Everyone is just so high $$ wise. Found a couple through Google search that seem like a decent deal but I wanted some of the communities thoughts and didn't see anything when I searched here. I do have a capsule machine for some 000s but I really hate using it tbh. Have to pack it down so many times, that I only have the patience to make about 36 at a time. (2 batches of 18) so what do y'all recommend? I wouldn't mind capsule and powder recommendations though just to compare. May be worth the savings!
Hope y'all are having a great week!

This is outside of my knowledge area somewhat but the only kava I find worth bothering with is the 90% kavalactones from PDO (Pharmacy Drop Out). But it IS very expensive and out of my budget range for long term use.

There are others here with more to offer on the topic. Especially from Babel-17 and Madmax. They have both posted on the topic recently.

Thanks Laurie, I saw one website with some but there's also a big variety (even different kinds/types? Almost like kratom strains) of recommended doses too. From about 300 up to 1000. I'll just start low and experiment up, because whatever I have is weak. My heart rate has actually increased since taking an extra one to see if I feel any relief.

I use Nature's Answer Kava 6 which I get through Amazon. Funny enough I got a delivery of it just today. I was/am down to just a few left in the last jar, and I took that as an excuse to take a break from it, and other herbals that work on the GABA receptors.

Theoretically one shouldn't need breaks from Kava when it's used in moderation as it actually promotes the GABA receptor it "tickles" to stay in good shape. But as the saying goes, "In Theory There Is No Difference Between Theory and Practice, While In Practice There Is".

Kava breaks are a piece of cake though, and somewhat like going without chocolate, if you really like chocolate and have it daily. It's a bit different for really heavy users (lol, same as with chocolate!), but still quite manageable, and I don't notice anyone fretting about taking Kava breaks.

Herb Pharm sells an alcohol based extract that I've used extensively, and can also vouch for. Lol, I should probably still use it, but it uses roughly 90% pure/180 proof organic grain alcohol as the carrier/menstrum, so that's one more thing to think about if taking it before going out the door. Paranoid thinking as the small amount of alcohol per dose wouldn't get me into trouble, but still.

Edit: While high proof alcohol can sting your mouth, part of the allure of using alcohol based extracts is that if you hold it in your mouth, especially under your tongue, the stuff absorbs really quickly, and even if just swallowed it absorbs quickly and totally as the alcohol carries the kavalactones into your bloodstream.

Ha, Amazon shows me as having thirteen pages worth of Kava orders, and I used it for years before signing up with them.

Some other names of brands that I liked: SOURCE NATURALS Serene Science Kava, Natural Balance Happy Camper Kava Kava Root Extract, NOW Supplements Kava Kava Liquid Extract (only 30% alcohol), Natrol Kava Kava, Herb Pharm Kava Root Extract (capsules), and Gaia Herbs Kava Kava Root - Vegan Liquid Capsules.

I usually switched brands based on the amount of kavalactones per dollar, but some brands do offer that something extra, and they tantalize with promises of getting the full spectrum of Kava goodness out of the root by way of how they extract it, and the carrier that they package it with.

Edit 2: Oh my, all this Kava Kava talk. :) I just checked and the 4 oz. bottle of Herb Pharm I bought a while back has gone up in price, except that its Subscribe and Save (which with Prime I get, and used last time) price has gone down. It almost seemed wasteful and ungrateful to not schedule a Subscribe and Save order, so I did. Should be at my door by October 5. Thankfully I long ago gave up on my profligate ways! The expensive ones anyway. ;)

Kava comes in different strengths.....

30% which is pretty weak
50% which is still not real great
70%-75% which is pretty much top of the line

should be water soluable, if i am not mistaken....

don't know of a cheap vendor though...
hope this helps

I forgot to mention: Even with capsules, or tablets, I never swallowed them whole. I always bit into them and let them dissolve in my mouth. Getting that bit of numbness in the mouth is part of my ritual. The Bulk Supplements powder, while really affordable, proved too challenging due to its low kavalactones content to really experience that, and that's partly why I moved on from it. The tablets were soft enough that I could chew them up, and they reminded me of chewing Good and Plenty candy. It was worth the chewing as that brand gave a really nice mouth numbing.

Yeah, I had some awesome paste that was like 70 - 80% pure and you melted that in your mouth to really nice effect. Very expensive though!

kava-kava, and kava, get used pretty interchangeably as far as I know.

Kava, like kratom has many different strains. The stuff you get from Hawaii is different than the stuff found in Papua New Guinea. You've outlined extract, but there is also micronized and non-micronized powder. Micronized you can readily mix, the non-micronized, you tend to have to use it in tea bags or strain like loose leaf after you make.

Extract is refined Kava, 20-1 is for every 20g of Kava, 1g of extract is made, leaving the good stuff. It is usually more concentrated.

Another thing to keep in mind is that kava tends to have reverse tolerance. It takes dosing for about a week before you start feeling it. It tends to not really potentiate kratom, but has different effects that can be perceived as more intense when taking both together.

There's lots of budget vendors out there.

I spoke of bang for the buck, and a product that works in a similar fashion to Kava is Skullcapextract, and if you compare prices per serving, it can be a lot more affordable. They both target the GABAA receptor. Though they both do other things as well.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GABAA_receptor

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutellaria

Some of us here use it, and IIRC we all got it from In Sense Botanicals, which is an approved vendor on this forum.

insensebotanicals.com/product/skullcap-powder/

I alternate it with my Kava, so as to miss out on their individual benefits, though they share the same main one, imo. And interestingly enough, the full spectrum versions of them both act as dopamine re-uptake inhibitors, which can positively affect mood.

For Kava: "Inhibition of the reuptake of norepinephrine (by kavain and methysticin) and possibly also of dopamine (by kavain and desmethoxyyangonin)."

For Skullcap: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroxylin_A "Oroxylin A is an O-methylated flavone, a chemical compound that can be found in the medicinal plant Scutellaria baicalensis[1] and the Oroxylum indicum tree.[2] It has demonstrated activity as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor"
