A quick disclosure: As an appreciative customer of both InSense and Gold Leaf I thought it would be OK to ask for a sample of Gold Leaf's Green Riau, as I thought it sounded extra interesting, very relevant to me and my situation, and I wanted to do a review of how it worked for me. After an exchange of some personal messages talking about that, I was gratified to read that they would send me some.

Introduction: Green Riau, which afaik is pretty much a legitimately distinctive strain, had piqued my interest in the past but I was never quite left with an urgent sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) regarding it. Lol, and part of the reason why is because the reviews of this advertised as mellow strain were written in mellow tone that reflected their rating of it.

Back then I was looking at several, new to me, vendors with their several varieties, so I was easily drawn away from seriously considering trying it. And back then I was also more about buying only in bulk, and of varieties that were no-brainers in regards quality and potency. Ah, how times change, and I learned that I could slow down, and take the time to see about being a bit of a connoisseur with Tea, at least so far in what I wanted for myself. Being a "Kratom User Whisper" and knowing what varieties and blends might work for other people is a whole other ball game. I've just been trying to be a good chooser for my needs and wants.

Lately this has involved buying more samples, and not concentrating as much on price per gram, or the potency of Kratom's two mail alkaloids. InSense/Gold Leaf have one of best deals around on sample sizes, and they just made it better with their offer of five packs as well as three packs. Using that offer, multiple times, is an excellent way to get a better idea of how different alkaloid profiles can change the way we respond to a serving of Tea.

Earlier, I wrote the following, which I changed only very slightly after pasting it here.

It being a wild, and having received what I'm sensing was a mild drying process, seems to give this a pretty unique profile of alkaloid amounts. I have to wonder if this is a preferred strain of the locals. We know what most of the very demanding buying public wants, and often legitimately needs, so I guess the growers and suppliers have to cater to that.

They want lots of pain relief, and an all natural energy boost, and the more of that the better. Some strains can provide either of those, or even both of those, and still provide that something extra that you get from the broad profile of Kratom alkaloids.

This wild grown Green Riau seems likely to have been carefully harvested, and dried, with an eye to maintaining the full spectrum of benefits that this local strain is appreciated for having.

I'm guessing the plantation grown is an excellent compromise that offers a bit more energy, and a bit more pain relief. I'm now on the day after of my first day of using this wild grown Green Riau and there's no sense of having a come down that I might get from a strong White or Red, or even the less extreme feeling of "I wouldn't mind a cup of my Kratom coffee" that a very nice Green might leave me with on the day following using it the night before.

Though I have to allow that my tolerance has been good lately, and I took a day of just using a little bit of stem and vein and Hirsuta before starting with this Green Riau from Gold leaf.

Spoiler alert, it's a connoisseur strain for those who aren't looking for a blunt instrument to boosting mood. More subtle than even my favorite mellow strains, but extremely effective at what it does. For some people it could be an answer to stagnant strain syndrome. Excepting those who need pain relief for bad backs and such, regrettably this isn't a universal panacea.

Since writing the above I've come to gain a more informed impression of the Gold Leaf Botanicals Green Riau. I was working at coming up with a useful analogy of how I find it to be a somewhat unique experience. The best I've come up with is to say I see this Green Riau as nearly being a variant of the Mitragyna family, less different than Mitragyna diversifolia (Javanica), but still almost to be considered distinct.

But my analogy immediately failed, unsurprisingly, as it has its fair share of Kratom's two main alkaloids. It's how its lesser known ones set it apart in its effects that remind me of Hirsuta, which I have, and what I've read about Javanica, which I ordered and is on the way.

The balance of those other alkaloids has helped restore to me the sort of carefree good chair that I associate with a much younger version of myself. Lol, probably a mistaken memory, with nostalgia giving it extra vibrancy, and a near mystical glow, but a memory none the less.

Like Darth Vader when he can feel the presence of the Force, after many years of missing it, but in a non-evil way! lol :)

Yeah Darth, we call it Green Riau, and it's for everybody, including us non-Jedi. :)

I can imagine the reaction of younger readers to my referencing a movie from 1977.

I'll continue this in my post below, hopefully before too long.

I ran out of edits for the above. Lol, "good chair" should be "good cheer", and I misspelled "Botanicals" in the title by using the possessive form of "Botanical".

Good excuse for a cup of hot beverage from the Rubiaceae family. :) (coffee)

Hey Babel-17, great review! I Haven’t had the pleasure to order from Gold leaf or Insense YET! The latest sale almost had me, it was a great opportunity for me to make purchases w/ the additional discount. I think it’s great that they added a 5 ounce sampler. I’ve always been one to order smaller amounts of a wide variety of strains! Unfortunately, I missed out again this time ordering during a sale. I must’nt make that mistake again!!!

