Thank you for your reply. I'm still very weak and tired, but I am better than I would have expected considering the shape I was in Saturday evening. I tend to think it's mostly some kind of artificial boost from the steroids like you're saying, but that's fine, I'll take what I can get, lol.

I don’t have any experience with this ... but very interested and want to hear what others with some medical knowledge can shed light on...

Perhaps( my intuition) it’s the steroids... I don’t know the mechanism of how or why ... def boosted some functions in your body ( that’s what they do right ?)

Sorry you had to go to the hospital.... your feeling better now ??

Hi folks! I've posted a bit in the past on the forum, but for the most part I just lurk here and try to absorb all the wonderful information that you all share, but I had an experience this week that has left me with some questions and I wanted to see if any of you had any thoughts about this.

I'm an everyday kratom user. I take it for chronic shoulder pain that became an issue for me after I broke my humerus and my collar bone a couple of years ago. I started out small like everyone I guess, but over the last couple of years my intake has increased. I don't measure my doses, but just calculating by how much I generally use in the course of a week I would say I take 16 to 18 grams a day broken up into 3 different doses, so 6 grams 3 times a day I guess. I have taken short breaks in the past and found them less than comfortable, with problems that included flu-like symptoms, restless legs, insomnia and of course the inevitable return of the pain that I take the kratom for in the first place.

This past Saturday afternoon I ended up in the ER because I couldn't breathe. Turns out I had the flu and pneumonia. I had to be admitted to the hospital so they could give me IV antibiotics. I was in the hospital until Wednesday afternoon, so 4 days. I was really worried that kratom withdrawal would just make things even more miserable for me while I was there, but I woke up the morning after I was admitted feeling surprisingly OK, even rested, and I'm just wondering why there were no withdrawal symptoms.

I had one dose of cough syrup with codeine the first night I was there, but that was a one time thing. Other than that I was getting the IV antibiotics, tamiflu, some pretty hefty doses of steroids and frequent breathing treatments with albuterol. So, was it the steroids that saved me from the withdrawal? I'm home now, and still on a kratom break. My doctor is tapering me off of the steroids (I was told that was necessary) but I'm still not having any withdrawal symptoms. I'm not even having any of the shoulder pain that would normally make me want to take kratom, which is amazing to me.

I avoid doctors and prescriptions as much as possible, so my knowledge of all this stuff is limited and it's not something I'm comfortable talking to my doctor about. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this? Thanks for reading.
