I’ll second that mberk,

Babel is the beezneez!! As well as Michele , between the two of them they cover a lot of ground with other botanicals , we’re very lucky to have them share with us .

Babel -

Def agree with the micronized being just as good as a good extract , I’m going to place a order from Kalm with Kava soon, will be my second order , will let you know what I get . Probably the pouni ono for day time , and borugu for evening ... very good !

Thanks so much for the information. I’ve been using Kratom for 5 years but many of these other botanicals, roots, seeds, barks, etc, are completely new to me. It’s great to have such knowledgeable folks on this forum. Very much appreciated and invaluable.

Imo, if that instant Kava is micronized then it can work as good as extract, you just have to take twice as much. The pertinent variable to that being the case is the ability of the person taking it to assimilate it, and the amount of effect that's sought after.

If you're really into Kava and treat taking it as special, maybe even a bit of a ceremony like a cocktail hour, then you'll likely allow for your stomach to be empty enough to get the best effect. And you'll take something with good oils/fats along with it to help assimilation.

Afaik a top quality micronized instant Kava can have close to half the kavalactones of a common extract powder. And it will be full spectrum, whereas IIRC that's not guaranteed with an extract. When I first bought a sizeable amount of Kava powder, I paid top dollar for a high quality, Vanuatu sourced, micronized one. It was strong enough that I could get some of the numbing effect in my mouth if I didn't swallow it right away.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanuatu#Economy

The seller had this to say.

The Highest Kavalactone level for Natural Dried Kava roots is between 8 to 15% and all things vary in nature (so no such thing as standardized). Standardized means that this is a chemically processed Kava EXTRACT where there are many CONCENTRATIONS like 30% and Much, Much More Greater. Better Living Products ZetaWize BRAND is made from Aged PURE KAVA Roots with No Additives. It is Not an Extract but rather finely milled root powder which is closer to what most of the traditional folks drink throughout the South Pacific. The only similarity is that Extracts start with kava but distill or concentrate it via different chemical processes to yield these higher percentages you refer to.

Btw, I checked, it's no longer sold on Amazon, and the price has more than doubled since 2012, which is when I bought it.

Nature's Answer sells a full spectrum extract, and while it's not a ripoff, you pay a premium for the work they do to guarantee that, their encapsulation, and the overhead of their being a well known name brand. Lol, they're located just a few miles from me, one of several major supplement manufacturers who benefit from the location in a commercial near a major highway, and right next door to a decent sized airport.

Nature’s Answer Kava-6 delivers 100 mg of Kavalactones per serving, and each serving contains 6 important Kavalactones.

Like with Kratom, Kava aficionados prefer certain batches/sources over others, due to the differences in the Kavalactone profiles.

yadda, yadda, yadda, a good micronized Kava powder from a priced to sell no frills online vendor can be a real bargain by comparison to the pricey extracts.

hey mberk

happy to help. ive tried even pdos premium kava. and i relly enjoyed kratom eyes 30% but honestly i swear by re-leafs instant. its not an extract, but to me feels just as strong. i take 1 teaspoon and im down for the count and no mind spinning.

another great one is skullcap. insense has a great form of that as well. helps me sleep and has a variety of health benefits.

im sorry about meridian. i usually do recommend them as well, just had great luck with bang/ buck if im willing to wait. but thats not proper character for any approved vendors here. maybe look into herb stomp or other herbal approved companies. we have so many now!

I haven’t had much sedation from corydalis at 3.5-4 gm dose amount ... but I hear for many it helps in the evening ... love Chuchuhuasi, just received 4 oz from InSense, great daytime in between kratom material ..

There’s some great kava from Kalm with Kava, I like their micronized options ... and some can be very relaxing sedating ... the term “krunk” is a real thing lol, heavy eyed and full body relaxation.... combine with some magnolia.. warm blanket nighty night .

I haven’t been on a vacation for a week before , and I must say .. very medicinal!

Very interesting. Yes, I believe they do work best in tandem. They bind to GABA receptors to relieve stress promoting relaxation. Regulates the sleep cycle as well. In addition, the binding to the CB2 has benefits as well. I’m still learning but it’s a very interesting tree Bark. My only other experience with tree Bark is Chuchuhuasi from Ecuador. It’s a great pain reliever and seems to work best for lower back pain. I’m not sure it can target that area specifically as that’s not how analgesics work. But it does somehow relieve my lower back pain. On high pain days I’ll add half a tsp with my Kratom several times a day. I do have experience with Cordyalis. That’s hit or miss with me. It tends to work better as an analgesic for me as opposed to a sleep aid. But it’s definitely a botanical I like to have on hand from time to time.

Oh, insomnia, you might want Corydalis. Several of us use the powdered extract from In Sense.

Good question. I see that Lift Mode apparently standardizes with Honokiol in mind.

smile.amazon.com/LiftMode-Magnolia-Bark-Extract-Powder/dp/B073FZFR4X

liftmode.com/honokiol-5g-99.html

Given how their customers think (and I'm one, lol), I'm guess that they're doing so in order to deliver the most oomph. Though that's not always a given, as they offer both the less inexpensive, and the more expensive, extracted constituents from Skullcap (Baicalin and Baicalein). Speaking of Skullcap, if/when In Sense gets more of it I'll be reordering from them.

And there's this.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honokiol#GABAA_modulation

vs. this.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolol

But I get the sense that they work better in tandem.

I don't understand that page, but it seems to indicate that they both have a relaxing effect.

I’m new to Magnolia Bark. I struggle with insomnia occasionally and have heard from many people that it’s very helpful in getting a good nights sleep. I’m also interested in it’s antioxidant benefits, anti-bacterial, improves lung function, plus its binding to the CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system similar to CBD/Cannabis. It really seems to have many benefits. I might wait for Shaun to return and grab some from him. Thanks for the info. Welcome back. I could really use a vacation myself. Lol. Be well.

Hey mberk,

Yeah , 3 weeks is quite a wait !! I’ve never ordered from meridian but understand that they aren’t very fast with delivery... but many folks love their products . Bummed that hasn’t gotten to your mail box yet .

I’m a big fan of Benni and PDO as well, both very awesome companies,

Babel got me excited about the magnolia bark extract some time ago , and placed a order through Samsara, I enjoyed their product .

Also , Still have some magnolia from Shaun at Fused Flora , great price for great quality .

Hope everyone is doing well, just got home from a week long hotspring vacation... I didn’t want to leave lol, but happy to be back !

Take care
