When you’re first taking Kratom, you want to start with the lowest recommended amount for the particular form of Kratom that you are trying. Even if others are telling you that you will need to take more to have an effect, you don’t want to start off higher than you are prepared for.

If you start with a higher amount, there’s an increased chance that you’ll have more negative side effects.

You never know how your body is going to react to plant alkaloids like those in Kratom compared to someone else’s body. Depending on your diet, how you take the Kratom, and what variety you use, you might have a totally different reaction.

For that reason, you should always start with a small serving and then gradually increase the amount that you take as needed. As you gain experience with Kratom, you will be able to discern how much you want to be taking.

Here’s what I recommend:

• Start with half of the recommended serving
• Take this for a few days before you try anything else
• Gradually increase the amount
Don’t feel like you need to rush and take as much Kratom as you can the first time around. Doing this will only sour your overall experience with Kratom; gradually increasing your serving size as you gain experience is a much better option.

#2: Less Is Usually More
Another interesting thing to note about the way that Kratom interacts with your body is that the response between your body and Kratom is a bell curve.

What does this mean?

This means that taking less usually has a stronger response. If you take a very large amount of Kratom, the effect is weaker. In very small amounts, the effect isn’t apparent either. Instead, a mid-range serving is going to be most effective.

When you take a lot of Kratom in an attempt to amplify the effects that your body feels, you might actually just cause yourself to have negative side effects rather than benefits.

#3: Change It Up!
Once you’ve tried Kratom a few times, you might be happy with the results. You also might not be happy with them, but the thing that you need to remember is that there are a lot of different ways to enjoy Kratom. And there are many different types of Kratom out there that you can try. The only limitation to what you can experience is your creativity.

Don’t be bland; try changing it up!

Different Strains
The first thing that you’ll probably experiment with is strains of Kratom. There are many different strains.

From red vein to white vein, and blends of them both, each type of Kratom has different characteristics. After you try your first type of Kratom, order some samples of other types of Kratom and see how they can differ.

There are several differences among varieties, including duration, taste, and color.

For some consumers, they won’t have a strong preference for different types of Kratom and instead will be happy to use them all. Others will keep to one or two different varieties all the time. In the end, the choice is yours.

Different Preparation Methods
In addition to there being different types of Kratom that you can try, you can also try different forms of Kratom and preparation methods.

Kratom is available in many different forms:

• Loose leaf
• Powder
• Capsules
• Tablets
• Liquid extract
• Gum
Each of these methods has its own specific pros and cons. While taking things like tablets, capsules, and gum are most convenient, teas and powder preparations give you the most flexibility in how you can adjust the flavor and serving size to suit your own personal needs.

Most people start with capsules or with loose leaf tea because they are the most popular preparation methods. While you can buy pre-made capsules, you can also purchase capsules and powder in bulk so that you can make them yourself. When you make the capsules yourself, you’ll be able to save money and make the exact serving size that you want them to be.

Thank you! I got my red vein powder in the mail today. I started with about 1/2 tsp directly on my tongue {yuck} at 11a. My back had been bothering me a little bit and I just wanted to take a pill honestly. After my first done, the craving/thought went away. About an hour ago the pain was like a hot dagger, I took another dose, same amount. The pains improved a little, but not much. Do you have any idea what the "half life" is of K? How long between doses? When will it be ineffective to take more and when to take my meds for pain? Does it get in your system and reach a point where it levels out?
I appreciate your taking the time for all these questions, really I do.

Toss and wash the hard way. Dry powder directly on the tongue- That's what
I thought. This method you should take a sip of water in your mouth then add the powder then wash it down with more water. I measure out my kratom in a glass stir in water and drink it that way but I am not shy drinking gritty bitter water sludge. It can be added to any of your favorite liquids. You could try capsules or oblate discs which is called parachuting.

Dosing. 1/2 teaspoon is about 1 gram. This seems low to treat pain if you currently switching off prescription pain medicines you will soon realize this dose is much too low.

I use Kratom for spinal arthritis my dose is 2.4 grams for Red veins(I use a scale to dose) This dose I can get 5 - 6 hours of pain relief. This is my dose everyone will be different.

I am going to find a link to a recent topic that discusses dosing and alternating pain meds better than I can explain right now.

Be back soon hopefully others will chime in too.

I love mixing my dose in OJ or GFJ.... tastes great !!!
I also think that is a small quantity to help with pain...
Now that you’ve taken a respectably small dose, perhaps taking 2tsp next time around ... I always try to wait at least 4 hrs between my doses... sometimes 5-6 hrs.. all depends on type of Kratom and state of body and mind ..

Stay hydrated, take notes about the ones that sing good to you ... also trying different kinds , I personally love greens!!

It’s a full on experimental adventure that’s worth every bit of the work involved ... when you find the strains and the amount that’s just right for you ... the difference is huge!!

Madmax and Nan have great advice , soak that in and see what works for you !!!