I’ve had green Riau from another vendor & I loved it. I found it to be a moderate green w/ A fair amount of pain relief, mood boost and slight energy. It Had some subtle background feeling to it that I just can’t put my finger on but I would definitely order it again. It was actually on my list to order from Gold leaf. I guess I got overwhelmed at all the choices. I should’ve talked to Rob to get his recommendations but it was quite late.

Luv the pic of the business along w/ the YouTube videos. I am not text savvy and I don’t know how to upload pictures, not even for my avatar. Oh well, maybe I’ll figure it out eventually.

I found that if I download any pictures I want to use, then use a utility to get them under 100 KB in size if needed, I can use the "Attachments" option when I compose my reply. But only regular replies, I don't see that option if using quick reply. I click on "Attachments", then "Add Files", and I navigate to where the picture is.

Anyway, ILKFORME15% is afaik always good for Kratom at both InSense and Gold Leaf. The sale we just saw was 15% off for everything, except scales and something else. So I guess even their skullcap could have been had at a discount.

But the five pack of sample sizes is such a good promotion that it, and the three pack, are afaik never available with a coupon, so you didn't miss out on anything.

This reminded me that I moved Green Riau out of my rotation for stagnate strain reasons only. My kratom taking method is rotating favorite strains completely every month or two and pulling from my Z.A.P.S stash.
I know Don and I have been cheer leaders for this strain. I have the wild version and I brought it back and its set up and ready for my work day dose tomorrow. I will post a fresh review soon. I pretty sure it was good for my type of pain management(spinal arthritis) and the mental stress, my stash is almost depleted, I will spill the beans tomorrow how well it holds up.

Thanks for the review

Babel, thanx for clarifying where the pic came from. I thought it was a “Real” business, lol. I didn’t realize it came from a SyFy show.

I have Hirsuta & for me it feels the same as kratom w/ a lil less potency. I’m planning on ordering Javanica. How different is that from Hirsuta and kratom?

Also thanks for reminding me of the 15% off discount code from Gold Leaf/Insense. I was interested in getting other botanicals so that made the last sale even better.

Ok I have to ask...... if I edit my post’s often do you guys see that, lol?

Hey NAN!!!, >:D >:D
Hugs from Liz and I.
We've missed you but haven't stopped praying for you and your family to find peace and healing from all you have been through. :x :x
How have you all been? If you don't want to share openly then I am always a good listener via PM. :cheer:

Great post Babel. :-bd
It has me wanting to sample the wild since I have only tried the Organic/Plantation. :-? (Oh no FOMO :woohoo: )

I looked back through my early posts when I first started taking kratom and I had tried a sample of Green Riau. I came across this comment I made back then in April 2019. "It makes me feel like I would think normal should be for me." :cheer:

I recently got some Green, Red, Gold, and White Riau from Fused Flora and the Green is not the same as what I have from Insense. :(
It does have mood lift, headache reduction, and general pain relief but not the clarity and feeling of being "normal" that I get from the Insense Green Riau. Maybe the FF is wild and that is the difference.
I'm still experimenting with the red, gold, and white to see how they work. I had gone back to FF because I wanted some more of the Red Tamiang and saw the Riaus then.
My Grandkids say I’m a cuckoo head. ;)

Green Riau from goldleafbotanicals.net/

The balance of those other alkaloids has helped restore to me the sort of carefree good chair that I associate with a much younger version of myself.

Green Riau is reviewed by Babel- a sense of feeling carefree & good cheer, Tigger- Headache relief and mental clarity.

My review- I had it out of rotation for a while so I felt how strong it initially clears the troubled waters. It settled in as feeling motivation and a sense of gumption. To further clarify the definition of gumption - shrewd or spirited initiative and resourcefulness. If someone gets in your way you will set them straight. This aggressiveness is easily handled because of the mental clarity, its kind of a confidence booster. The energy from this green is very clean nothing overbearing or jittery I can see Green Riau going well for a focused workout. It is good for pain management if you are treating chronic pain like mine which builds during the day so it holds the pain off but I can see also where is would fall short to stop an active painful situation. Red strains work better for that anyway in most cases. I found the duration of pain relief slightly less than some of my other strains but I managed very well through the work day I am sitting here now and I am comfortable with the amount of aches I am experiencing, this is 6 hours later.
In short Green Riau is a great workday strain for mental clarity, motivation, and confidence, and moderate pain relief. I feel both the wild and plantation will hit all these notes.

Tiggermanscat, Somethingscared, and Babels. I missed posted with you all.

I am doing well. I was sick for the last month and I am still recovering. Stress will run you down and ruin your immune system. I am working on recovery.
