I was channel surfing, and Laura Ingraham, a Fox news commentator with her own show, was hammering away, along with her guests, at the problems of homelessness, tent cities, drug abuse, mental illness, how they were connected, and how they were leading to a big deterioration in city life, and creating a condition wherein disease outbreaks are more likely to occur.

She was really hammering away at the opioid crisis and the rise of addiction, and the number of addicts, and I don't know whether to be angry or grateful for small mercies at what I heard her say as an aside in regards the drug epidemic.

She mentioned the rise in prominence of a "new drug, starts with a K, whose name I won't try to pronounce" (words to that effect anyway) as another piece of data showing how serious the drug problem is.

She's a very smart and informed person, so politics aside I hope she was actually not mentioning Kratom by name because she knows it's not a substance that causes a drug abuse epidemic, but is rather one with legitimate uses, albeit some people overuse it.

Yadda, yadda, yadda, I see this as a further indication of why the Kratom community needs to have its ducks in a row. Kratom is a net benefit to society as a whole, and a yooge boon to millions of individuals.

We have to be ready to fire back if some demagogue decides to demonize Kratom so as to score some easy points.

Heck, aspirin and Tylenol alone might already have done far more damage to people's bodies than Kratom will ever do.

That's if they even do the exam, many towns just farm it out to some company that really couldn't give a damn about what they write on the report as long as they get payed. There's also the possibility that the " medical examiner" was instructed to write down accidental overdose on a legal substance so the family would get life ins. and pension benefits.

Just watched a special on that subject, amazing how sketchy the whole thing is. You think it's CSI, in reality there's so little oversite... Pretty much any of us could be a coroner.

That's a good point about the family possibly getting "life ins. and pension benefits." A nice thing done for them but not for the cause of kratom.

Anyway, I did the calculations, hopefully correctly. 3500ng/ml = 3.5mg/liter. With 5.5 liters max in the body he would have had 19.25mg of mitragynine in his system that the coroner is saying wasI enough to be an overdose.
If 1 gram of some excellent kratom contains 2.2% mitragynine then that would be 22mg which is a little more than the 19.25mg found in the body of the policeman.

I must be figuring this out wrong because it seems like the corner is saying that the man overdosed on about a gram of powdered kratom?

The only "toxic" level I have read about was found by a coroner in the body of a small town police sgt who the coroner said died only from and overdose of mitragynine. His report stated that there was 3,500 ng/mL of mitragynine in his system and no other substances.

I don't know how to relate that level to what gram dose a person would have to take to get to that level.
Anyone know how to figure that out?

I just did a search again about this and came across the following from the person who gave the pathological report to the coroner.

www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/opinion/guest-co...ly-blamed-re-kratom/

As far as I know this is the only death, blamed as being caused by kratom only, that hasn't been debunked as actually being caused by a combination of substances or just poor reporting of the actual causes.

There was a reporter that tried to get the actual coroner's report but was unable to because he would need a court order to force the parents to release it.

I think it is a very sad situation for the family and they are stuck in the middle of the issue and likely just want to do what is right based on the knowledge they have.

I am very curious what is considered a toxic level of kratom/Mitragynine. Again, it would appear that the wool is being pulled over our eyes. If we ask questions, then we are the crazy ones.

Here's a story about some of the companies we're talking about who (allegedly :) ) bribe some of the other agencies we talk about.

www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/05/11/us-states-accuse-teva-...ver-1000percent.html

Wonder how much it will cost them to buy their way out of this one ? . Pretty much a given that the people actually getting screwed will recoup nothing.

What we need so badly is education on responsible use and healthy relationships of any substances one chooses to take, as we probably have found out by now , people will take things either way , best to create a resource for these matters so people don’t have to learn the hard way , though I’m sure many will still need to land on their face to figure it out , hard to lead the horse to water, but when they are thirsty they will drink ...

We need more of a health approach and harm reduction , it’s human nature to take substances to alter consciousness, we’ve been doing so since our ape ancestors first climbed down from the trees and ate strange growths growing out of cow patties, we’ve never been the same since!!!

You still have my vote Robbie (L)

You know how when Hunter S Thompson ran for sherrif in Colorado.. his posters and mascot was a hand over a peyote button... I believe .... well yours could be a kratom leaf between two hands giving a blessing !! Just a thought!!