Happy Kratom trails!! (L)

untangled web,'

im glad you got it and you are using it! im with nan I dilute it in liquid, did my dose for the morning in a strawberry peach juice that kind of thing. it works amazing in a good apple juice or even chocolate milk.

everyone responds differently. but I agree with the others, take a bit more and after say maybe 3 hours take a small dose to keep the pain at bay. my doses are a bit higher but I do my 2nd dose at work at about the 4-5 hr mark before my am dose 'wears off'. once the pain sets in its a lot harder to get it to leave. but with the help of maybe akuamma, incarviella, or skullcap it makes it possible sometimes.

you will learn the 'flow' of your body and what works for you. mix up vendors, types, and even try blended varieties. but its best to find which 'regular' strains work for you. but then again green mang da was my first dose ever, and will still be a fave of mine. I like all mang das. gold and yellow are my go to's right now.

please don't be afraid to ask! if im like the others in this nucking futs group, we are happy to have so many 'new to the forum' people. that means more people are trying it. even young people. which makes word spread faster. which is good for ALL of us. we are all on this herbal journey together. im proud to be a lifer.

The question of kratom’s half life is a bit more complex than one might think. The reason for this is the large amounts of enzymatic and brain interplay between several alkaloids, which all have quite varied half-lives.

Because of the differences among alkaloid half lives, the duration of kratom can very quite dramatically from strain strain to strain and from plant to plant. For this reason, I will analyze both the half-lives of the prominent alkaloids as well as the kratom duration differences between strains to give you a better idea of what to expect from each strain.

Alkaloid Half-Lives
Although there are 24 identified alkaloids in kratom, as well as many still to be identified, only two of these alkaloids do we have a decent understanding of their half lives. Luckily, these two alkaloids to a large portion of the heavy lifting when it comes to the effects of kratom. These two alkaloids are 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine. However, because of the slower digestion of plant material, note that kratom half-life alkaloids do not completely describe the duration of its effects.

Mitragynine
Mitragynine is the most prominent alkaloid found in kratom, and is thought to be responsible for a large portion of kratom’s stimulating effects, as well as some painkilling effects. The standard half life of mitragynine is 23.24 ± 16.07 hrs, depending upon the individuals natural levels of enzymes and other factors. This means that on average 23.24 hours from the moment of absorption, half of the alkaloid is still in one’s body.

7-hydroxymitragynine
This alkaloid is by far the most potent painkilling alkaloid found in kratom, despite being only available in minute quantities within the leaf. Interestingly, despite similar structure to mitragynine, has quite a bit shorter duration. While the research has varied, it seems to point to an average half life of 2.5 ± .7 hrs. The shorter half-life of this alkaloid describes why some of those who suffer from pain prefer smaller doses more frequently throughout the day, to maintain a constant level of 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Duration by Strain
As you may have noticed, different strains can provide radically different durations of effect. The reasons for this vary, but the primary reasons are:

Alkaloid profile
Leaf grind density
Leaf cell wall density
All three of these contribute to kratom duration, however, for this comparison between vein types and duration, it is assumed that the grind density is the same.

Red Vein
Red vein kratom is by far the most commonly purchased variety because of its pronounced painkilling and mood boosting effects. As far as kratom duration, red vein strains last fairly long — typically around 4.5 to 6 hours with an average grind. Because of the long duration and high 7-hydroxymitragynine content, it is the most commonly used by those looking for substantial pain relief.

Green Vein
Green vein strains are quite interesting, and can be the longest lasting variety of kratom. There are a few suspected reasons for this: cell wall density (which many green malaysian strains are a prime example of), and high mitragynine content. However, they may be more be other factors that contribute to its long duration. While not every green vein is extremely long lasting, some can last an impressive 8 hours.

White Vein
White vein strains, while quite energizing, are one of the shortest lasting strains — typically only around a four hour duration. It is important to note, however, that some rare white vein strains can last quite a bit longer. Like the green vein, I am not entirely sure why this kratom duration is as different as it is.

Kratom half-life and duration are very tricky concepts, especially due to the lack of research available on these topics.

How long between the Doses will depend on your Tolerance. If your Tolerance is Low then you should get around 3 - 4 hours of good pain relief. I would say after taking about the 3rd dose during a 24 hour Period then your next doses will be weaker than your first 3. Take your Pain Meds whenever you think you really need them. I can't say about that one.

Also learned something about Kratom. Not only the plant strain but the drying time dictates the effect of that strain. I've noticed the darker the leaf usually the longer the drying process.
My body will not give me desired results with regular dry times on red strains. The fermented red strains is what benefits me. Took me a while to figure that one out. Always look for fermented red strains and try it out, if it works for you try a different fermented strain from another source and see how it goes. If it works then fermented is the way to go. Also noticed the longer the drying process the less bitter that leaf will taste.
Also the smell is important. A grassy, cucumber type scent is a good sign when opening a new bag. Usually with the green and white strains, not so much the fermented...
This is just my thoughts, may be for you as well but don't quote me...lol.

I think my new name for toss and wash is quick and dirty, lol. Jeezus its awful! I didn't take a sip of water first though (rookie mistake). I didn't take my first dose until 30 min ago. I woke up with a migraine and needed imitrex. No way my stomach K as well. My back started spasming while I was grocery shopping, so I did a full tsp. I'm on a heating pad, but no pain meds ;)
Thank you for finding the links. I appreciate it
