I have been using kratom for about 1 year to help with an injury and increased production while working. I've been trying to learn more about it as much as possible, because there are still lots of unknowns for me and it's side effects, so I still feel a little skeptical about it.
A while ago I switched from capsules (8-16 once a day) to powder (2-5 g), and even with the lower doses the powder has more of an effect but it doesn't last as long. Does the added potency present any extra side effects or possible risk?
I try to keep it to one dose a day, using as little as possible.
Is it true kratom can harm your liver and/or kidneys? There have been a couple times when I felt a mild pain for a few seconds in my lower left gut after taking a kratom dose. What might this be...should I be worried? I don't take any other kind of medications or herbs regularly besides turmeric.

I recently started mixing turmeric powder with the kratom dose. This might sound strange, but I'll just pull 1-2 turmeric capsules open and pour the powder in. for any reason, should I avoid doing this? It seems like it enhances the effect most of the time. and for whatever reason it seems like side effects that may have occurred before, such as having to go to the bathroom more, are lessened with the turmeric powder mixed in. Has anyone else experienced any positive effects by mixing turmeric with the kratom dose? Are these 2 herbs meant to work well together?

hey fastkawi!

glad you found us. sorry I cant pop up threads but if you use the forum search- top tab on the right and just type in turmeric you will find a lot of reading material! I think turmeric is a potenator. I also always take akuamma at least a half hour before I take my morning kratom dose. that makes it work better too. just make sure you add black pepper, better for absorption. some kratom shops even sell great quality turmeric ( like in sense/ gold leaf ) I get a lot of herbals from them.

I had gut pains in the beginning. your bodys getting used to ingesting a whole lotta leaf. I used to split up my dose to make it more gut friendly. but your system gets used to it. at least I think that might be it. im no Dr!

your experience will grow vastly on this forum. you will like it here! poke around threads when you have the time. I use kratom to manage pain while working but im on a planned break with stem and vein and not working right now. remodeling where I work. anywhoo im rambling. bed time.
please don't be afraid to ask specific questions. really no questions are off limit here. hard to get by with just gooble searches!

i just made a thread about turmeric dulling my burn and not really potentiating it while making me feel weird. i've also experienced the weird organ pain, but it was never a sharp pain, but a bloated and dull pain (like expanding and about to explode). I felt this whenever i took more kratom than my usual dose and usually around the time of the onset of the burn, so i'm convinced i can attribute it to the kratom. This sensation was definitely more present with my higher doses though (especially anything over a tablespoon aka 6g) and i shouldn't have been taking that much. I dont remember feeling it with my lower doses.

hey cray...

yeah turmeric can be funny. like kratom. gives me weird heartburn sometimes so I cant take it daily. I prefer akuamma as my morning dose potenator. more stomach friendly for me at least.

and yes I think youre right, the pains generally are more likely to happen at larger doses. I don't get it any more. but then again im on a full break so im hoping my doses will be more 'average' soon!

no more turmeric for me. i've heard good things about akuamma but have yet to try it. where do you get it from?

I care more about running out of akuamma than kratom. seriously. best places I know bang/ buck are insense/ gold leaf, fused flora, and Bennis. it is super duper nasty bitter so I recommend capping it. 2-4g is a safe dose with most. I take 2g most times. unless pain is higher. you can buy it capped but its sooooo much more expensive. ive heard people buy it from mass online sites and been happy, but I personally prefer to cap my own.

Incarvillea senesis (sp?) we call it IS sometimes here..is another great pain reliever for daytime.

corydalis and skullcap are also great nighttime pain relievers. help you sleep, too. and have health benefits of their own. im on a short break from work, and only taking stem & vein for moderate pain when needed, and been fine with these herbs alone.

thank you. does IS have the same effects as kratom? how would you differentiate it? also, is it as cheap as kratom dosage per cost wise? have you only used IS instead of using it WITH kratom and how was it? sorry for all the questions.

hey cray,

everones reaction may be a bit different to all kinds of herbs. hard to tell what will work for you as there are no guarantees. ive read the chemical compound in akuamma is similar to kratom. but I can take kratom, IS and akuamma together on really ouchie days and be fine.

check out in senses website. most of their 'other herbals' are really reasonable, cheaper than kratom on average. if an ounce costs 3 bucks or so and in taking 2g at a time it lasts a bit. but I buy 4 oz at a time.

to ME akuammma is like a ibuprofin/ acedomenophen just takes the edge off and helps with pain and inflammation. IS can sometimes make people sleepy. but it doesn't with me unless I take a lot and am already relaxed/ tired. like a small dose of a red.

right now im taking akuamma 2X day, IS 3-4X week, white willow bark, shilajit (60% fluvic acid ), and chuchhuassi bark ( sp ) 1X day. also a boswellic acid based multi. white willow bark is the basis for engineered asprin. another pain stacking herbal. but all of these carry their own set of unknowns. another member found out the hard way hes allergic to white willow bark.

shilajit, boswellic acid and chuchu are good for overall great health, inflimation, and immune support. but they are more expensive. but im only taking maybe 1/2g-2g a day so to me its worth it.

I recommend anyone before starting anything 'new to them' do as much research as they can and weigh benefits/ side effects. see whats best for them! youd be surprised what you find with specific gooble searches!

Edit: Lol, I thought I stopped short of posting the following when I saw I'd mixed up PEA, with TEA. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is the one that some are saying helps with tolerance. TEA, Tetrahydropalmatine, is the element of Corydalis, and I got some from LiftMode. they use the "L"/Levo formulation of it, and it being "left handed" enables better absorption. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmitoylethanolamide

I think it best to add this edit rather than correct what's below. This way people who already it can easily see what I got wrong.

Hey Michelle! I was looking into Corydalis (Yan Hu Suo)when I coincidentally ran into a thread about one of its constituents, THP, at another forum. Lol, I bought some of that in powder form from a well regarded source known for its good prices, and I even found a coupon, only to later see that the capsules you can buy from Amazon, from a normally very expensive brand, Life Extension, were actually a better deal. So I bought those as well.

The science is interesting, and the anecdotal claims in that thread regarding Kratom tolerance are also interesting. I'm taking so many supplements that I can't totally vouch for any, but as of today my tolerance is fine.

I think it was started by the same Theanine who sometimes posted here.

I laugh at how Life Extension cleverly decided to avoid the "scary sounding" chemical name of the active ingredient and went with "ComfortMAX" instead. :)

They market this as having included both AM, and PM, tablets, with the PM/evening tablets also having some Magnolia Bark Extract. As if that was just for bedtime, lol. ;)

Please see the edit to the post I made above. This is just to show that there's been an update to the thread.
